Temps were finally cooler today, so I decided to go for a cruise in the dart with some good rock.
Nice day for a drive.

This car had a worn out but running motor. Thanks to Mike for the small block out of his 71 Dart when he swapped over to big block.
Fan Shrouds Are Everywhere If You Look.

We were getting ready to go on a hot drive where the temps were supposed to be 97 degrees, so I decided I better throw together a fan shroud to assist with the clutch type mechanical fan. The radiator is a 26 inch factory style replacement since we live in AZ. I started with the bottom 4 inches of the metal tub, sliced and flared the edges out. Then I built an aluminum frame with 1/8 x 1/2 inch...
Tire Shop Fail

This is an all original 389 four speed car, one owner bought new in 1965. We just got this car road worthy again after sitting in storage for a couple of decades. The owner took it in and had new tires put on, and whoever did the wheels didn’t apparently know that these aluminum wheels require two washers on each nut. The owner could have had a really bad day due to this one little detail.

Took a drive with a few of our local Mopar group to a small town called Wickenburg here in Arizona. Wickenburg is about 65 miles from where I live, yet the drive time is one and a halve hours. There is a ton of open space out there between small settlement type areas, with a store or gas being far and few along the drive.

This actually took months overall with the design, building and installation of all the parts. Mike spent the winter months in his garage redoing the entire drivetrain, suspension and steering of this car. Until this project started, the car was a 318/904 car with a Gear Vendors Overdrive.

Classic Mopar Electronic Distributor Explained
Mopar mike what wheel size and tire are you running on the truck?
What oil pan did u use?
Been there done that but in a rental Durango....;/
Very helpful video. Thank you.
How do you remove the rotor?
Beautiful car! Nice cruise!👍
I love that car!
You're telling me the factories who made certain models of distributors screwed up the rotor phasing so bad that you have to modify the position of the breaker plate/pick-up to correct it? Or get an adjustable rotor, an adjustable cap, an adjustable breaker plate or pickup, or install a crank trigger. I'm thinking this doesn't apply to 99% of classic car people...but cool modification if it really was necessary...btw people, without one of those parts I mentioned THERE IS NO ADJUSTING ROTOR PHASING, just had to be clear.
😊👍
Nice work - so you used a 1972 kit? What aluminum rad are you using?
Yes, a 72 kit. Radiator I don’t remember who I got that from, but it wasn’t one of the 700 dollar ones.
Thanks. I need to flush a GM 5.7. Changed a freeze plug and could feel about 2 inches of rust in the bottom of the block. What is the best way to flush that? I think it was from the failed Dexcool stuff that had to be taken off the market due to rusting engine blocks.
Nice!
It's not a cold start when your in Arizona.
Hey man, nice song and GREAT cars!!!
Nice...no GREAT view and sound Greg! Love the sound and the twisties!
What kit do you recommend to delete leanburn on a1978 Chrysler with 400 engine?
Nice installation! Great tips on the installation! Looks great too!👍
Thank you
buenas noches que numero de neumaticos traera esa camioneta
Question-Pregunta? Alguien que sepa, porque tiene esta version doble toma de gasolina?
Hay John I have a 318 mag and I can't get any fire from the distributer I have replased rotor cap and caol what is it
Good stuff Greg!
Thanks!
Cool new life!👍
I challenge you to disable your vac adv & shine the light in the drilled hole in the cap & rev the eng & you will find that phasing does not change. Also move your initial & you also will find that phasing does not change. Only vac adv changes phasing. excellent idea to slot the mounting plate holes on the side of the dist which again will only change the phasing range that vac adv adds. not sure if the vac adv mounting would need to be changed slightly to accomodate this but I am going to do it as I run vac adv. Some mounting plates have a roll pin locator in the housing wall which would need to be removed. on a side not Echlin has a rotor with a longer (.060" iirc) blade which will reduce the gap & help with phasing issues. Hi, Greg, Thanks for the vid. I found out why I had an occasional tick at idle. I measured the gap w my brass feeler .008" and half were in spec, the rest at .010. I tried to set the closest to .008. My technique not so good. Starting the engine, i heard loud ticking!! Popped the cap and noticed the center shaft has play. I only have a few thousand miles on this Mopar model - new when I bought it. I went and reset the closest to .010" and ticking all gone. If you read this, can u tell me if the shaft should be moving?? It's about .004" play. Thank you
@13:45. Great point! Thanks
Good job.
Most people thread the casting and use screw in jets. That way changes that are enviable to change size is much easier. Yes drill and tap should be done on a bench and blown off to avoid chips internally.
Totally rad!
I loved that distributer set up. MOPAR or no car
Thanks that helped me out a lot not a Mopar person but you explained a lot and in great detail
What can I do to lower my shift points?
Hi. If you have a mechanical rod type throttle pressure assembly you can adjust the rod shorter by turning the adjuster clockwise. That is assuming we are talking about a Mopar with a TF type transmission. Your question was lacking a bit of info on what you have. :-)
Oops yeah i was too vague. I have a 2 barrel sniper with a Lokar kickdown cable to my 727. It seems like no matter how tight or loose my kickdown is it shifts way too late
Do you have a return spring on your throttle pressure lever itself? It’s a must, because the lever will not back off all the way without it. It needs to be pulled all the way forward when there is zero throttle opening.
You are right!! It wasn’t going back another 1/2” so it was always ready to engage the tv right away!
@mopars4us how much travel should I have before the lever starts to make contact with the tv plunger? It is that relative based on how I want my shift points?
Another Arizona Car Guy!!!
love benny and the jets playing in the back that’s awesome
Good video !! All the best to you and yours Sir.
Very good trick for the gap. Thank you.
I can't here you speak up
Well said! I remember struggling with that concept several years ago.
Not all vacuum advanced cans are the same, some are adjustable, some are preset and have stoppers on the arm of it and some are Electronicly controlled with one wire.
Using the dollar bill is a good idea. The gap should be .008 but it needs to be set at full vacuum of the vacuum advance because when vacuum is applied by the motor it brings the pickup closer to the relucter.
❤ good looking out
Great job! Great tip!👍
A great setup that some people don't get right! I'm always glad to see a properly working PCV system!👍
Thanks 👍
Nice work on that.
Very helpful. Thanks
Great fix! Looks great too!👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the tip ,love the old bird owesome exhaust
Excelente Maestro 👍
GM electronic distributors are similar but terribel staff the pick up coils cant by variabel, the 4pin gm ignition module uses the mc 3334 ic chip who isnt variabel ,the e core ignition coil in my case is over complicated. The thing is that staff does not work on lowr temperatures like winter time ,they need relay to bypass some voltage ,the s/r type starter selenoid works only on points ignition ,the static created from other devices confuse those circuets so they miss fire on the original hei circuet by my its missing the zener clamping diode. Generali I need retarding mechanism for my ignition system so Im reali anoyed cant finde any usefull information how those things are magneticali or electricali phase shifted not even ic chip experts culd give my good enough answer
Thank you this helps I will look into this
Love the video for learning more about this!
