Artist AS72 VS Fender Strat VS Gibson Les Paul - Tones compared

I thought these Artist pickups sounded pretty good on their own so a comparison between pickups I know and love was in order.

Gibson Les Paul vs Yamaha Revstar

Here we have a Gibson Les Paul Standard and a Yamaha Revstar Standard. First I play clean, then dirty and then lots of gain. It’s interesting to hear the difference in the two dual humbucker guitars. #rss20 #gibsonlespaulstandard #lespaul #revstar #yamaharevstar #yamahaguitars #humbucker

Fender Jazzmaster - Made in Japan. What I like (and don’t like)
Просмотров 2399 месяцев назад
My MIJ Jazzmaster is a great guitar BUT there is a couple things that keep it sitting in the guitar rack. I gave it a basic clean, setup and sanded the gloss off the neck. After a bit of love it is a nice guitar. #fender #guitar #jazzmaster #mij #fenderjazzmaster

Just a run of the tones you can get from Fenders 57/62 pickup set. I think they are great and although they have been available for a while they still hold up well. #guitar #fender #stratocaster #mjtguitars

I love both of those guitars! But the filtertrons or fidelitrons that are in the Cabronita suit the situation a little better. Nice jam, nice playing!
Yeah I agree. Those are TV Jones filtertrons in the Cabronita
@@johnfalzon I thought they were the fidelitrons in mine were muddy those were much cleaner and brighter
Great demo - thanks. I really can’t see much to redeem the Revstar’s positions 2 and 4 - and I thought they *had* to be good - I love P90s!
Thanks! I agree with you. I think 2 and 4 kind of make up for not having two volume knobs like in a Les Paul. So using them along with the tone knob you can kind of get those middle switch blended tones. But yes P90’s are unbelievably good
@@johnfalzon I think the idea was brilliant but they didn’t get the right tones.
@@dandjurdjevicplus1 yeah for sure
👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
Im impressed.. it holds its own. the LP is maybe slightly niver but there not much in it. and the SCs (I thought) sounded a bit fuller than the fender. Can't wait !!!
Yeah it really is impressive. Try to play one if you get a chance
I just took the plunge today.. a month to wait.. so excited !
Ahh!! Good job! I’ve had mine about a month now and it’s still the first guitar I pickup
P90 is better
👍🏼
Thanks so much doing the comparison video, John. I've pre-ordered the Artist AS72 and was thinking that I would need to replace the pickups to something better. But they sound great!
Thanks for the comment. I had the same thought when I preordered this one but I honestly really like them. The whole guitar is great
Is that The Living End signed poster behind you?! Love them and that album!
Yes it is! That poster came with the 25th anniversary edition vinyl of that album. It is truly a masterpiece!
I couldn’t hear a clear difference between the LP and Artist! Strat was different but both single coils sounded good!
Same. I was impressed with how much it sounded like the LP.
I could hear the difference between the Artist and the Strat. The Strat did sound good. However, I preferred the Artist’s tone. In any event, I doubt anyone would notice a difference in the context of a mix. Indeed, most people wouldn’t even spot the difference with the Gibson LP in a mix! Great playing btw, and great video.
I hear it exactly the same as you. Thanks!
Sounds great!
It sure does
👍🏻👍🏻
👍🏼
You should loosen the claw for the tremolo as well, it,should,be the first place to look vs removing parts.
I’ll try next time
Nice! Does or did it have a sticker on the back of the headstock that says QC passed HANK? Because my Artist Les Paul has and it's flawless and was very well setup!
It sure does! I also have an Artist 3/4 guitar that has the same sticker. Hank knows his stuff
Unreal enjoy!
I’ve been buying and using Artist guitars for a long time I now own 17 of them and every one is amazing but I think the favourite has to be the TC 92 the rolled neck bullbucker pickups locking tuners and loads more Spec you got to try one to believe how good these are
17! That’s impressive. The TC92 is on the list actually. That may be my next guitar
I used to own a Pink Paisley Strat with a maple board best guitar I ever played, had to sell it because of cash flow when I was younger regretted it ever since.
I never thought I’d like a paisley but I love them now. I’d love a paisley tele
Good honest and insightful review for all of us still waiting for theirs, thanks man!
Thanks! I hope you don’t have to wait too much longer
Thanks for your review, John. Is your tremolo bridge set to floating? Or can you only go down in pitch?
Thanks! Yes it can only go down.
👍🏻👍🏻
One of the better comparison videos. I can’t make my mind up which I prefer. P90s definitely hotter and dare I say “purer?” Edit to add: would have loved to hear slower, more sustained clean tones to compare.
Thanks, I really appreciate the kind words! I prefer the p90’s. I think purer makes sense. Very dynamic too. Your playing really affects it.
Looks bloody awesome!
It does!
Man it looks and sounds great
It really does!
Reckon you will lift the action? ;)
Haha reckon I will. Only a touch though
I like that riff.
Thanks!
Gibson tone is better than
Muy bien ejecutado ,ma ravillosas las 57/62 pick ups perfectas con una ssl4 de seymour duncan en el puente

I own both. 😂
Nice!
Thanks!
I just got the P90 model. I'm surprised by how hot the P-90s are. They push amps harder than most of the guitars I've got.
I agree. I love the sound of them and I don’t normally like hot pickups.
Great vid. Hearing them compared on the same positions back-to-back with short riffs makes it easier to tell how they sound different. Can I ask what you're using for an amp?
Thanks! I thought that would be a good way to hear the differences. The amp is a fender blues deville. Overdrive tones are with a TS808
Up next, comparing an Audi R8 to a Yugo.
The Revstar is certainly no Yugo
@@johnfalzon You're right. It's more like a Kia or Hyundai. My bad.
When is the last time Gibson has innovated anything? They are more like an old Chevy than an Audi. Something boomers think makes them look cool and unique, but looks and sounds the same as every other one. Nothing special.
@@danielfenmore2712 I agree. But remember, Boomers got to see all the great 70's & 80's rocks shows. You only have rap & Taylor Swift. Lol
It seems you never played a Yamaha, they are great guitars... especially the Revstar series...
Les paul is brighter IMO and sounds beter on solos especialy on neck pickup. I have both yamahas RSS02T and RSS20 exacly in the same colours as yours and LP Traditional. I will compare all of them soon.
Yeah I agree. LP has more ‘quack’. Both sound pretty good but definitely different. Revstars do very well against much more expensive guitars
@@johnfalzon Hm, would pickup change make them more alike on the neck? If we put burstbuckers on Revstar.
@@Lordofmrak It would certainly be closer. I love the neck pickup on the LP. I’d love to try it one day
Genereally agree but at some points the paul has some tweaks that the yamaha doesn't have, wich tbh surprices me
With the possible exception of the BD-2, I wouldn’t use any of these into a clean amp. They’re overdrive pedals, best suited for pushing an amp that’s already breaking up, in my opinion.
Fair enough!
Great playing. This pedal sings for sure.
Thanks! It’s a great pedal for sure
Smooth…real smooth!
Thanks!
didn't goop or sign it. tones -25%
I wanted to make sure it worked first! Magic tone goop is now installed.
I saved my goop. Going to sell the tube in 30 years for a fortune.
Actually liked the chunkier sound of the simulation better.
Same here.
Il suono del tuo amplificatore è bellissimo ….
Thank you!
❤❤❤
Thanks Lou!
Are you playing with the blues driver also? If so, how do we know what the actual amp, cab settings of the IR-2 sound like? Plus, it wasn’t designed to be played through an amp…. It’s supposed to replace it or back one up when it goes down during a gig?..
Yes playing the BD also. Settings are all stock I didn’t change the cab settings from the stock Celestions. You are right, this isn’t what the pedal was designed for however it can be used like this. You can turn the cab sims off completely. I just wanted to experiment with using it differently.
Very well done. It sounds good. I have to wait about another month for mine.
Thanks! I just missed out on the first run and this was part of the second run. Pretty cool pedal. I’ll never own a real klon but this sounds great
OMG you’re fantastic… Love it❤
Thank you so much!
You’d probably get better results by going into an FX return, bypassing your amps preamp section. Also disabling the cab IR on the pedal since you already have a speaker, thus making it redundant and possibly ruining the tone. That’s what this sounds like to me but I could be wrong
I had considered running through the FX loop but I just wanted to try it like a drive pedal. I had the same conclusion. If you were to use the pedal like this you would turn the IR off.
Is this going in the effects loop or just the delay?
Just the delay. BD and IR straight in the front
So... this is for people looking amp-in-a-box pedals too?
I think it could be but I would turn the IR’s off if I kept using it like this
Great! Nice collection!
Thanks!
Very nice!
Thanks!
Amazing so talented ❤
So good, John. It will be even better live, I'm sure.
