What do fans want? A-going all out in 2025 through 2027 to bring at least one world series title home. It will mean not extending 3 or 4 of the 5 young core and rebuilding. B-nibble around the edges to be "good enough", meaning probably a wildcard contender from 2025-29. They still do not extend 2 or 3 of the young core but won't need a fulll rebuild. Fans want A. The Orioles best case is B because they won't spend.

Burnes was awesome, but only for 1 year (and the Birds faltered in Oct). Eflin was solid and a steal. Rogers? Meh. But I’m also leery of giving a SP a 7-8 year mega contract if it means you lose the ability to extend “the core” in 3-4 years. Need to keep Adley + Gunnar + Westburg + Cowser together as O’s (and they’re best friends). Add Holliday if he makes the leap in Year 2 like Gunnar and Cowser. But they’ve GOT to trade for a top line SP, because he’s not in our pipeline. Castillo makes more sense than Cease (stop getting a guy for 1 year!), unless they can get Cease to extend.

First of all, if you are good at drafting and scouting which I believe this club is now, the prospects will get replenished each year through the draft. Yes Adley and Jackson were top of the draft selections but Gunnar and Jordan were simply great picks due to scouting. I also think that Honeycutt will be another great player in the big leagues before long not to mention what we have immediately coming up in Basallo and Mayo. Lastly our international expansion has been huge in the last 4-5 years. So I don't mind giving up prospects knowing that this front office will simply reload. If I am going to give up prospects though, it has to be for what I consider an Ace. I would only be considering Cease and Valdez for 2025. Yes they are rentals but they eat innings consistently and have the pitching stats to prove that they are a #1. I wouldn't put so much value in the extra year of team control when it comes to Castillo. He just doesn't have that workload year in and year out consistency. Its great to have 2 years under contract but its more important to me that we get immediate dividends on the trade in 2025. Top of the rotation, innings eater, years of consistency, and takes the ball every fifth day.

Thanks, Ryan. It's always a treat when you have Buck as a guest, and for an hour it feels more like The Buck Showalter Show. Like Jim Palmer, the depth of his baseball knowledge and memories is amazing, Buck's probably the best manager in history to never win a World Series, and none was more deserving. He's deserving of a plaque in Cooperstown. Even though I've warmed to Hyder, who's done a great job guiding the Birds, I didn't want to see Buck go. If any proof is needed as to how much he loved managing the Orioles, when it was announced that the club was looking in a different direction for skipper, he offered to take a 50% pay cut just to stay on!

Castillo is owed $23.5M through 2027 with a vesting option for 2028. That is four years of control. He has a no-trade clause through 2025. Not sure what it would take to get him to waive it. Definitely would rather have him than Cease, just because of the potential walkaway factor. Can we get Castillo for Mountcastle, Rogers, and McDermott?

Trading for 1 year pitchers isnt feasible longterm when you arent drafting pitchers. At some point you have to pay the price. They are playing in the East not the down west division. They have the money.
