Let's Make Some Predictions - World Tour Finals (Beckman's Breakdown Ep.6)
The World Tour Finals are due to start tomorrow (as of this video dropping) and with the draws done I thought it best to give you my own thoughts.
Oh, and I also attempted some predictions but these proved incredibly difficult for me...you'll see.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this episode of Beckman's Breakdown, I'll be back next week to review the event and also check just how many "predictions" I got right.

Literally 2 days after I dropped my video on An Se Young there was an article that came out in the Korea Times that outlined a number of HUGE changes that the Sports Ministry have made to the Korean Badminton Association. Changes will of course affect Korean Badminton but also Korean Sport as a whole! In this video I go through all of them with you and offer my own, modest opinion. Link to the ...

On the 5th of August, 2024, An Se Young made history by winning the women's singles Olympic title, becoming Korea's first Olympic champion in that discipline since 1996. It should have been a time for celebration, both for An Se Young, the BKA, and the Korean people. However, in the press conference immediately afterwards An Se Young dropped a bombshell, criticising the BKA for neglect, mismana...

At this tournament we saw the return of some top stars for the first time since the Olympics, players such as Lakshya Sen, PV Sindhu, Aaron Chia, and Soh Wooi Yik. Is the Relay System GOOD For Badminton?
Просмотров 7 тыс.2 месяца назад
At the 2024 World Junior Team Championships the BWF implemented a new scoring system. The relay system. It was met with some scepticism and a lot of confusion. I was certainly felt that, but I, like many others, was willing to give it a chance. Which is what I did, and now it is time for me to talk about. The good, the bad and the ugly. Can Viktor Axelsen EVER be the GOAT?
Просмотров 28 тыс.2 месяца назад
After winning gold in Paris, Viktor Axelsen matched one of Lin Dan's most iconic achievements, winning back to back Olympic titles. It's for this reason, combined with others, that some people have started the conversation around the GOAT of badminton, more specifically can Viktor Axelsen take the GOAT status from Lin Dan? Currently, I think no, but as Viktor still has time to win much more inc...

Welcome to the 2nd episode of Beckman's Breakdown, where I give my thoughts on what happened at badminton's biggest tournaments. I might not so interested with your contents in the past. But today i do like your video 👍👍👍
That's good to hear, glad you liked it 🙂
LZJ is pretty hot-and-cold, same with Christie and Vitidsarn. Those 3 are the biggest ? of the whole thing. If they perform well, they could well beat everyone. If not, then... yeah
LZJ was pretty hot today
This video was way too long. Had to turn it off.
Ok
Hi Ben! I agree with your analysis. And yeah, MS is hard to predict.
Cheers man
I really hope that Zheng & Huang can defend their World Tour Finals title once again, as this will be their very last tournament. However, I gotta be very honest, it would be much more difficult than last year, since they are facing their toughest opponent Jiang ZB & Wei YX, their compatriots, whom they got outclassed in straight games by in their recent meeting and have the worst H2H against compared to the other top pairs. Assuming that both of these pairs advance together from Group A, they will face each other in the Semifinal/Final as well, depending on the knockout draw.
I wish Wang Zhi Yi could see this video! She needs this video! I have so much faith in her!
I have high hopes for Wang Zhi Yi :)
btw, Ben, how come RUclips recommend your channel to me so late...I should have known you since 2017.
@@BenBeckmanBadminton same defeat in Uber Cup. I hope she could have same road to glory like Zhang Ning. Less bumpy, but same road, if I am not too greedy as a Chinese fan.
I can't believe this is how axelsens reign over the WTF and other season finals ends, I hope he can get back next year to win his 7th?? 6th?? I don't remember.
it would be his 6th. He has won the world tour finals 3x and the super series finals twice
@@BenBeckmanBadminton pretty insane how many he's won, I'd say he's got at least two more in the bag if he just stays in good form
Men's singles Group B: we've got fast players, slow players, players coming into form... hard to predict Group A: I WANNA BACK CTC CAUSE I WANT TO DAMMIT! Keep doing what you do Ben, love it
hahaha, yeah, I just wanted to back Chou this time around

Theres a reason why this legend is a 2×Olympic Medalists...You dont win Multiple Olympic Medals unless you are amongst the BEST IN THE WORLD...Though I wish she would win at least a World Championships Gold to kind of compliment her beautiful career but irrespective of an individual major tittle she will always be a great of WS category.
MEN SINGLE Group A: Lee Zii Jia & Li Shi Feng Group B: Shi Yu Qi & Kunlavut Vitidsarn. Will see...
MS category is super unpredictable. In group A, Antonsen does seem to be a favorite but somehow has to meet LZJ who beat him last two times quite convincingly. CTC/LSF in great form could beat anyone in this group too. In group B, I really can’t bet on anyone lol. Kodai and Kunlavut seem to be underdogs but could pull out crazy form like when they were at WC2023 or Kunlavut at Paris 2024. On the other hand, I have my doubts about whether SYQ recent form and fitness could tolerate these 3 players’ playstyle especially Kodai as they usually played 3 games with a tight score in a deciding game. Christie on a good day could beat anyone but that’s not what his nature because he kind of lacks consistency. So it’s so exciting and interesting to see who will crown this.
I agree! Very difficult to predict, I shouldn't said I would 🤣
Such thorough analysis, great video!
Thanks 😊🙌🏻
All Malaysian teams are cannon folders in this tournament. Non will make it past the group stage IMO 🤣
Bold prediction
Thanks Ben for prediction works well done 😂. Agreed super hard to predict but we all can predict one thing. Thats its going to be exciting matches.😂😂😂
Exactly! I just can't wait to see the action unfold
Thanks for the video. good as usual. It is very difficult to predict. My predictions for final finals: Men's single: Antonson vs Christie. Women's single: Wang vs An. MD: Malaysians vs Indonesians. WD: Liu/Tan vs Tan/Thinaah. XD: Chinese vs Chinese.
Predicting finals almost impossible as we don't know the draws for knockout stages. But thanks for the comment 😊
Hope you can create a new video to compile the issues of bwf.. from the rules, to officiating issues, handling situations like crowds pointing lights on all england, or previously the ridiculous service fault issues due to the change of serving rules...
Not that i have any real insight, but I think Axelson can play, just not at the level worthy of world tour finals. So without anything to proof and being the good sportsman that he's known for, he gave the opportunity to someone else who might have a better shot and/or desperately want/need this opportunity.
Pretty sure he wasn’t thinking about “giving the opportunity”. Garbage
I'm sure he could walk on court but if he doesn't feel confident to win, more likely doesn't want to make his injury worse, then I understand him not wanting to play.
This year's is interesting. Theres 3 pairs that isnt actively playing and are playing their last competitive matches here. Its too bad Kim Won Ho wont be playing. Seemingly nt as much korean representation?
저도~~한국에혼복조가못간게 두고두고아싑네요~~ㅜㅜ
With the WTF, some players are just happy to wind down for the year already and hence, they don't go all out. Then you have pairs that haven't played competitively since the conclusion of the Olympics, so they may not be at their best. It will be a fond farewell for some of the players. We will miss their presence in future tournaments.
Zheng decision to retire early is expected. To be #1 you are expected to be that from China's perspective and stay #1. You are provided with all the training, support, etc except your body and mind. If you can take it, good for you. But if you realize you are no longer what you are 3 years ago, you have to ring the bell (UDT practice of leaving). There is no shame in ringing the bell. In the land of plenty, you are always up against younger and better players, who are hungry to run over you given the slightest opportunity.
I don't think Zheng retired because he didn't feel he had it in him anymore physically. He had sacrificed so much time with his family and he simply wasn't willing to do that any longer.
@@BenBeckmanBadminton Had his purse been 70% all the way after first win, then perhaps otherwise. But it is what it is. There was a year or two where they were "required" to play the 500, 750, 1,000 events to reap in as much as possible and you saw him going downhill.
Please make shorter videos. Like 20 minutes, not more.
Why so ? Ben has his inputs and he is right that it’s getting harder to make predictions because no one actually dominates anymore .
If you want that sort of content I don't think I'm your man. 20 minute and under videos will be few and far between on this channel haha
Tik tok messed up your attention span lmao
Speak for yourself. Keep up the good work Ben, love the long form content. ADHD TikTok kids have the attention span of a hyperactive chipmunk
I also enjoy longer videos and all the ramblings. It's difficult to find good badminton content, so I'm happy to see extra long ones.
As they always say: Predictions are difficult to make, especially if they concern the future. Thank you very much that much information! Célestin
When stuck between Li Shi Feng and Lee Zii Jia, choose Chou Tien Chen 😆
🤣😎
Great Episode. In my opinion MS = Antonsen WS = An Se Young MD = Alfian/Ardianto WD = Liu/Tan XD = Zheng/Huang Alternate picks MS = Vitidsarn WS = Wang Zhi Yi MD = Kim/Anders WD = Chen/Jia XD = Jiang/Wei Basically China is taking WD/XD without a doubt having 2 strong pairs, they might not get any other title.
Thanks for your own predictions and thoughts 🙌🏻 and for watching of course 😊
LZJ, Li Shi Feng, Kun & SYQ
I like your opinion about all the players without biased with certain players. Your explain made it looks like every player have their own privilege
I have no affiliations! I have my favourite players but I'll always try to stay impartial
@@BenBeckmanBadminton Don’t worry . I am pretty sure that Kunvalut will understand . Lol.
I think YaSi have trained pretty well for the tournament from clips that i have seen which is very nice because its so good watching them when they are at their top level ChenJia is defo interesting one to look out for But yea in general a very good tournament coming up with lots of exciting matches - would've been icing on the cake if we had WS groups with TTY, CYF, Marin and so on because I feel like WS is the weakest discipline here this year which is a shame because it has been one of the best disciplines over the past 6-8 years
Also PV Sindhu with Marin and TTY and CYF
Yes I agree and should have mentioned that re the WS. I'm still excited for it but it seems hollow in a way without the players you've mentioned present
I'm not really sure who will through from Group B of Mens Singles, but i can guarantee that all 6 matches will last at least 1 hour with names like Shi Yuqi, Kodai, Kunlavut, and Christie 🤣🤣
🤣🤣
XD - Zheng / Huang WD - Chen / Jia MD - Lee / Wang WS - Yamaguchi MS - Chou
I hope for Chou and nur izzudin and also Yamaguchi
Anyone knows why WTM is leaving LZJ's team?
From what i understand its been agreed from the beginning to have him with the team until December 2024, so I guess its not so much him leaving but probably they’ve reached their targets and agreed not to renew their contract.
He did mention before he only gonna stay with lzj till olympic and been thinking about retiring.
Chou Tien Chen always overlooked, actually he is a top player and former World No. 2❤
Well, 3 out of 4 from Group A are former world No . 2. Everyone is top player .
Being completely honest, I used to dislike ZSW/HYQ because I was a big Watagashi fan and hated how often they were knock out by the Chinese pair. I have since grown up and realised how stupid that idea is and now have nothing but respect for the pair. Well, maybe still a little dislike as I really wanted a Watagashi gold at either the Olympics or WC but I am happy seeing ZSW/HYQ win.
Crazy how CTC is able to stay on form this far into his career. Also cheering for Lee Zii Jia, hoping he can push his potential, imo the most exciting players to watch when he's aggressive 💪
Let's see what LZJ we see this week
He used to be the most exciting player to watch, now he does the same thing as everyone else. It’s obviously an effective way of doing things but I don’t get excited watching him anymore
Maybe make a patreon group ?
I will look into it. Need to figure out what to offer, etc
Hehe I am here!! So excited for this year wtf!! ❤
Welcome 😊
Viktor did not have a head cold I don't think. He's just getting less fit and Anders was in good form this tournament
First! I'm too early am I.
Very early!
@@BenBeckmanBadminton Just finished watching! Great picks btw. Still rooting for LZJ. His group seems tough, everyone seems having a fair chance to clear the group stage.
@@CraigAnsibinI think it is going to be very tough for CTC to emerge as Top 2. I predict that Li Shi Feng will get one of the two spots and the last will be a fight between Antonsen and LZJ . Although I deeply root for LZJ , Antonsen still has a slight edge . No matter what , I really hope ZJ can win this tournament. Beckman didn’t pick ZJ the last Olympics and he got a bronze . So since Beckman didn’t pick ZJ again this time , ZJ might actually stand a really good chance to advance to the next stage.LOL . And if that happens , then it is probably a good thing that he doesn’t get picked by Beckman . 😂😂And I surely hope Ben never picks ZJ in future unless he wanna jinx the player 😂 Go ZJ 🦾

4Point help from line judge for Shi was successfully thwarted by Christie through a successful challenge. This incident also happened in the badminton asian championship between Christie vs Shi. Their line judge is truly magical🫵😭
8:23 no they're not their new coach....Satwik was carrying a shoulder injury was the main reason they were out of action.
I thought as much. Thanks
ChenToh's epic comeback very² make me goosebumps btw Ben how did you know about that🤔
Because I watched the match 🤣 but yeah it was a cool thing to withess
43:22 not a fan of Anders’ playing style or tactics here
His tactic of celebrating?
Reddy and shetty could have won if they added decisive element like decisive drop in their game against koreans but went for hard hitting when Koreans were expecting exactly that for defending.
This is easier said than done but also compounds the point I made that they weren't 100% match fit
