God, rewatching after season 3 is another level of emotional damage...

9:32 I don't know if it's because I had the privilege of growing up with more queer friendly media (or I just avoided the homophobic or tragic side of it, I am 23, so...) but I tried watching Brokeback Mountain a few months ago and boy was I unpleasantly surprised. Like... their relationship was so toxic due to the context and it ended so tragically... like, sorry but that's one movie I'm not watching ever again, thank you. The acting was great, though.

"I did this to myself" is all of us after we watched the first season to the end.

The movie's biggest problem really is that there're too many plotlines going on at the same time wich, while individually good and interesting, are just too tighlty squeezed together making the movie seem more chaotic and aimless than it actually is. Part of the problem might be that the movie was actually cut down from 2h to a little over 100 minutes but I attribute it mostly to the writer duo, the third writer (who also wrote the Lego Batman movie) was only credited because parts of his old Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian script where used, has a backgorund in writing shows for TV (Smallville and Wednesday among others). That basicly means that the script was written by people who're used to having way more time to setup and resolve things and had basicly no experience in condensing stuff down for a movie format. Personally I'dve left out Dolores. Rory and Jeremy where more than enough as villains. But other than that I genuinly liked the movie myself. The mother-daughter dynamic was actually really well done and I kinda liked that Astrid had some elements of the musical Lydia in her because I really like that version of the character. I've actually avoided watching anything featuring Jenna Ortega kinda out of spite because I've seen more than enough young actresses just being elevated to the current it girl only to be dropped later by studios wich is just frustrating to me so I didn't want to get into the hype. Hell, that's exactly what happened to Winona Ryder back in the day. But I really liked her in this. She pulled the whole teen anger off pretty damn well while also coming off as fairly grounded and her dynamic with Ryder just felt... cozy(?) not sure how to describe it but despite Astrid being so angry at Lydia their interactions had a certain kindness to them. Y'know less "I fucking hate you completly" and more like "I fucking hate what happened to you". Guess it helped that both of them appearently got along super well on set. And Lydia seeming like a sellout actually makes sense story wise if you think about it because in the beginning she's not really herself anymore after getting divorced, having a broken relationship with her daughter, reeling from her ex-husband's death, being stalked by Beetlejuice, trying to drown him out by taking pretty hefty sedatives (not sure if you caught it but the pill bottle says that it's benzos) to supress her powers and is being actively manipualted by Rory. That's a woman who is just straight up being burried by problems no wonder her behaviour changed. Deliah even points that out. I like to headcanon that after all this Lydia becomes a bit more like her odl self again. Also, appearently the whole thing was a reference to Tim Burton himself and the career issues he had especially after getting involved with Disney with Lydia standing in for him. Like after the Dumbo remake he actually wanted to retire, that's how much working for Disney screwed him up. BJBJ really feels like a "I'm back bitches!" kinda film wich he REALLY wanted to direct. I'd give the movie a similiar rating to yours. It's got it's issues but those are more on a structural/technical level and could, theoretically, be fixed with some editing and who knows maybe the full 2h cut actually maked things a little better. I say it's a worthy sequel and sure as hell has more of a right to exist than all those other sequels and remakes of older movies. Like, who really wanted Gladiator 2? My only worry is that after the massive sucess of this movie WB and other studios will take away the wrong lesson and just try and churn out more and more decades-later-sequels instead of just having passionate people make good and fun movies.

I found Lydia to be soooo LAME in this movie! I can't believe the awesome kid from the first movie turned into THIS. Very disappointing. And as hot as Monica is, her storyline was absolutely POINTLESS. And yes, the wedding song part was WAY too long. The whole movie was honestly just kind of a mess and relied WAY too much on nostalgia.

Director/writer Matthew Lopez would not make it unless he found the right Henry and Alex, and by universe he succeeded. Took him 5 months to find Taylor Zakhar Perez, and he and Nick Galitzine hit it out of the park. I honestly think Galitzine deserves an Oscar for his portrayal as the repressed Henry, madly crushing on Alex since the first day they met, but determined to keep falling in love with Alex a secret even from Alex so he doesn’t shame the royal family.

Especially for pointing out that the queer experience is not a monolith, even among people of the same sexualities. And also the underrepresention of aro/ace peeps, and continued bi/panphobia within the community. I really enjoyed the technical discussion, and the character/story discussions. Kudos to David’s actor for making me hate David from the first frame I saw him in. Heartstopper is incredibly special writing, because it DOES cover trauma right from the start, yet still manage to feel Ike a warm hug (from that wonderful friend/found family group that Darcy melts into last episode).

Agree with everything you said. Heartstopper does tackle some tough stuff right from the start, but in such an overall positive, safe, comforting environment that the show is exactly like a warm hug. I’m watching this after Season 3 came out, I hope you were ok getting through the first half. I think it was tough for everyone, and it was smart for Joe and Kit to be told to tell everyone in interviews the back half of season 3 was all about horniness and sex, as a promise of better, happier times ahead to get us through the first half. Joe and Kit are such a revelation as Charlie and Nick. Their acting just gets more and more elevated from a fantastic start. The whole cast is great. Such a warm Found Family feeling.

This was the first R-rated movie I saw in theaters and I felt like it was really fitting and relatable as a 17 year old. Rewatching it into my 20s, I really appreciate how the characters of the mom, the brother, and the friend are all nuanced, not just Nadine.

The moment where Tao comforts Nick at the Halloween party is so sad, but it's beautiful. I mean, I guess Kit Connor said Episode 4 was one of the best this season for a reason. The growth between the characters is so heartwarming to witness, and I think Kit is a really good "crier" in performances. There's something about his expressions in general that are just so damn endearing. In particular, the way he holds his mouth sometimes (like various combinations of a smile and frown at the same time if that makes sense), which comes across as actual complex emotions (happy/nervous, sad/hopeful, worry/love, etc). It's difficult to point out and explain the differences if you dont already notice, but I can definitely see them, and think it makes Nick seem more like a real person instead of a fictional character.... Again, its hard to explain, but hopefully that makes sense lol

I love this show so much. As someone who's dealt with disordered eating for most of my life, I quite liked the way they went about the ED storyline. Some stuff felt just a _little_ breezed by, but I didn't mind it because of A) the kind of show we're watching, and B) it was presented in a hopeful way without diminishing the seriousness of the issue. It's kind of hard to watch, but a good cry feels quite healing sometimes, ya know? I was bulimic all through highschool and beyond (I still binge sometimes, but haven't purged in years and am doing much better these days), and while the behavioral patterns present themselves differently from Anorexia, there's a lot of overlap with the body image and subsequent mental health issues that tend to go along with any ED.

The UK does have a relatively short school summer break time, it's usually six weeks. 3 terms a year is common in the UK system, with it common to have 2 weeks off at Christmas and another 2 at Easter. Schools and regions do vary.
