@@custompchardware thank you
How would one go about putting this in a standard mini itx case? Would it require custom drilling for the mounting bracket or something or could it just sit in the bottom of the case somehow? I'm new to mini pcs and wanted a quiet psu solution for the case I got that takes a standard flex psu that fits in the bottom of the case.
They have a couple of brackets for sfx and atx to allow for the mains cable - hdplex.com/hdplex-sfx-bracket.html - but you would need to bolt the front mounting plate to your case, which may involve some custom drilling depending on your case.
So why is it passive, if there is a fan? Why does the fan face psu wall? Heard these run pretty hot but that's probably the point with GaN.. however there is still plenty of plastic there :).
The 500W version has an internal fan that activates at >60°C. The 250W version doesn't have a fan. The casing of both PSUs is aluminium alloy. I've not run these close to their limits but from what I've seen the case can get warm to the touch but not too hot to handle.
Think this might be able to be cramed into a velka 3?
As the Velka 3 takes a ENP-7660B-VK 600W Flex ATX PSU I think that it could be done. Of course as long as your system doesn't need more than 250W.
What are their difference they have 4 different model of 15.6 1080p 60hz. The T03 , J03 , T15 and just the regular 1080p
All 4 of these I have purchased are the same type (1080p 60Hz) with the standard HDMI socket, I noted that there is another model with a mini HDMI that is slightly cheaper on Amazon. As I have only the one type I can't comment on the others as to how well they compare, but the ones I have work well.
are you doing a video on the HDPLEX 800W DC-ATX with 12V-63VDC Input
I've don't have any immediate plans for a system based on this PSU, but when it comes time to build/rebuild one of the larger more powerful systems then this PSU would be a candidate.
thank you! i've always been looking at portable monitors these days because they're a lot cheaper! this particular model only retails for 150$ from where i am, and i'm thinking of getting 2
I'm glad you found the video helpful. I now have four of these monitors as they are large enough to be useful but small enough to not take up a lot of room. Plus they only draw about 15w.
Can u connect an android phone with dex with one cable powered by the phone?
That's a good question, unfortunately I don't have a Samsung phone to be able to use DeX. The monitor does ship with a USB C power supply plug, and I'm doubtful that you would be able to power the monitor from the phone itself. I have powered the monitor from a USB C cable plugged into a desktop though.
That's a lovely kit, looking forward to watch your follow up videos.
Yes the kit was packaged well, has great documentation and with the integrated keyboard, display and case has the possibility of being a stand alone system.
How's it after almost one year? Planning to buy one to use with my Macbook.
Still working well, I ended up buying four of them. I've not had any problems with any of them on Windows systems.
Wow, when you say custom. . you meant it. I have a similar, but 4x U.2 SSD and 12x SATA SSD (just like you, dual 6x icydocks) unit about the same size. I use a PEX 8724 HBA card in the 16x slot, 6x sata off the MB, 6 more off a PCIe SATA card in the 4x slot. I use an M.2 to 4x PCIe adapter card for a 10gbe nic all packed up in a silverstone SG02-F case. It had two 5.25" front drive bays for optical disks that were perfect for the icydocs. I have the advantage of just building this ~8 months ago. It's pretty awesome that you built your own case.
Thank you, your rig sounds impressive too. The Icy Docks range of cages are really good for these type of builds, packing so many SSDs or hard drives in a limited space.
amazing piece of hardware
Indeed it is.
Hi i'm trying to do the same. How do you starte the gpu power supply. There is a switch but how do you link it ? Ragards.
You talk about a "power switch" in the vidéo 🙂
Another question 😊 The 500w power supply also power the odroid ?or there are 2 power supplies ?regards 🙂
The HDPlex PSU is for the Graphics card, the Odroid has it's own PSU, so yes there are two PSUs. If you have a look at part 5 (ruclips.net/video/sRxT45bbGhU/видео.html) you'll see the Odroid power switch. Once the Odroid is powered on the PCIe card starts to draw power for the GPU.
Is it a magnetic case?
Yes the cover/stand does have magnets in it.
@@custompchardware Thanks. I'll buy it.
@@custompchardware .. Thanks I'll buy this Bro
I keep watching your videos saying eventually I’m gonna make my own case one day…
I'm sure you will.
I was soo confused i didn't realise it was a synchronization cable.
Not many people will use multiple PSUs together, but the option is there for those that need it.
🔥🔥🔥 this is awesome!
Many thanks, glad you liked it.
Now you can extend the HDD with a M.2 6 SATA adapter instead of using the NVME 2 TB Storage. You'd have to get a little power. Can you do a video like that? I'm curious how you'd do it.
I'd probably go down the route I did with the PCIe card for the H3+ and use one of the HDPlex PSUs to provide power for the additional drives.
Thank you for the video. The case is disappointing and a hochtpotch hack.
I'm sure other cases will appear for the H4 series of Odroids. This one is certainly compact and not designed to be opened up on a regular basis.
Thank you for explicitly stating in this video that the fan is pulling air out of the case!
Could you do tell us the power consumption with TrueNAS running with disks on spin down (idle), disks up and so on?
I'm not going to be installing TrueNas on this computer.
Nice design and setup. But, it would've been nice to see it booting up and show all four 20TB drives as working successfully.?
Well you could watch part 7, which does show it booting up. Unfortunately one of the drives was DOA so for the moment it's working with a two drive mirror.
Im planning on getting this psu or a similar model to build an ultra low profile external gpu enclosure, super excited
That sounds like an interesting project, good luck with it.
🎉🎉🎉
Are the two Noctua case fans blowing into or away from the case?
They are extractor fans.
@@custompchardwareOk, just to confirm, these fans are oriented so that the flow of air is from inside the case to outside of the case.
Yes that is correct.
How the heck do I order one if they don't take credit cards? I've never bought anything using a bank transfer.
I'm not sure where you are placing your order but the UK distributor takes credit/debit cards.
@@custompchardware Weird.
But they accept paypal
I've got my Odriod H4+ with its case 4. I've got 3 seagate 16tb ironwolf pro drives on the way. Loving it so far. Seeing you do a custom case is really interesting and giving me a lot of ideas.
Many thanks glad you are liking the series so far. Sounds good, the 4 SATA ports makes the Odroid H4+ & Ultra into a perfect NAS system.
Nice build. The Maker Beams are great for this. What prevented longer vertical beams from being used so that drives could be mounted vertically?
Many thanks, Vertically would have been my preference, but as I'm running out of space in the rack, that this will fit into, I had to limit the vertical height so it would fit in the space available.
@@custompchardware What are the dimensions of the build, and how are you mounting it to the rack?
The frame is 42x25x12 cm. At present it'll be sitting on a shelf in the rack.
Nicely done.
Many thanks.
YaYyy! Finally, another part to this series. I've been lurking and watching all your videos esp with the new Odroid H4. Absolutely phenomenal video! and looking forward to the next one. After few years, just days prior I ended up ordering Asrock x300 Deskmini to extract the motherboard to create a custom NAS project due to the sizing requirement. Had I waited 2 more days :P the odroid launched! lol, so stoked! Good luck mate.
Many thanks, glad you're liking the series.
nice build
Many thanks, glad you like it so far.
is the 15v (60W) power supply enough if you only use sata 2.5 ssd or do you always need the 19v (130W)?
I have one Odroid H3+ with a single 2.5 SSD running off one of the 15V PSUs without problem. Multiple 3.5 HDDs are more likely to require the larger PSU.
is the 15v power supply enough if you only use sata ssd or do you always need the 19v?
I have one Odroid H3+ with a single 2.5 SSD running off one of the 15V PSUs without problem.
PFFFFF Odroid now is the king!
This is a very under-appreciated video. Such a great build!
Many thanks, glad you liked it.
Thanks for the video. I'm on the fence about the ultra, struggling to find the itx kit in the UK. Also I'm not sure if I understand the power reqs, would the 19v psu be OK for 2 3.5" hdds? Please test power reqs
The H4 can be purchased from www.odroid.co.uk in the UK. Yes the 19v PSU should be fine for 2 3.5" HDDs. I intend to run 4 3.5" HDDs off the H4 Ultra and a 19V PSU.
This comparison makes no sense. We don't need to run performance tests to know that a newer CPU will beat an old CPU, a dedicated graphics card will beat integrated graphics, and an m.2 NVME drive will beat a SATA SSD. These things are all common sense. It would have been more valuable to just take the H4 Ultra and do some real world tasks. At least remove the graphics card from the H3+ and swap in an m.2 to make it more apples to apples. Also, why are all your videos so short?
I did get several request to run benchmarks and the comparison with a previously built machine was to highlight that the H3+ models are still very useful when expanded. Once the H4 Ultra NAS is complete I can compare it with the H3+ NAS. As to video length, for the Hardware videos, they have ranged from 1 to 20 minutes, with the average being 5 minutes in length. Long enough to contain useful information on the hardware and short enough for people to watch in their busy lives.
@@custompchardware Do you think that showing power consumption in the bios actually helps anyone ? This thing draws 5W in idle with 3 disks when ASPM is set properly in the bios, but you overlooked that part. Useless videos.
Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion. Personally I build and use computers to perform tasks, so as they are never idle for long, how much power they draw when busy is quite relevant.
Windows is a trash OS. Unfortunately, so are most of the rest.
Windows, like all other OS's, have evolved over time, so there are likely to be parts that are less than ideal. Short of writing your own OS from scratch, which some people have done, we just have to find a way to work with what's there.
what size aluminum extrusion is that?
That's 10mm, specifically Makerbeam, although other manufacturers also do this size, it's fine for most of the computer frames.
Hold on, H4 has intel nics now?? Nice, that’s a perfect pfsense box.
Yes it does indeed, I'd missed that when the H4 series was announced.
Nice. I'm considering this. It's all Odroid here. But I don't believe the PSU does 1.3 watt on its own, there must be a mistake. I tried some random smaller PSU's here together, but I never saw the slightest milliwatt. It's important to me because I run SBCs on solar power, but there's always a dark cloud above me.
Even though the Odroid isn't "powered on" it's still consuming a small amount of power, if only to detect when you press the power button as these are momentary power switches. The little red led on the motherboard is a dead giveaway. The power supply itself, when connected to a computer, will also consume a small amount of power unless the PSU has a physical off switch. I too run computers off solar batteries.
@@custompchardware Yeah, I thought it might be that. I just misunderstood. Or I had to be sure nothing weird was going on.
I find it unusual that Intel's specification page for this CPU lists the maximum RAM as 16gb, yet these boards seem to accept more RAM than that.
Yes I found that odd too, but it's not the first board with an Intel CPU that can support more than Intel quote.
Just Amazing what can be done with these boards
Yes they really do enable a lot of possibilities.
Where do you find 20TB storage at 2.5 form factor? None of the ones I was able to find online were NAS-worthy.
The largest capacity 2.5 form factor drives I've seen are 5TB. The WD Red NAS drives I've ordered are 3.5 form factor.
@@custompchardware I haven't seen a large capacity hdd that is not SMR. And if it's SMR, it's not recommended for NAS,
The Western Digital Red Pro 20TB uses CMR, not the slower shingled magnetic recording(SMR) technology.
@@custompchardware Sir, you are a scholar and a gentlemen. Thanks!
Thanks for the videos on these.
Many thanks, glad you like them.
Network link speeds are measured in gigabits per second not gigabytes
You are quite correct, it was a slip of the tongue.
🤔 Looks like a good board hopefully its priced well! Also you sound scottish sir!
I am indeed Scottish.
Could you please run some benchmarks on these boards before you build your NAS?
Yes that's the plan, the NAS drives haven't arrived yet.
