Dark Patterns was really great! The villain was a little silly but so are coming so it works. FML did way more for me this issue than the first too. Really well done.

I was on the fence for that one since I dig the character being street level and the idea of being surrounded by superheroes worried me a bit. But I'll definitely go back and check it out in your rec.

Dude, ain't that the truth. I'm loving both Skin Police and Plastic Man No More too, amongst a slew of others. Distilling this list down to what I considered the best of the best was no easy task when we had so much excellent stuff to pick from. And a lot came from newer creators which just gives me so much to look forward to next year. Thanks for the view and kind words, man!

Some of these Batman titles are just pure gold right now. This one is definitely following that trajectory.

You have to tell me your thoughts on Precious Metal after reading it. I'm a little jealous that you get to experience it all in one sitting. Regarding Marvel, I take solace knowing the big two have always tender to ebb and flow with each other. When one is down, the other is lights out. Right now, it's DCs time to shine.

@@9PanelGrid Alright just read the Precious Metal series. Whoa!!! Now that was a cerebral roller coaster. That book gets massive points for creativity. It was like traveling through a block of cosmic swiss cheese. If that makes sense. You get lost and then found and then lost again and again. The book really takes you on a journey. A real ping pong adventure. At times it's like you're in the head of the author and then as the story continues, jumping back to the reader. The time and effort spent on it is undeniable. 5 stars. Two thumbs up. If people want something new and out of the box, Precious Metal delivers. I don't want to say too much because that is one people have to experience for themselves. I can see it being too out there for some, but you'd be missing out on some astounding comic craftsmanship. You've got to experience it from start to finish to get the maximum mind blurring effect.

YES! So glad you dug it. "Cosmic Swiss Cheese" might actually be the perfect description. Now, if you haven't already, dive head first into the celestial cheddar that is Little Bird!

This villain is purely made for Batman though since any other vigilante would have been like "oops" and moved one of those carefully placed pieces of rebar.

This was such a weird surprising week for comics but I'm glad it offered a spotlight to some books that color outside the lines a bit. It feels like the best books are the ones that take the biggest chances and present the most unique work.

Exactly! It seems so short sighted to keep the current solution in place for this emotional kaiju artist. But that's also what makes that book so cool is that the super powered beings are so imperfect.

I've learned with Ewing's Thor to keep my expectations in check. The short leash is still fully intact.

Totally took me by surprise! Loved every page of that issue.

I'm very curious to hear your thoughts as this has turned out to be a divisive book. Very much love it or hate it. It's definitely in line with Gillen's other indie work though. Regarding the "fantasy" portion, I'll reserve a response until I know you're caught up.

I watched Batman TAS and Superman, but I aged out right as Justice League was kicking off. I'm gonna have to sit down and start watching... although now I might have to start at the end

@ haha I’m pretty sure I should have also aged out of it by then but I was still watching. It only works as a satisfying Batman ending if you liked Batman Beyond too, so it might not hit you the same way, but I loved it.

Oh dude, I loved Batman Beyond. Welp, I'm definitely rewatching the Bruce Timm DC cartoons now

@ Oh, nice! Then you could probably just go straight to the Epilogue episode of JLU and you’ll be able to appreciate it. Batman Beyond was canceled before it got a proper conclusion, and they kind of do a series finale for it in one relatively standalone JLU episode. It’s amazing how much they packed into just the one episode, and it makes for a great endpoint for people familiar with BTAS, TNBA, and Batman Beyond.

He'll never understand the plight of having a beautifully smooth scalp 😂

When I have a full run of DD from 168 through modern, I kind of need to keep getting them. A toddler could be the writer and I'd still buy each issue to keep my collection UTD. I know, I know, I'm part of the problem...

Not so much slept on as bruised and battered over kicking myself about not jumping on Black Hammer from the get go. It's one of many on my reading list. Safe to assume Spiral City was pretty great?

@9PanelGrid Just discovered your page. I dig your reviews. Black Hammer is amazing! There's several trades and omnibuses that collect the main series and it's many spin-offs.
