    I agree that we have a work life imbalance issue in this country. I don’t think all of it caused by the individual making poor decisions. I think part of it corporate abuse and lack of government protection for the working individual. I believe that is the root cause of what you described as well as runaway consumerism. Have you read about overshoot or degrowth? All the best to you on your continued life learning!

    this is really interesting im so glad you made this video. I work on a computer all day for 5 days a week. that combined with other life stress causes vision issues, like blurring, i notice it at the end of a long day working. to counter that, I have noticed that when i spend time in the mountains ( or just outdoors in general) i can feel that it helps relieve the stress in my eyes and that relieves mental stress for me. I have been telling my friends lately that I believe that simply going outdoors and looking at natural landscapes at far distances is very healing for us, especially those of us that live in an urban environment, I feel like they think im crazy or something but you've helped validate my thoughts. I think its more than just " getting out doors and disconnecting from the busy life we live, I think its something nuero-physical about what we are seeing with our eyes. anyways, thanks for sharing, Im going to try out some of these methods.

    I have been debating with myself whether to wear shorts or pants on my upcoming backpacking trip (I have OR Ferassi). I normally wear hiking shorts when hiking in the summer, but I am expecting bugs to be a bigger issue when hiking the CT from Silverton to Durango. Also, I am thinking of using a 3L poncho instead of my OR Helium rain jacket. It will look stupid, but it will protect my backpack as well as me. You did not mention gloves, which is where I am most likely to first feel cold. I will bring light wool gloves and waterproof gardneing gloves. I also will use a very light wool buff for wiping sweat, or added warmth, or added neck sun protection. Glad to see you are still posting.

    • @uwildburro
      @uwildburro 28 дней назад

      Yeah the running shorts are light and provide an alternate bottom if one gets wet, so I don’t mind carrying both. Andrew Skurka talks about ponchos in the book I mentioned in the description and ultimately went with the rain jacket; I’ve never tried it. Good point in the gloves and I’m going to try to find an insulated pair of rain gloves in town. Skurka uses these which I’ve tried with a thin liner. Thanks for watching! andrewskurka.com/review-showa-282-gloves-cold-wet-conditions/

    Just found your channel and am enjoying your content. Have you ever found yourself in a low sugar state? I tried the low fat diet but I was bicycling a lot and kept hitting the wall (bonking). The first time I almost blacked out as it came on so fast. Do to a cycling accident I’m trying backpacking while I’m off the bike. I’m thinking that maybe the caloric burn is lower than cycling and maybe low carb might work.

    • @uwildburro
      @uwildburro 28 дней назад

      I haven’t. I do still eat carbs, usually in the form of fresh fruit off-trail and dried fruit on it, usually dates. I’ve also intentionally been keeping my workout intensity low. Phil Maffetone talks about the need to replenish carbs during long duration, high intensity events like races and has some recipes for race drinks in his Big Book of Endurance Training

    It is called food insecurity. They could have food at home or at camp but have in the past gone hungry. They are afraid it will happen again. The government keeps many in poverty. Say I had four children and received food stamps. I have to stay poor to still get those food stamps. If I make simply one dollar too much I will be taken off food stamps 😮 Another thing is being on government welfare teaches our children that money does not stay in the bank. As soon as it drops into the account you take it out because if you have too much in there you get cut off from welfare😮 Basically if we try to save money or try to teach our children to save money... We simply can't do it in the banks. My children's account's cost against the family money 😮 Bottom line is poor people living in poverty have no real incentive to improve their family lives 😮 BTW I 59 and have five kids and seven grandchildren. For me making too much would have meant losing food stamps and medical. Find a way we can let our kids save money without it costing against the family and poverty wont be as prevalent as it is now 😮 I could talk about this in depth but you get the gist of what I was saying 😮

    • @uwildburro
      @uwildburro Месяц назад

      Thanks for sharing! The incentive structure definitely seems off there. This is a great example of a real issue that affects people’s lives that is rarely talked about by the media or our politicians

    *raising hand* 2 questions: 1. If bitcoin is a decentralized organization/program, and the current protocol is to top out at 21 million... since there's no direct regulation, could someone reprogram the system to increase bitcoin above 21 mil? 2. Would returning to the gold standard fix inflation? We would still rely on the Fed, but they wouldn't be able to increase money so arbitrarily.. right? Thanks for the econ lesson, and the shout out!

    • @uwildburro
      @uwildburro Месяц назад

      Thanks for raising your hand, Ms. Ulfers 😉 Those are two good questions: 1. Bitcoin is an open source software program and anyone can propose changes; however those changes need to be reviewed and approved by many knowledgeable and dedicated developers. Even then, new code changes have to be implemented by the miners and node operators, who can choose not to update to the latest version. So these three stakeholders (developers, miners, node operators) can keep each other in check and prevent unwanted changes. Long article on the topic if you’re interested bitcoinmagazine.com/technical/the-battle-for-p2sh-the-untold-story-of-the-first-bitcoin-war 2. Yes in theory going back to the gold standard would fix inflation because only a small amount of new gold is mined each year. Whether this is practically possible is the big question since the US government is so dependent on issuing and often buying its own debt (the Fed is one of the largest holders of govt debt). So major changes would be needed. Thanks for watching!!!
