Hi Michael! I don’t know the weight but it was light enough for me to carry, so it wasn’t heavy. Also Spirit has no mention of a weight limit for personal items (not that I have seen anyway). Bringing both a book and an iPad suited my needs for my trip and though it may not fit your version of minimalism, it fits into mine. Thanks for watching!

There is no such thing as "bringing an ipad is not minimalist" Same goes for weight. Generally the concept of minimalism is bringing the essentials. Minimalist in this case is packing a fairly small backpack with the essentials they need to have an enjoyable 4 night trip. The number of items itself does not define what is minimal. If these boundaries work for you, great! But don't say that Annabel's packing is not minimalist just because she didn't pack to your personal rules.

@@MinimallyAnnabel I appreciate it. Many people seem to confuse minimalism with the number of items rather than “essential” items. Otherwise you could claim that you only need a spare pair of underwear and a pet rock as it’s only two items but that wouldn’t be a very nice 4 night trip. It’s important to keep in mind that minimalism is more about decluttering and being mindful than it is about number of possessions. For me the mindfulness comes from only carrying one smaller bag. Not having to check a bag and be able to take it with me on day trips without hindering mobility is what brings me joy as I can fully focus on the trip itself and just remove those potential issues altogether. Glad you have a system that works for you and I really enjoy watching these videos to see how others do it. Keep up the good work!

After carrying a 12 pound backpack 500 miles walking across Spain last year, I reassessed what I really needed to meet my needs. That is why I took a 7 pound pack (with sleeping bag) for my latest Camino across Portugal and Spain. Although I understand having to take equipment to work like an iPad or computer, it adds too much weight for me. I feel spoiled if I add a deck of cards. But I am older and want to be kind to my body and being retired I don’t need to worry about work. And I have no desire to be a “digital nomad”.

Hi Carla! My nano speedy has held up really well, I have not had any issues with the zipper fraying at all. My bag still looks excellent and I use it most days for running errands. I really love my nano speedy 😅 Hope that helps! 🫶🏼

Hi! Honestly, if it’s raining heavily outside I would not take it with me, but if it begins to rain after I have left the house I always have an umbrella in my car. It’s made of LV’s empreinte leather which is very durable, but the bag is not waterproof. In light rain it fairs just fine, I just wipe it down with a paper towel or cloth. 🫶🏼

Hi! Honestly, they’re about the same. Your clothes will tend to get wrinkled when packing tightly, to minimize the wrinkling I try to pack my clothes flat and not rolled. I stay in places that usually have an iron available and I always hang up my clothes when I arrive at my accommodation to air out any creases. Hope that helps! 🫶🏼

Hi! Thank you, I’m glad you like my video. It is a bit more difficult when the weather is colder, but I just wear my heavier clothes when I travel. I have a trip back home to London in November and plan on packing with a backpack only. As for the nose strips, they help open my nostrils to enable me to breathe better when I sleep. I only know it works because my husband says I snore less with them on! 😂 Thanks for watching 🫶🏼

@@MinimallyAnnabel I was hoping you would say that you wake up much better and felt you slept well but noise reduction is also a plus I guess 🙃I plan to have a week trip to Germany next week and normally I would travel with TNF Borealis or an Osprey porter but I plan to buy a Bass guitar and some gifts so I will have a small trolly with me, and the clothes I'll bring will pad the bass guitar case and gifts will go in that trolly. Hope it'll go well 😅

@@MinimallyAnnabel what I mean is an extra pad, I also have the pads from kanken, but they’re bad, so I bought soft ones to put on top of those. They cost like 6 dlls and can be use in all kind of bags for extra cushioning.

Hi Kristen! I tend to look for books that have won awards in the library (Gilead won the Pulitzer Prize in 2005) and I would say whilst I was intrigued by the themes in this book, it did take me a while to get through it. It’s thoughtful and beautifully written, though slow and with no plot. 🫶🏼

Hi Helen! Yes, I did love using the vacuum bags! They are amazing for longer trips, in future I would buy myself better quality ones (mine broke on the trip!) or possibly pack an extra one. I also love using my packing cubes and when packed correctly, they can also store a lot of clothes as well. And same for me also when it comes to a small crossbody purse, never had a problem with it being classed as an “extra item” too. Thank you for your comment and for watching! 🫶🏼

I've done this before and it takes some planning and getting used to, but it's totally doable! The hardest part space-wise is the extra pair of shoes (or hiking boots in this case)... for those trips I use a slightly higher backpack that is more carry-on size. The rest is all about layering and picking the right fabrics.

My husband & I travel with Kånken Nr 2’s now & love them. We travel to Alaska usually in winter. One year we took his Sorels & my winter boots in larger bags but only used them once - so we prefer the Kånkens & hiking boots with thicker socks & wool insoles. Then we wear/carry our outer layers. I don’t even bring down anything - I have a an old Eddie Bauer insulated vest, a handknit (not bulky/just fingering weight) cardigan and a wind & waterproof shell. Scarf hat & mittens in coat pockets. And I usually stuff them into a thin packable bag and put them in the overhead for the flight. Then I pack 2 cotton long slvs and 1 wool, extra trousers & I try to buy thin black that work for any restaurant & pair of windpants for anything outdoorsy. My regular wool winter socks which are a medium weight. And we use rubber soled slipper socks on the plane & nice to have for house/hotel. And we usually travel for two weeks. The one thing we do bring is an empty PC bag in the laptop pocket and use it for souvenirs - but we usually travel Alaska <> Europe & can have two bags on our ticket. We like Icelandair. And lightweight hiking channels have great info about how to layer up with light layers and be quite warm. I was a student in Fairbanks & the daily highs were -10 to -15 F and I used to wear regular jeans/tees, wool socks, hiking boots, fleece and windproof shell with scarf hat mittens most days… so thick layers are often too hot & you sweat and that is when you get cold. So lightweight one bag travel, underseat, and looking «classic» in black now that I am in my 50s is absolutely possible. I prefer cotton, linen & merino or lambswool as they breathe. I overheat in silk but am menopausal. I usually buy trousers that are a thinner more tech fabric but dress up/down, usually regular streetwear & not «outdoorsy» but can be worn in many settings. Hi! In terms of their displays I can see why an e-reader is not classed as screen time, but for me it’s also about getting away from electronics completely too. And yes, we purposely choose smaller paperback books over longer novels when we travel to save on weight! 😅 Sometimes we will be mid way through a longer book but we leave it at home and have a different one for travel, but we’re okay with that! Hi! Haha it’s actually not enough for my entire body and face either 😅, but I only need a pea sized amount for my face (as I have oily skin). Then I use it for my neck, knees and elbows (again, I don’t need to use a lot here). For the rest of my body I just use the lotion provided at the hotel. I actually do use a lot of the hotel products, just not the shampoo and conditioner. I also drink a lot of water to stay hydrated. Thanks for watching! 🫶🏼

It’s so freeing and our favorite way to travel, we cannot imagine traveling with a suitcase anymore. @@MinimallyAnnabel It is really great. In NYC for instance I stayed in 3 different hotels (different areas of Manhatham). Moving from one another was a brize. No problem at all. The happiest teavellers travel light! Btw, my backpack is a old and good TNF 28 liters Boreallis. Almost 20 years of hash use. Still holding very well.
