Is that food grade safe?
Is unused metal that was leftovers from project long ago. After building I seasoned it. (Brought it up to temp)
The TimberKing seems like the most comparable competition. I'm sure you considered it, too. What made you decide on the Cooks over the TimberKing?
I did consider, but some things really made it easy for me 1- the cooks folks was not ashamed of sharing their faith in their videos. 2- they are extremely knowledgeable and seemed to truly want to help people. Even if you have a competitive mill. 3- all of the engineering they have put into the mills really made a lot of sense to me, having a strong mechanical background myself. (Steel wheels ground to tights tolerances)
And one more question. You say you like the idea of a hydraulic sawmill. What advantages appeal to you? Mainly just being able to manipulate the logs with less physical involvement? Anything else notable?
Efficiency mainly, with hydraulic mills so much manual labor is eliminated. Which obviously speeds things up a lot. But for me and use here on the farm, I cannot justify additional cost.
I just discovered your channel, have watched multiple videos, and have very much appreciated them all. Thank you! A couple questions: What about using water as a lubricant do you not like? And approximately how big a log can you clamp with the Cook's clamping system?
Hope you find something helpful on our channel! Water as a lube works ok, however diesel fuel prevents the pitch build up much better in my opinion. Doesn’t require near as much. And to me it doesn’t make sense knowing I want dried lumber eventually and if use water it requires a significant amount, so just adding moisture to your lumber every pass. Not to mention up here in Ohio you have to use some kind of antifreeze. Clampable log size?, I am guessing 26-28 maybe?
@@gansonsonthehill I've found so much helpful on your channel! Thanks very much!
Did you make your own custom door? It's a very nice looking door either way.
No, mention the door in a different video. It was purchased at a local antique shop. Thanks for watching!
I thought smoke goes UP!?
Well….. lol, in an airtight environment it can be directed. Theoretically the heat and smoke enters cabinet high, is pulled down over meat and exits bottom of cabinet because it is the only way to exit. Making for a more consistent temp inside top to bottom.
@@gansonsonthehill That makes sense. I hope it works well for you. Happy cookin'
Looks great, im a welder/fabricator so i can truly appreciate the work you have put in
Thanks, anxious to do a test cook with it!
Nice job! That baby looks like it will last 10 times longer than a store bought unit. Nice and heavy build
Thanks!
How are they holding up? They look great.
Very good, still look like they did the day I finished them. Thanks for watching!
@@gansonsonthehill I've considered them but in the end I'm more into wood.
Thank you for sharing your milling experience with us!!! I hope to have a mill of my own some day. Overriding the operator presence switch works GREAT until............something goes wrong. I understand that it frees you up to do other stuff while continuing to saw, but I'm concerned for your safety and potential damage to the mill. Have fun, play safe, and keep on sawing. 🙂
Where was your put in and take out?
Done this a couple times. Both times put in was at point where clear creek enters Hocking. First time took out at a friend’s campsite at mouth of Ohio. Second time took out at Coolville state ramp
You got my tailgate working again. Thank you sir!
Great! Glad to hear. They are recalled now but parts not available. Haven’t had any trouble with mine since I posted the video. Thanks for watching!
I’m trying to watch Joel Salatin to learn more about rotational grazing with sheep, chickens, turkey, and rabbits. I want a meat cow, but I’m on 3 acres.
Nice work! Will have plenty for the cows come winter
Cute!
Nice! You got the family portrait. Glad the little one seems to be doing good
Machine workin good nice
Ingenious. Good thinking
Thank you for this! My problem was the switch kept activating on and off. Once I cleaned it and used the dielectric grease. It works normally. Of course, there is now a general recall.
Hope it helped! Yes there is a recall now, however my notice said parts are not currently available. Although I haven’t had any further issues since I made this repair. Thanks for watching!
Very cool 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I surprised cooks puts that big pulley that your using to fine tune the height where it is or with no guard that belt will lop a finger off real quick
Definitely have to pay attention! Thanks for watching!

Thx for sharing
Hey, I’ve been there! 😊
Moo gotta love it
Cool
I've noticed the same "ringing" noise on my MP32 from sawdust on the wheels. I've been looking for but, haven't found yet, a brush, kinda like a fingernail brush to mount so that it cleans the wheels continually in addition to the felts for each wheel. It's good to see real life Cook's video's. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! I used very fine emery cloth and cleaned the small amounts of surface rust spots that was on the wheels and that helped a lot. Sawdust doesn’t seem to “stick” to the wheels now. I’ve learned to let it run a few minutes before shutting down for any length of time and it gives the wheels a nice coat of fuel on them and minimizes any rust developing.
I sure like the rebar rails... does it feel pretty solid and secure?
Yeah, they have a little flex but not much. They are #6 bars so 3/4”
I need some advice on a project that I'm going to be getting into. I would sure like to talk some things over with you brother.
Gladly help if I can
@@gansonsonthehill I have a property near South Perry in the Hocking Hills area and would like to put up a small place like yours. I would like to get some ideas on things that I'm interested in doing. How close is your place to South Perry?

I love the cabin sir... Keep them videos coming and keep growing that channel.
Awesome video... Keep them coming.
Thanks! Will do!
Have you ever felt you would benefit if the mill had a 3rd log stop or 3rd log dog? Also, do you think the mill would be more stable with 2 more pair of jacks - cutting the span between jacks down to 5 ft? With the Timber King, I was planning to set the mill on 6x6 piers and beams, but that would be difficult with a 20-ft welded deck. Trailer is probably the way to go with the 20+ ft Cooks. Regarding the trailer, did it feel risky pulling long distance with 1 axle? A blowout might be a serious problem at speed.
I will do my best to answer each question, give my opinions 3rd log stop, there is work around but sawing anything under 8’6” it would be very helpful to have 3rd log stop I have sawn some very large oak on mine, very heavy, and mill was stable. Don’t know that adding more leveling jacks would make enough difference to justify. I believe timber kings decks are welded as well. Not sure what you mean “would be difficult with 20’ welded deck” I pulled mine to central ohio from cooks facility. No issue at all, most of the way is 70mph speed limits and it done well at those speeds (plus a little 😂)
Great video - Thanks!. I was going down the Timber King road, but have started studying Cooks. They're a lot closer to me here in north Georgia. I would be buying the longer mill too - timber frame barn in my future!
Thanks for watching! Timber King makes good mills as well, I don’t have any experience with them. Good luck on your timber frame build!!
Are y'all planing on moving to the cabin full time? That's where i would be.
No, not quite enough square footage for the family.
I love all of that exposed wood. How much $$$ do you think you got in the shell of cabin with metal roof and windows?
Surprisingly not as much as one would think. Just material costs, majority of labor was myself. Had a logger bring in most of the logs, only sawed a few off the farm.
Just found your channel... keep the cool vids coming.
Thanks for watching!
Hello from Nova Scotia. I think your videos and channel are going to do well, you seem honest and straight forward, without the B.S. My Woodland Mills has the stainless bunk caps as well, but I'd sure like that MP32 set up if the truth were told. I wonder why the blades don't seem to discolor the boards the way the clamps do? Maybe just not contacting long enough???
Thanks for watching and the encouragement! As far as the blades not staining white oak, if blade alignment is set properly, teeth on blade are set proper the only part of the blade that contacts wood is the tip of tooth. And the wood it touches is turned to sawdust and taken away. Also blade isn’t at any one spot for for more than milliseconds. Just my uneducated theory!
My 2022 2500 the tono cover stoped from droping tailgate. Was click click click. Random. Now i know how to fix.thanks.still under warrenty tho.
Pretty easy fix, thanks for watching!
I ordered my Cook's MP-32 almost a year ago after spending a couple of years researching and comparing various mills on the market. As you stated the Cook's mill is not the cheapest mill out there. However, I think it is very competitively priced. I liked the design simplicity and the heavy-duty fabrication. My mill will not be ready until late June of 2024. They told me that upfront. Wood Miser had a similar wait period as did some of the other manufacturers. The delays are primarily due to demand and supply/labor issues. The people at Cook's seemed genuinely interested in my business. I can't say that for all of the manufacturers I talked to. I look forward to picking my mill up in Alabama this summer and putting it to use. Your video confirmed my research and choice. Thanks for posting. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thanks for watching! I am confident you will enjoy your new mill! Great folks down there, very helpful. These mills are built rock solid.
I like that saw.
Thanks!
I've seen 12 v hydro pumps aded to these mills with a claw type turner. They work better than winch operated claw turners. That's what I'm planning to do on my cooks mill. Awesome video
Yeah, sure I will add something in the future. Thanks for watching!
That’s a great video on the cooks and you did a-good job of of why I picked the cooks over the big cheap made woody mizer god bless y’all
Thanks for watching
New sub from Nova Scotia...hello. I love your set up, the mill is a beast. If you haven't already, I for one would like to see a 'How my MP32 is spec'd out' video. Keep the content coming, and thanks.
Thanks for subscribing!!
Hey. New subscriber . Will you show the stack of cut boards . Do you paint the ends from checking ? Thanks. Craig. Pa.
Thanks for subscribing! This stack is in drying pile. Will try to remember in future to show lumber stack. As far as painting the ends, I did nothing on these, they was pre cut by others, 9’6”” inches and the like. So checking on ends will be cut out later.
Good afternoon my friend, I just started watching your channel and I have a few things I would like to mention, you need a mic on your shirt because when you walk away from the camera, I can’t hear what you’re saying, we also like to see what the inside of the log looks like the pattern of the wood, etc. Otherwise you’re doing a good job keep up the good work. Stay safe God bless you and the family🇨🇦✌️
Appreciate the feedback! And you are correct, I do/will pick up a mic. Thanks for watching!
That's an awesome splitter you designed and built, and from bits and pieces... I am thoroughly impressed. 👍
Thanks, was a fun project to build.
Why did you quit firewood heating ??
Purchased an adjoining piece of property that had a gas well, heat with natural gas now. Thanks for watching!
@@gansonsonthehill yes I know my daughter gets free natural gas from there wells in Oklahoma
