It's finally time to discuss the top deck(?) of 2004, Magma Spirit! Team Magma's Groudon is supported by a fantastic Magma engine that flips this slow, bulky, basic into a speedy powerhouse.
TCG History: Gardevoir

A look at each Gardevoir card printed in the mainline TCG. Easily one of the best Mons in the game, across printings, in addition to having some beautiful artworks along the way.
Gardevoir ex: ex Era 2004

One of the top decks in the 2004 season, the combo of Psy Shadow Gardevoir and Gardevoir ex was amazing. Modal attacks that could force your opponent into varying defensive stances, and the ability to easily adapt across play styles, made this a true meta-contender.

MGMD: ex Era 2004

Mewtwo ex, Gorebyss, Magneton, and Delcatty join forces to slap around a bunch of energy and deal big damage at a low cost. An amazing momentum-builder, but how does it stack up to the other high-power contenders in this format?

Team Magma vs Team Aqua: Themes and Archetypes On-Point

Turns out this set doesn't have much to talk about in terms of underrated cards. Instead, let's celebrate how well this set nailed its themes and the creation of the 'Team Engine'.
Wailord: ex Era 2004

200 HP is quite a lot for a Stage 1 Pokemon. AND it can heal? AND it has evasion? You're in for a long game when you sit down with this beast.

Time for ex Dragon! In this series we look at the cards that are overlooked in terms of playability and utility. What cards make this list? Watch and find out, ya goose.

As ago as 2004 gets, hit for a consistent 80 damage each turn, taking advantage of a fully colorless attack cost.
Medicham/Lanturn: ex Era 2004

Two mons that can swing hard back-to-back. Lantern and Medicham snowball into one another by recycling energy and setting for a series of one-two punches.
TCG History: Swampert

A look at the relatively few Swampert cards printed on the mainline TCG. As always, we discuss playability, aesthetics, and overall theming.

This era's Rain Dance iteration. How does it stack up against the rest of the format? Yes, I positioned the word 'FLOOD' to look like ta-tas in the thumbnail.

Can't you only bench a pokemon off of Maxie if it's in your hand or discard pile? I'm pretty sure the Team Aqua equivalent is the one that searches the deck.
my first real deck XD, but it was born because I wanted to show everyone my foil Flareon/Jolteon/Vaperon set ahah. It never worked as well as I hoped, though.
I remember a guy had something similar, the first time I challenged him I thought "ah what a piece of shit Dodrio"...then he destroyed me without mercy. But he had Dodrio + Tauros + Rapidash.
My best friend used to play this deck as a kid, but instead of using Psycho pokemon he had Scyter as a beater and also used Chansey to have even more stall-potential and eventually KO all pokemon with 80HP or less. In the latest versions he also had Muk to block all pokemon powers.
There was a little girl at school who had this exact deck...one of only two people in the entire school who owned Articuno.
what a memory unlocker! In elementary school all the boys and girls played pokemon... My deck was like this, but I also had Hitmonchan as a beater and Aerodactyl for the passive (since many kids used Venosaur+Exeggutor or Blastoise). 0 double-energy, I was too afraid of energy removal.
Love these TCG History videos. If you still do request, would you cover latios and/or latias? They are my favorite legendaries and I have fond memories playing their exs from dragon.
👀
Dark Jolteon was a menace.
i collect misty cards, this video is exactly what i was looking for
Jungle Snorlax would be right at home in this deck. -Can use psychic energy -Can't be put to sleep -If the paralyze coin flip fails, opponent still most likely has to deal with sleep. -Psychic resist and 1st turn stall potential to build your bench.
You're crazy if you think I'm accepting a challenge with a Jiggly or Wiggly on your bench. Go ahead and draw your 2 cards lol
2:23 Ever tried Raichu or Lugia Neo Revelations, Light Machamp or Light Nine3 for example?
I love this type of videos. Lot of thanks for your vids, also greetings from Czech Reepublic :)
@shuckletcg Any reason in particular why you used Pokémon Breeder in this deck when you haven't used it as much in other decks and even mentioned early in the series that you have time to evolve all the way up manually in this format? Was there something unusual about this deck?
Can u do vid on 3 leg dogs from gen 2. As well as their paradox counter parts. Thx
Mine spoke in English, good memories from Christmas 1999. I got that Meowth, Donkey Kong 64, and the Green Transparent N64 Controller under that tree… 🥹🥹
9:11 Boy oh boy, were you missing out on Buried Fossil when you built your Aerodactyl decks for this format. A "fossil" that can be searched out with Pokémon Trader, Pokémon Fan Club, and even Dark Dragonite? And which boasts a Poké-Power for searching out your Aerodactyl? So what if it's worth a prize card?
Honestly, since Base Set Charizard would discard both the boost energy and the other energy card anyways, the Expedition Charizard seems like an objective improvement for the most part. Double tails wouldn't penalize you, and double heads would reward you by letting you keep the non-boost Energy.
Why not Focus Sash instead of Good Manners ? Lugia can survive longer in a bad spot.
22 energies, that is insane
no double colorless energy ?
Dive Bomb is just garbage. Even with using Welder and Fire Crystal from Sun and Moon era...the coin toss just is too risky and 90HP is also garbage.
Incredible Gyarados artwork for a old card. Very Menacing.
Is Wigglytuff possibly a good alternative to the Goldeen and Seaking ?
Finally, someone who can say “Raikou” correctly. Fat like for you. In fact, I’m telling all my friends to like this vid.
i've seen decks use fossil alakazam and chansey instead of exeggutor line and scyther and no bill's
@shuckletcg You know how Dark Vileplume's purpose in Donphan in Rocket-Legendary Collection was to protect your Donphan from Double Gust? Couldn't you use Noctowl for that in this format? I mean, it even has free retreat, so you could use it to tank a 50-damage-or-less attack if you really can't afford the 25% chance of a Focus Banded Baby Pokémon getting Knocked Out (and hey, you can actually play Focus Band with Noctowl!). The big disadvantage would be no Pichu, of course, but you could still use Elekid for chip damage if the benefits of added security against Double Gust outweighed the benefits of spread. What music piece is this, by the way? 10:26 Shuckle: "You want to keep your opponent off-balance." Me: "Like the dabbing Sentret?"
Hi, is there anywhere in Asia or Australia where I can play the older formats? I’m looking for places to play them, just started collecting Pokémon cards but wotc ones
Remember, if Charge Up Eevee Charges Up with a Darkness Energy, it will take 20 damage from the Energy alone before it evolves, so it might not always be safe.
some type of drafting service online would easily make this game so popular! i hope one day i can try it out!
As a yugioh player, its funny that pokemon also has a meta BLS like yugioh.
@shuckletcg Light Golduck isn't going to be strong in every matchup, but I think I have a solution: Couldn't you mix in some Aquapolis Golduck to help you deal with decks that don't run a lot of Special Energy? You'd still be only doing 30 damage either way, but the Status Conditions will give you more chances to do that 30 damage. Better still, if you confuse the Defending Pokémon, unless your opponent has Double Gust, they are forced to make a choice between three evils: Retreat out of Confusion, and either waste Energy or damage one of their other Pokémon; attack through Confusion and damage their Active Pokémon; or leave that Pokémon in the Active and try to get Double Gust before it gets Knocked Out.
What do you think are the best cards to have in a WOTC cube, video idea perhaps?
Wait, Pokémon Breeder Fields isn't a stadium...
@@Charmaster04 Correct lol. This actually came up during a match I was playing where I left the card on the table after using. That’s what I get for not fully reading the card.
Another idea; you could add Buried Fossil to have a fossil that's searchable with your four copies of Pokémon Fan Club and can search your Aerodactyl out of the deck to get a more consistent alternative to Fossil Egg. You could probably even cut the package down from 3 Aerodactyl and 4 Fossil Egg to 2 Aerodactyl and 2 Buried Fossil, giving yourself a whopping three extra slots to do what you like with. The downside? If Aerodactyl gets Double Gust KOed, you can't get a new one into play that same turn. Great deck profile, by the way. I'm trying to help the Holon Phantom, one of your fellow guests on episode six of Ruby Retro's history series, find new decks he might want to build in Neo-Skyridge, and I think I'll be suggesting that he try Politoed now. Hope I can find some more gems.
I've found Magmar FS a better partner than Electabuzz. Pluspowers don't really help as Hitmonchan/Machop are really the only attackers that benefit from it. From my own experience I've found Mewtwo/Magmar/Muk the best way to run Haymaker. Also, when you run Mewtwo there's no reason not to max out on Super/Energy Removal cards, and you certainly want to add in Item Finder to maximize their use even more.
Have you ever built a base-ereader lanturn shining raichu deck? Ive been tinkering with one using a expedition venusaur engine, but struggling
Whoever is here in 2024,. know that this deck is not good in the format now. If you want a go fast Wigg deck, play Wigg/Rapidash it's the most degenerate deck in the meta.
What would you change in a rocket on format?
My favorite Pokemon format of all time After that 2009-2010 And then base fossil
Hell yeah 😎
Great format
2004-2008 was my favorite era❤
Would a eeveetron with ho oh from neo revelation work? In base neo format
@@briansumner123 it’s a fun idea. I’ve tried to make that rainbow deck a few times and the ho-oh isn’t really worth the investment that it calls for. Even with gold berry to back it up.
Wigglytuff also likes Clefairy Doll, so Vending Hypno would play nice with it. Call that archetype “WaveMaster”
I don’t think 15/3 is a bad format at all. It solves a lot of base-fossil issues
15/3 is way more fun than base fossil .
We want more videos of base neo decks please!!! Great Job!
So no Grass Energy for Belossom? Then there is no way to build up a solar beam....
