    You need a modern metal detector. It finds gold. Scan gold flakes and/or nuggets to see and hear how different size samples of gold gives you different codes. Even scan a pile of gold to see how more gold makes the machine respond.

      @@ErnieDionnenot that one but I have been to other mines. One time I found 4 ounces of gold hidden just 4 inches deep in the wall. They had no clue the quartz vein was broken and started again. They missed it and didn’t know it was there. Then I found over 9 more ounces another 7 inches deeper. The mine looked cleaned out. Turns out more is there just under the surface. So take your detector with you ALWAYS.

    • @ErnieDionne
      @ErnieDionne День назад

      @ That is great! The gold here is predominantly micro gold. Metal detectors do not pick up micro gold or placer gold. The history of mining here at the Comstock Lode consists of crushing the ore and then removing the gold using the cyanide process. If you watch my videos on smelting you will see that there are no gold nuggets big enough for the detector to pick up. It’s all micro gold. Yes, there are a lot of mines where a detector will pick up flakes and nuggets within a wall. That’s the reason why we take samples back to the mill and see if there are any values in it. If there are we go back to that location. If can recommend a detector that can scan and pick up micro and placer gold I will check it out and if it’s affordable I’ll get one. I appreciate your insight and hopefully one day I will find a vein with flakes and nuggets.

    Is there silver chloride in any of your ore? If yes, wouldn’t you lose all of it by washing it?

    • @ErnieDionne
      @ErnieDionne 2 дня назад

      @@Dr.BG_23 Hi there! That’s a great question! From my experience from washing most ore and some from not washing it is that a majority of my beads are Electrum from both process. Here at the Comstock Lode in Virginia City, Nevada, the lode consists of both gold and silver. I know I lose some material because it is super fine, but the percentage of what I truly lose I’m not sure. What I have learned about the loss is that I need to upgrade my washing process. In time I will figure it out. I’m sure I’ll need to wait for better weather to upgrade my sluicing process. Thank you for the great question and for being here. Have a safe and Happy New Year 💪🏻

    You would know where the concentrated higher grade gold is located in this drift mine by learning how to apply physics in dowsing for sought elements. In the 1970's my father and I reverse engineered the physics involved in dowsing, which are the same physics that energizes the alarm on electronic metal detectors. Then we invented the modern light weight ball bearing dowsing rod for locating our old core-drill on the exact center of gold and silver veins that are buried under 200 feet of glacier rock and till, with working out perfectly for us. I wrote the book to teach the world how to apply physics in dowsing for sought elements. My book: The Art of Dowsing - Separating Science from Superstition ($14.95), by Michael Fercik, explains all the physics involved in dowsing and teaches how to build the modern light weight ball bearing dowsing rod, which is the only dowsing rod that accurately gauges the element being dowsed by pitting the energy of gravity against the energizing of the pure one-tenth ounce dowsing rod load that is tapped onto the ELENATED acetylene welding rod at five inches from the hub's shaft, which is free spinning on ball bearings. This precisely gauges the dowsing of all edges, exact center, depth buried with angle of deposition, and most important is grading or deciphering the amount of the dowsed element that is contained in the elemental mass that is being dowsed. Anybody can become a professional dowser by practicing and mastering the dowsing lessons that are taught in my book. I hope dowsing enriches your life intellectually and financially.

      @ErnieDionne 4 дня назад

      @@grantlucas2012 Thank you Grant. Here’s a question I’m looking for an answer? I hope you have some insight for me. By using less Potassium Nitrate will it cause the lead prill to be smaller? In my last two smelts, one lead prill weighed 2 grams, the last one weighed less than 1 gram? I normally use 40g of Potassium Nitrate per 100 grams of concentrate and my lead prills would normally weigh between 8g - 12g. The lead prill that weighed 2g I used 20g of Potassium Nitrate, the prill that weighed less than 1g I used 16g of Potassium Nitrate. The reason why I cut down the amount of Potassium Nitrate was to not over oxidize the concentrate. So it seems my lead prills are smaller due to less Potassium Nitrate being used. I know I need to run a test on that, but I was hoping you might have an answer for me. Also, in a text message to me, it was brought up that I may want to use less borax. Would you have any thoughts on this? Thanks Grant, I’ll chat with you later 🤗

      @@gitnitdun Very nice JB. Yesterday I was out getting some content for some episodes. My truck was in 4x4, I slid off a dirt road and got stuck in a small ditch. I had to walk up the mt. dirt road about a mile and got a ride home from my son. We got the truck out this morning🤣. Be careful out there 💪🏻

    What a great video. In 200 years, history classes will be referencing the Ernie Archive. It looked like a great day out.

      @ErnieDionne - thanks for the well wishes. Mrs. Mahoney Mine has given me strict orders not to move off of the couch today. We are both pretty sick.

    Great video Ernie! Did you get any samples of placer deposits to check? I know Jeff Williams did a video or two back in the day about placer deposits at Gold Canyon in the washes. If I was there, i would definitely be sampling! Good gold hunting! Take care.

      @@SilvasSmallMining Hi Bob, I didn’t take the time to take any samples the last two times I was there. Let me know if you want to go and if you like I can join you. Take care, may you and your family have a Merry and Blessed Christmas.

    Very interesting to see the changes. Where is the water? I definitely would love to dig around there.

      @@jamesculver829 Hi JC, Gold Canyon Creek is about 800 ft down past the dam. The ravine has a natural runoff from the rain and snow and dries when the rain stops and the snow melts. The creek is seasonal and is supplied by the rain and snow up in Virginia City. Some individuals believe there is ground water that surfaces early in the morning on the west side of the creek. I tend to believe them as there is water in the morning but not there in the afternoon. It’s pretty fun to dig around there but it’s mainly on private property. Have a Merry Christmas JC.

    Beautiful scenery! I'm so glad you take us your tours of the historic goldfields. If you're ever down my way, I would be glad to tour you around some of our claims in the Randsburg mining district. As my guest, you could prospect if you wanted and make an episode for your channel. Cheers mate!
