Updated video using black shoe polish as an ink wash for Thunder Road Vendetta cars.
This video shows how to apply Kiwi liquid black shoe polish as an ink wash to the cars that come in the board game Thunder Road Vendetta. It also shows how to clean up the cars afterwards using rubbing alcohol.
The ink wash is easy to apply and the brushes can be cleaned with water.
This video shows more detail than the older video I had posted a while back.

Playing the Coconuts game using dice
Просмотров 1742 года назад
In this video I show how to play a variant of the coconuts board game using dice instead of the coconuts that come with the game. We use two complete copies of the game in order to have up to eight players play the game at one time. It also requires different colors of dice for each player. Since all players shoot their dice at the same time, games are very quick and fun. Thanks for watching!

Catacombs of Karak Alternate Rules

This video shows alternate rules we use for the board game Catacombs of Karak produced by Outset Media Games. These rules allow for more than five players (if you purchase two copies of the game) and the game move much faster because all players move and roll at the same time. A normal five player game can take up to 90 minutes. With these rules, the same game can be played in 30 minutes. These...

    Definitely not acceptable packaging for a premium board. It should have been returned or a minimum 50% discount. Makes me wonder what they were thinking packaging it so cheaply and without protection for the vulnerable edges.

    Hi, thx for the video! I used your technique and it works like a charm, however I'm concerned as it seems like it takes a long time to dry. Can you tell me how much time you waited roughly before applying varnish? Maybe the liquid shoe shine I used is a different formula? : /

    • @hirstsgames2974
      @hirstsgames2974 5 месяцев назад

      I used Kiwi liquid shoe polish and it dried for me in about 15 minutes. Even if it's not completely dry, you can still use rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad to clean the car up and the polish will still stay in the cracks. I never did end up applying any type of sealer on them.

  • @YanniCooper
    @YanniCooper 7 месяцев назад

    I've built a similar board using the Hirst Arts molds. I love the idea of using traffic cones as save spots. For cards, I just made cards myself and put them in magic card sleeves w/ trash magic cards behind them. What did you use for the lasers? I used red yarn, but I like the clean look of your lasers a lot.

      I use florescent red duct tape cut into thin strips. This sticks down really well and you peel it up and throw it away when the game is done.

    Great review! Maybe ordering from them, but by now (Jan 2024) I would hope they would have solved their packaging problems. Whether it's $150 or $450, it's a piece of wood, and enough packing material to assure *intact* delivery should only be a few dollars.

    Thank you for this tutorial! After they are dried, how easily does the shoe polish come off? And will it leave residue on your fingers? Thank you for your time!

    • @hirstarts8327
      @hirstarts8327 7 месяцев назад

      After it dries, the shoe polish holds up very well and does not come off unless you use alcohol or some kind of solvent. It actually holds up better than using acrylic paint on a plastic miniature. I don't show it in the video but alcohol cleans up the car very nicely afterwards and you don't have to worry about if you got the wash a bit too dark. I would wear some plastic gloves because it will stain your fingers.

    Question for a seasoned RoboRally player: Any reason why you wouldn't just use the Radio Tower token as a Start player token and pass it clockwise at the end of each round (and resolve card interactions based on turn order instead of numbers)? Also, if you had a set of custom poker card decks for each player, would you keep the old damage system (locking cards with a missed turn to reset) or incorporate the new damage system (that adds SPAM cards)?

    • @hirstsgames2974
      @hirstsgames2974 Год назад

      As for your first question, yes you could do this and none of the cards need to have any priority numbers at all. The downside is that players will always know who is going to move first which could make the game a bit too predictable. If you know the guy to your right is always moving his bot first, you could just tail him knowing that if he gets in your way you will just push him. If there was a possibility of you moving first, you might accidentally move in front of him which could mess up your whole turn. Trying to guess who will move first is part of the fun. I still prefer the old damage system that locks the cards if you take too much damage..

    • @hirstsgames2974

      3D printing is great when you need a few specialized pieces. But for the mass production of hundreds of floor tiles and wall blocks, molds are still the fastest and most economic way to do that.

    Okay, officially green with envy just looking at this board :-) I've been using old cardboard sets from way back in the 1990's for my games, as they are easier to store, but would love to make something like this for my generic sci-fi games, not just Space Hulk :-)

    That looks awesome. Wonder what would happen if you randomized the board setup, perhaps with dice rolls or just have the players go back and forth adding terrain pieces. If you use the idea, I would love to see a video of the game start to finish. Love the terrain and love the guys' boisteriousness! The lone marine squeaking off the board after two melee attacks dodged was epic!

    • @hirstsgames2974
      @hirstsgames2974 2 года назад

      I have found that with the Space Hulk game, it's fairly tricky to make a good balanced board layout. If the objective takes too many turns to reach or if there are too many corners with no way to do double overwatch, the game is nearly impossible for the marines. I always set up a test board and play through it several times by myself, making changes after every play until I can get a good balanced board. I really see no way to have randomized board sections work for a good close game. Thanks for the idea anyway.
