10 - Assaulting a DropPort - Mechwarrior 5 Clans
This session has some mic issues, so apologies for any garbled bits.
With word of Hohiro Kurita's presence and escape from incarceration in Turtle Bay, we've ordered a grounding of all DropShips on the planet while we attempt to recapture him. We've got some solid intel about his escape plan, and we're going to assault a DropPort to try to catch him. We'll either stop him from escaping, or he's going to die trying.

We get word of some juicy targets that are too good to pass up. An airbase filled with bombers and finally a proper main base of operations. They're not going to make those targets easy to capture. But once we do, we should finally have crushed the Yakuza forces on the planet. Huzzah!

We're not about to let a bunch of criminals drive us off our fairly-won planet; so we're out hunting to knock out any supply depot or logistical train they may be using. Our first hunt takes us to the orbiting moon, where some raging storms are preventing proper visibility. Thankfully we can follow the breadcrumbs of beacons to their facilities using our handy advanced Clan "scan mode".

The prisoners we rescued tipped us off to another location with more civilians that needed rescuing. We're off to rescue them in hopes that they'll be able to tip us off to where the Pirate Lord is hiding. The SaKhan is angry, and won't rest until we find him.

It turns out the pirate lord wasn't so honorable after all. Who could have expected that? He's on the run and we're on the hunt, hungry for revenge. Our first plan to hunt him down? To sneak around in gigantic robots of war instead of sending actually stealthy infantry. But this isn't "Infantrywarrior 5 Clans", this is "Mechwarrior 5 Clans", so we're getting in those stompy robots.

@@GamingWithEckerson Maybe. What COULD be done I imaging though is opening a door, resealing it and resting again then. Burn 1 wrench to gain health, gain ammo, and reduce stress.

Killing those two 500 shot turrets was a waste... Plant motion trackers behind them and weld the sideroom door shut... Activate the motion trackers one by one and draw the Zeno's in the cafeteria... Lead soup for lunch... Yummy...
Look what two smart guns can do against attacking Zeno's... Brrrrt... A cloud of acid... And sniping does wonders too...

Always tuck all your sentry guns as far away from the doors... Them critters are fast... And jumpy...
They make a nice barricade, since they'll attack the turrets before the soldiers. This has saved the soldiers from massive hordes a few times. At this point I'm pretty rich on spare turrets and materials for making more, so even if I can't repair some it's not a big deal.
The Queen got killed by those power serges... Don't go pick up stuff under an onslaught... It takes guns away from the squad... Wait until after the screaming stops... That Queen is still waiting with 8 samples and a Zeno project... Do you dare...?
Mines help you get rid of patrolling drones and runners. Scented mines draws them in... Cleans the hallways... Just take on room at the time... Search and secure... Always something to find in the corners...
The Sentry guns in the command room dies, if they get abandoned by the marines. Going off map or changing floors does this... You still didn't get a hold of the three 'old' Sentry guns in the armory... That would make seven Sentry guns to face the three onslaughts... And you can move the Sentry guns back to the door after the first 'suggested' plant... Just duck and cover will save your marines ammo... In the Queens den. Pause the game. Pick your targets. Let it rip. Pause again. Pick new targets. Let it rip... Buy pouches to carry extra tools, med kits and ammo clips... You really need it...
Always hunker down in corners in defense fases, onslaughts or dealing with bigger Zeno's... Behind your Sentry guns if you please... You'll need their ammo supply real fast... Haven't you seen war movies, westerns and action movies... Feels like I'm watching Scary Movie 1-5 like this...
I went into this game with a misconception about what kind of game it was. I was expecting something more akin to X-Com, where soldiers were disposable and you'd eventually win or lose the campaign and be done, however far you got. So I played it that way. I was just in it to mess around and see how far I could get and then call it done. Around the time of the first squad wipe, where it took me to a loading screen instead of back to the Otago, I realized it wasn't that kind of game, but decided to only reload on squad wipes or close to it, just to try to semi-ironman things a bit. Eventually I loosened that up as I decided I actually wanted to try to make it to the end of the game. That being said, if you're not enjoying this playthrough, you're probably better off stopping here. There's so many more hours of video to go compared to where you are now, and I guarantee you it's not going to change in experience much. So if it's not your thing, that's cool, I don't expect my videos to gel with everyone. Hopefully you find another playthrough that you enjoy more.
You shouldn't leave your sentry guns behind... You'll need them... And especially their 250 bullits pr gun...
Still left behind a busted sentry gun at the vet, didn't sweep the labs for extra materiels, didn't notice the sentry gun in the Queens chamber and lost a marine in the heat of things... Always buy extra Sentry guns for dealing with the Queen, onslaught's and setting traps. Otherwise GG Setting a trap means place four sentry's at the end of a corridor, launch a grenade into an infested room and go hide, while Zeno's come out in the hallway to investigate. That should clear the deck...
Oh don't worry, it takes me quite a while before I start learning those lessons.

Yeah, I thought about it after this recording, and I think the egg and face hugger are different entities. If you don't remove the egg with an explosive, it still works. But if you kill the face hugger inside, nothing comes out when it triggers.

Sentry guns, have 250 shots, get taken out after firing 40. While in Aliens a full onslaught was stopped cold and the gun ran out of ammo.
The xenos in these games tend to be more bullet sponges than they were in the movies. I really wish they were more helpful. It's probably why I rarely bother with them despite taking a few with me every level.
