I started sewing 30 days ago- here’s what I made. Beginner sewing | sewing my wardrobe
I started sewing 30 days ago, and I’m showing you everything I made. Lots of this stuff is practice/not wearable, but I got some wearable pieces out of it and feeling so much more confident in my skills!
If you enjoy chaotic sewing with children interrupting in a dark basement, my channel is for you! 😅

Hi everyone! I started my sewing journey less than a month ago, and I’m on a mission to sew my wardrobe. Today I’m trying to recreate my friend’s cute skirt out of scrap fabric and I made a lot of mistakes along the way. This is not a tutorial, I repeat, this is not a tutorial! I have no idea what I’m doing. If you enjoy chaotic sewing during quiet/nap time, this one’s for you! That cool hot ru...

This is very inspiring. Thank you
You’re doing great! All techniques will become easier with time and practice, promise. The most important part is to keep trying 😊
I promise that the sewing journey is full of ups and downs for everyone regardless of experience. Making your own bias will be easier with a rotary cutter, mat and ruler. Good luck.
Well done Taylor, you have been super productive for your first month sewing! You’re doing great! I would like to also recommend Tilly and the Buttons patterns for beginners - they don’t have intimidating closures etc. You may already know this, but many companies rate their patterns from easy to advanced so it might be good to keep an eye on those ratings too. You are doing brilliantly!
Thank you so much for the recs! Definitely will check out Tilly and buttons- I think you’re the second to mention to me.!
I also started sewing this year and had a really good experience with Sydney Graham’s patterns. The Lane Pant and Skyline Dress in particular. Plus her sewing 101 series. Such a fun and frustrating hobby 😂
I love Sydney! I also binged her series before actually starting and found it so helpful!
Loved ur video what kind of machine do you have?
It’s a brother CS5055
I want to dress the Angel did in the book Redeeming Love once she lived on Michaels farm and this is what it's giving, love it!
Now I have to go run and google this!
These look great! The crotch fit problem on the pants, if it is what i think it is, is an extremely easy fix. You need to "scoop" the crotch...just look up a video on it, there are lots. 😊
@@audreyhanson1921 thank you!!
super cute !!
Thank you!!
So pretty hahah less go!!
Keep up the great work!! I love it!!
Thank you! Will do!
Newer sewer here too! Only about 5 months. I took on my first pants project around New Years, which turned out to be my first big fail. I dove into learning how to make crotch adjustments to a pattern which I think could help with your front bulk. My second pants were much better when I made the adjustments I wanted to see on me. I think the pants/shorts you made looked great as is!! So really only going off your explanation, you might need to make the front curve a little narrower, possibly…I can’t say making pants adjustments is quick/easy thing, so only proceed if you’re looking for perfection. lol I watched a couple other videos of yours and hope the rotary cutter started working for you. It saved me a lot of time. The scissors drove me nuts cause my lines weren’t straight. 😂
Thank you! I think I’m probably too lazy and overall not that concerned about the crotch bulk right now. I just wish it was an easy fix in the way I sew it! 😅
Pattern companies I recommend for beginners are Itch to Stitch, Love Notions, Seamwork, Closet Core, Grainline Studio.... A youtuber that I would recommend is TomKat Stitchery. She has several classes online and TONS of videos that you could look up how to do anything on her channel related to sewing clothes. She also has several sewalongs on her channel. Most pattern companies also have FB groups where you can ask questions or see pictures of other people's makes. Are you using a quilting ruler to cut straight lines? That is what I would recommend for bias tape or even the bottom of a shirt or hem of something. I usually use a ruler and rotary cutter whenever there is a straight line on a pattern. You are making progress for sure!! 👏👏
Thank you so much for the recs! I have been practicing with the rotary cutter more and I’m starting to get the hang of it!
I love patterns that have video tutorials with them 😂
I need them as a newb!
@@taylorsewssame!! Also for that shirt that shrunk maybe you can add on a ruffle gathered part to the bottom if you still have that fabric! I feel like that would be cute!
You can use a ribbon for the tag! It can be a pretty satin one, or it can be from cotton twill.
I'm loving all of the linen! 😍
I've been sewing for years and one thing I've learned is the prep before actually sewing. The cutting of the pattern and pinning of the fabric must be precise for the garment to come out as you would like it . also ironing all seams. Good luck. Enjoyed your outfits. How fun!!! Sewing is very creative and it feels so good when you make these pieces you love.😁
@@christinealton350 thank for the advice! I am doing all of that, I’m just not very good at it 😅
Thank you for making this video! I’m currently in a sewing class, but I haven’t really been practicing outside of class. This was the motivation I needed!
@@stacy_bee yay, do it! You’ve got this!
My biggest TIP --- FABRIC SCISSORS ✂️ ONLY FOR YOUR FABRIC… a good 30-40 dollar pair that is off limits to everyone and everything else!! Also a big and little pair… you will be a happy girl!!✨🤌🏼
That is amazing. I have a 7 year old and i feel like they are so smart. I have 3 other kids older and he is the only one that loves to learn new things and helps me♡ I love sewing and I want to pass it down to my 3 boys and my daughter ♡
Beautiful work❤❤❤
Of course it does...look at the weave.
I'm in seamstress school, my first projects looked quite similar, that was in August 2024. Now I'm already sowing my second blouse. I'm very impressed with her skill!!
It came out so good! You must be so proud of her and the progress she’s making!❤🎉
@@lunag3257 yes- I’m so proud and impressed!
@ I think we are ALL impressed by her skills! I didn’t start sewing until 9th grade home economics; she does way better than I did!☺️
It’s so cute!! Looks so good!! I’m scared to do gathers but I need to just do it already 😆
You can do it!
I also don’t have a serger but I learned the French seam and I’ve been using that when I can! I love it! Much cleaner than zigzag
I love French seams but I’m too lazy to do it usually!
I love French seams!
Hi, I’m loving your videos! Your enthusiasm is refreshing 😊 I think a great person for you to watch is KATHERINE SEWS. She is so helpful, I’ve been binge watching her videos and find them “sew” helpful 😆 keep going, you’re doing great!
@@debbiecampbell3260 aww thank you! Thanks for the recommendation, I will check her out!
My mom sewed when I was young, but I only picked it up again a few years ago as an adult. I wish I had stuck with it this entire time. I love this for you and your daughter!
So awesome! I'm loving your channel! Pants are so intimidating to me 😬

@@easol yes!! I picked up crocheting again last year but my daughter never expressed interest in it.
You have made great progress. Keep up the great work. A magnetic seam guide is a useful tool for sewing straight lines.

That's amazing
I'm so excited about your sewing journey. We all begin somewhere, and look, look where you have come. You have gained knowledge. It is so exciting too that your daughter has this interest. I'm really happy for you. You will find your way. You are right too, there are so many videos out there to help. I will be following you. Happy sewing.

@@AlyssaNikole it’s called Sewing Machine Basics for Children!
I love the Pomona pants pattern and fit. I lived in my linen Pomona pants shorts all summer. I add 2 pockets to the back. I made matching linen sets with the Laurence top pattern by Vivian Shao Chen.
@@whateverislovely8654 i made my first Laurence top today and I’m obsessed! So proud of how my first v neck bias binding came out!
So cute 😊
@@The_real_RUclipsUntitled thanks, she did a great job!
Keep sewing! I started sewing a year ago and I’ve made myself so many clothes now! I love wearing and making one of a kind items!!its sooo rewarding 🤩🤩
@@livieegee that’s awesome to hear! What’s your favorite item you’ve made so far?
If you can find a matching colour, you can add a ruffled hem to the bottom 😊
Bias binding is difficult. More advanced sewing machines have attachment that feed the bias through. I like making fully lined items or using interfacing for necklines and armholes. Very easy once you learn how, there are a few extra steps like stay stitching and understitching. I am only writing these terms so you know what videos to search. Happy sewing!
Looks great!!!
I’m so excited to stumble across your videos… Im in pretty much the same boat as you. I have done some basic things like coasters totes, I feel I have mastered those.. I’m getting ready to JUST START, JUST TRY, JUST GO FOR IT, with making clothes…
@@chrissyhilton6957 do it! I honestly think it’s the best way to learn. You just have to dive in and make mistakes with cheap fabric!
Wonder memory making!❤

I’ve always thought seamstress was specifically referring to someone who has a career in sewing while sewist is maybe just a hobby/casual sewer? Who knows!
