When I was in high school, the Pit closed, and many of the families moved to Sierra Vista. Bisbee started to die, and by the time I went into the Navy it was almost dead. Every time I came home on leave I’d drive to Bisbee, and it was so sad to see it. Only Brewery Gulch was still somewhat functioning. Then the artists and the antiques dealers moved in, and retirees, and they managed to bring it back from the brink. I always get a thrill when I go down to visit, and see the people enjoying it. Definitely try Bisbee Breakfast Club. They’re even in Tucson now. Great food!

That’s Texas Canyon at the rest stop! Lived in the SW Az area most of my life, and still stop here on my way to and fro. Check out the Triangle T, a historic ranch just a skip down the road, with really nice accommodations PLUS a really cool bar and grill on-site. I’ve stayed here before, it’s totally worth it! It’s just beautiful, almost like a western movie set. And great walking among the boulders (great for scenic photography, too 😊).

I grew up in Sierra Vista, and when I was a kid in the late 60s , early 70s, Fairbanks was not like this. I only remember three or four buildings (one BIG one that I’d been told was a mercantile and the large stuccoed building might be it. But there were no extensions to the left) and they were in ruins. For sure I don’t recall the building with the stone work AT ALL, or the building with the barred windows, but I might be wrong. Mostly we stopped there when we were riding our horses to walk up to visit the old cemetery on the hill. It’s still an incredibly peaceful place. They’ve sure done a nice restoration job, especially in making some things look original. Wish I had taken pictures of it back then.

I recommend the book ‘Going back to Bisbee’ by Richard Shelton. He was a professor at the UofA, and taught at the Bisbee public school way, way back. He also taught English at the State Prison where I worked. In the book He talks about the whole Ft.Huachuca/Fairbanks/Hereford/San Pedro/Bisbee area, and throws in fascinating historic facts. He was such a nice man. And it’s one of my favorite books about my home.

@@SeabeeTraveler we were kids, without cars, and we rode our horses EVERYWHERE! From Ft.Huachuca, to the San Pedro, Hereford, the Canyons, Tombstone, Fairbanks, Huachuca City, and the Mule Mountains. Can’t even imagine the mileage we put on them. But it was the best childhood ever, to be with friends and be free to ride the whole Valley. BTW, thought I’d mention that I believe I was the first female Seabee, late 1979. It was a clerical error. They thought I was a guy (? Why?) , when I showed up at Personnel everybody’s mouths dropped open. They put me in the Master-at-Arms at ACB2 temporarily (about 5- 6 months) working for Chief Petty Officer Woods until I could be transferred to BMU2. I loved it, ACB2 was awesome and the guys were really nice to me, considering. Loved BMU, too. One of the best times of my life. Saw your tag; SeabeeTraveler, and had to subscribe. Hi Faolindaze, Is that what is was for? Thanks for clearing that up. I kinda like that better than a fountain, adds character to the story. Thanks again and have a great day!

Ft Stockton was about 14hrs drive from me on my trips to LA and Vegas. it was right at halfway to LA so I would stop, get gas and dinner then spend the night most times... I never ventured into town though, the truck stop was across the road from the hotel... I'm enjoying this trip.

Hi Kajunguy, I only wish the Fort museum was open then. The timing didn't work out for me on that day. 14 hours of driving isn't as easy as it used to, at least for me.😂 It's been a fun trip for me to share. Have a great day and we'll see ya on the next one!

@@SeabeeTraveler I always had a bad habit of waiting to the last minute before leaving to come home.... I would have to fly like the wind to make it back to work in time sometimes..😂 See you on the next video
