I'm sure glad this guy knows where he's going because I don't. LOL
@tomharris8263 😅 Yes, I do now! That's the point of the videos. It took me a long time to get the hang of things in there. Thank you!
@@PortsOfLosAngeles You know which lane to be in at all times. Good job and thanks for the post. I enjoy them.
Port drivers are another breed. Just crazy. I would not like this on a daily bass.
😅 Thank you! I am so happy you watched the video! I did my time OTR as a new driver, and now it is my personal opinion that this work is a lot easier. 😊
What happens if you have 2 26 foot containers? 😊
@ssweeps So. They do know it in the control room. I have had a 20 foot, and 40 foot container, in one transaction. In case of 2 containers, they will take the one at a time. When i had different sized, they open the gate so I can adjust the chassis. It just takes a little longer, and someone will probably talk to you in the booth speaker. 🙂
Is the ticket how you get paid? Where do you fill up with fuel? 😊 My cousin used to drive from MN to California. Owner operator. He delivered playground equipment. He would fill both tanks in South Dakota to save money. He could drive all the way to SD and back on one fuel trip. He would pick up trailers in California to take back to SD or MN. Pallets of plastic pellets or whatever needed to get out right away. 😊
@ssweeps Hi!😀 There is a transaction ticket from the port, and that one is proof of the transaction. I am an employee driver and we get paid be the hour, plus a little extra per completed container. There are fuel stations near by. It depends who I work for. Most places, we have to fuel the truck at the end of my shift, so it is full and ready for the next shift. Sometimes, we can have a fuel service, and they come to the company yard and fuel up the trucks.😄
I use to work at a terminal like this. Not as big as this one, but it could get crazy at times.
@tomharris8263 Yeah, it's not crazy every day, but they take their turns.
Good ole trashpac lol
@Og_Blue_ yes! 😅 Every time!
Where are you taking the containers?
I am an employee driver, sometimes I take it to the final destination (a warehouse delivery somewhere) and sometimes they don't need me to make the delivery so I drop it at the company yard. Most companies have the same system.
@@PortsOfLosAngeles so how far away are the final destinations?
@dubbdadubb Usually for us local drivers anywhere in the grater L.A. area. We can drive from a port to anywhere that you can get there and come back to base in one shift. Any trips going long haul are taken mostly by drivers who drive Over the Road. Depending on what company you work for.
So how did you that was your container? The other ones looked the same…🤔
😆 yes they all look alike! 😆 Containers have an I.D. number, and I can only pick-up a container that belongs to my company. There is a whole transaction process. 🙂
@@PortsOfLosAngeles this is so fascinating 😀

I have class A but I want to work inside the port. I heard it’s hard to get hired there
@1ZosoLZ Hi! Yes, I understand there is a long waiting list. They will start people as temps working random schedules. The difficult part is getting hired by the union, and I have never tried.
How do you know where to go? There’s so many exits it seems
So, that's part of the point of the videos. To give you an idea, what to expect, because I did not get any training for the ports. At this port, they don't have a map, but the clerks are very helpful, and I can ask them which way to go, then you'll get the hang of it after a few visits. 😀

😅 I am not sure which part you are referring to, however, Professional drivers prioritize defensive driving to prevent accidents, while others recklessly endanger themselves and others with their aggressive driving. These inconsiderate drivers are just bullies of the road.😊
The back ground music and the time lapse video makes us feel the port works are so efficient.
@@lysbest0708 😁 Thank you! I am so happy you're watching the videos! 😁 The music is also linked in the description.
I bumped into your channel while channel surfing on RUclips. I'm glad I did!! Can you do a video on Union Pacific's ITCF yard in Carson and East Los Angeles Intermodal yard which is right across the street from BNSF's, old Santa Fe Railroad yard on Washington Blvd in East Los Angeles? Keep the videos 📷 coming and stay safe and legal out there.. Some of these companies you're 📽️ filming don't want anyone who doesn't work to for them on their property.......
HI! 😀 I am so happy you're watching the videos. I do have 2 videos at the BNSF yard. I know that yards you are talking about on Washington Blvd. Unfortunately I do not get to go to the Santa Fe yard that you are asking, and the ICTF yard I have been but a long time ago, when I was not making videos yet. I do not get to chose where I go, only dispatch and when it's my turn. 😅 I believe you, that the companies don't want people getting video, however there are so many already, and some not very good or useful. If someone would tell me something, I would probably remove my videos. My videos are meant for training and to the point, quickly!
My father is also a trailer driver, sometimes I like to come along if my father has a long-distance order, such as unloading or loading. greetings from Indonesia 😊

Hey. Does a trucker need an appointment-time to pick-up from /deliver-to the Ports of LA & LongBeach? I heard some ports require appointment times
Yes, it is true. Usually the dispatchers do all that. You can't just show-up, unless you already know, the port made an exception that day, then dispatch would tell you too. Also, the appointment a time window. They will not allow you to enter more than 30 minutes, or too late=missed the appointment. That's the reason you see drivers parked outside. They are usually too early, and waiting for the time to enter the port.
Bro ITS has been bad lately 😂

@@PortsOfLosAngeles 🥼👋👶😢😭😭😭 Owwwie!!! Lol
What do you like most about port-work? Least? Any advice for rookie-(port-)truckers?
Although we can still have slow season here. When I drove O.T.R. I usually did not earn good money. Driving in the ports is a lot easier, I am home, and money is a lot better. 😊
The worst part is probably dealing with other drivers in busy times! Everyone wants to get to the front of the line, and they will cut you off at any chance. The port workers used to be horrible. They have improved, but you can still run into someone yelling at you unnecessarily, and you can't fight back because they can get you banned from the port.
This is not a daily thing, but it's happening often, and every port takes their turn!
Dam that’s busy as hell and people are saying trucking is slow. I wonder if the railyards here in Chicago are this bad.
Busy but the loads Don't pay nothing. Too😂😂😂😂 much down time you never get paid for. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If you dont mind me asking whats the hourly for a twic card holder ?
It's an average of $30 with no overtimepay. Different companies will have overtime or pay extra, per container moved. Night shift went to $35 once, but not anymore. Sometimes a company offers [about] $26 per hour plus over time. I am used to working 10 to 12 hours per day, and the paychecks work pretty well.😁
@@PortsOfLosAngeles how many runs do you make per day? I heard wait times can be up to 6 hours? Is that true
I do not have a dedicated route. Every day is different. When I was working at night, we would average 2 round trips per day, and yes, I have done 6, or 7 hours with one container move. However, at this moment, ports are slow, and those delays are not very common. Right now, it is possible to make 3 or 4 round trips to the ports and have a container each way.
LA ports driver!!! Another great video, thanks. I try to tell the office this is the type professional NEEDED to recover containers on a daily. You can only lead the horse.😂
Yup. They'll never listen to us. They always think we are just a dumb driver.
Also, please shut your trailer lights off, It blinds the remote operator when taking over when Strads fails to do its job.
Good to know. I wish they would have a sign about that. Usually, we never get many instructions about these things. Thank you so very much!😁
Are the container cranes robotic or is there a person in each one?
Actually these smaller, single container, cranes are self-driving. 🙂
@PortsOfLosAngeles thanks. That is what I meant. Super interesting.
Ports, LBCT and TraPac have automated cranes, and I understand that an operator is needed for the final mounting moment.
the first thing you have to learn is spanish because nobody speaks english there
Yeah! 🤣 My video ought to be sponsored by Babble. "Learn Spanish, so you can become a pro, working at the ports." 🤣🤣🤣
