Playing some Phil Collins on the HeliosCM in my living room, this was very loud with an Adcom GFA-5500 playing right below clipping, so about 200 watts peak per channel. The HeliosCM is now available as a lot from Meniscus Audio with proceeds going to Jeff Bagby’s family. Search the Facebook page "DIY Loudspeaker Project Pad" for "HeliosCM" to see details on the build.

    How do you like this setup all these years later? I have a pair of 745s mated to the 18sound xt1464 but I'm curious how they'd do paired with the seos 24 and 4 to 6, 8" woofers playing the mids for what would be a high powered "column point source"

    • @javadshadzi4824
      @javadshadzi4824 9 дней назад

      Still one of the best sounding, biggest sounding and most dynamic speakers I've ever designed or heard. Keep in mind the directivity of the Seos24 will be tough to match with a 6" or 8", ideally two 12" side by side would match well, or like what you see here with the horn that had a very similar directivity match to the Seos24.

    Wetting the curved part of the veneer slightly with water on the outside part would also work? The moisturized veneer should be more flexible to adapt and stick to the mdf? Which one do you think is better for a radius of half an inch?

    • @javadshadzi4824
      @javadshadzi4824 16 дней назад

      I've never found a need, the reason being the water in the glue is released when heated and steams the veneer as you bend and heat it, the heat also allows the veneer to bend too, since this I have done radiuses as tight as 3/4", never had to soften the veneer in any way.

    awesome idea. Thought about to do cross diagonal strip planking to build a rowing boat shell, 4 layers to get 3 mm thickness of total hull wall strength. But I hate expoxy adhesive. This seems an interesting alternative to use paper backed veneer, preppreg it with wood glue, and then just heat it around a core form onto another veneeir layer. And repeat it 2 times to get 4 layers bonded. Interesting technic. Never seen it. Tks for your research, tests and uploading the video.

    In metal cutting, carbide edges usually have a hone on them, which makes it not quite as sharp. The reason for that is for longer edge life holding the original dimension and minimizing chipping. So you might say the edge is pre-worn to a stabilized state of minimum wear. Possibly that’s why the new Yonico factory edge does not as sharp. When tools are re-sharpened usually the hone is lost, unless you specify it.

    Once you heat the surface with the iron its very important to burnish the surface as it cools! Use the edge of a 2x4 until it cools otherwise, your bond will have air pockets.and on your video you can see the edges are NOT adhering properly.

    • @javadshadzi4824
      @javadshadzi4824 9 месяцев назад

      This absolutely isn’t necessary or even needed, light pressure from the iron is all that’s needed to get a strong bond. What you describe, veneer scraping, is needed for contact cements to get a good bond, the iron on PVA glue method bonds through heat and melting alone.

      @@ronaldrice4085 they call it “waterproof glue”. What they say is it’s not to be submerged for long periods. They call TB2 “water resistant”.

    Great video - got me thinking about using this technique for veneering over a compound dome shape.

      This is the TangBand W5-2053, wattage is probably around 50 watts here.

      Hi Javad, very nice speakers. Big fidelity but small enclosure, that's what i like😮 and still full range and stereo. I have read the tread but didn't find out the crossover frequency? You said you where aiming for 900hz but i didn't found out if you stuck with this? Thanks

    Thanks for sharing, will definitely use it. Perhaps you, or anyone else, can help me on how to veneer a flat mdf with a 45 degree bevel in one go without having the veneer to crack?! Thanks

    • @javadshadzi4824
      @javadshadzi4824 Год назад

      You’ll need lots of practice, you’ll need to cut the corner out of the bevel, easiest way to do this is make one cut down the middle, overlap the pieces flat on the substrate and make one cut through both flaps on the top of the bevel transition, then remove the excess pieces and glue.

    Hi Javad, this was exactly wha I was looking for! quick question: how thick is the veneer? 2 mm or more?

    • @javadshadzi4824
      @javadshadzi4824 Год назад

      Great, thanks! This is standard paper backed veneer, not sure on the exact thickness but thin, 1mm or less, I believe 1/40th of 1 inch. or .635mm

    Hey nice demo. Do you know which is better? Dos or push pull? Some say push pull is better as dos loweres your sensitivity by 3db? Also control if the drivers & distortion is better in push pull as both drivers are in same polarity.

    • @javadshadzi4824
      @javadshadzi4824 Год назад

      Hello, I’m not sure what you mean by “push pull”, can you elaborate? If that means two drivers out of phase and polarity then no, that’s not a good solution. Bass drivers should always be in phase with each other. With DOS both drivers are in polarity and in phase, you gain 6db of sensitivity and cancel out all driver force in the cabinet. There’s really no disadvantage with DOS.

    Have you tried an inside corner with a curling iron? I have a guitar headstock to do with a slight 1" radius or so.

      I have not, you’d need to find a way to press it down to/o burning your hand, a heat gun and clamping jig to heat up the veneer and cabinet till the glue melts then clamping it and letting it cool would likely be the best way, give some stiff a try like I did here 👍🏼
