Fighting for Hope - an IAPMD Interview with Aaron Kinghorn
Join us for a candid conversation with Aaron Kinghorn, author of Hope: A Guide to PMDD for Partners & Caregivers
About the Book: One of the most powerful factors in managing PMDD can be love and support from partners and family members. But it’s not always an easy journey for loved ones, even despite best intentions.
Loved ones may not understand how the menstrual cycle can have such a striking effect on their person. They may not experience emotions in the same way leading to frequent confusion and frustration. They may also bear the brunt of intense PMDD episodes and bouts of rage.
There’s not much guidance and support for partners and caregivers in how to deal with such a complex condit...

IAPMD asks Asarina Pharma your questions about Sepranalone Clinical Trials
Thank you. I felt seen about this for once. It's been a long journey and every single month is a ride. My symptoms are so severe, I'll be single at least until menopause. I'm so lovable 3 weeks a month, so punchable 1 week a month. It's made it so that even during my lovable times i am hard to love because the punchable times are always right around the corner. I'm so lucky my children understand why i isolate so as to not cause any mental wounds. I retreat for them not for me. PMDD sufferers unite! ❤
Has pregabilin been investigated for the GABA dysfunction?
❤❤❤ thank you
What a wonderful video! I found the suggestion at 40:09 so useful! I am definitely going to try to implement that in my life.
I suffer pmdd am tired already
❤
I don’t think people realise how serious this condition is.
Thank you.
❤❤❤❤
I feel very sad when no one understands my problems. I want to express how I feel, but no one seems to understand. Everyone just normalizes my problems, saying that it’s normal and that all girls go through it. I can't make them understand exactly what I’m struggling with. The most heartbreaking part is that even gynaecologists don’t understand.
Im 36 and still dealing with periods
Informative, thank you
Thank you for posting this! I was unable to come to attend live. I appreciated things to look for when reading a paper about PMDs, the clear explanation of the paper and the thoughts afterwards.
Thankyou so much for sharing your story Suzi, you have no idea how much your words mean to me. I am struggling with this conditions for years now and it's impossible for me to find doctors, therapists or psychiatrists who believe me. I am losing hope day by day, because there is literally no help. Hearing you talking about your experience makes me feel a lot less alone. I hope it will find a way to stay. Thankyou for your wonderful work !
Is their a specialist of PMDD in the north east of the UK?
I really needed this. My period came on this morning and I was already becoming so anxious and anticipating being rude to the kiddos I work with, but taking this moment to breathe and give myself some grace and compassion for the day I have head and also knowing that I can always apologize and taking a moment to breathe before reacting or responding. Thank you 🙏🏾
Saved to my "pulling my socks up" playlist, because I'm too overloaded rn, ty.
This is me
Please keep making these
Having PMDD is so nuanced and hard to get the proper treatment, support and I'm alongside so many who are navigating that now and wish it was easier! 🤨
Thank God for menopause 🎉 Suffered from pmdd in the 90s. I don't know how I got through law school while suffering from pmdd 🎉
My wife has PMDD. She self diagnosed realising it was cyclical, discovered that other women suffer with it, and takes Quetiapine on the really bad days. Day 10 before her period is when it kicks in and in the 2 to 3 days leading up to her period it can get extreme - hallucinations, psychosis, suicidal ideation, extreme paranoid and suspicion. When she's in the down phase she exercises far too much, won't eat, loes weight, becomes very masculine, dominant. For years i thought she had Borderline personality disorder - but it cycled and didn't fit. She was diagnosed bipolar but again it's cyclical. Antidepressants are horrible for her - they put her in an emotional straightjacket. I listened to a podcast by Andrew Huberman and decided to try her on Magnesium Threonate, L-Theanine, Apigenin. This has had a MASSIVE effect. It's not perfect, it really has a lot to do with how much isn't dealt with in her life in the pre ovulation period of her cycle. But the supplements have severely lessened her symptoms, and made it much easier for her to not listen to the negative thoughts. I'm a member of a 12 step fellowship - I'm no Saint and put her through a lot of hell. She's working the Steps now with a sponsor and this is dealing with the comorbid aspects. I'm going to try 5-HTP with her and see if this could be another adjunct to her treatment. I thank the Universe that PMDD is again being recognised after being driven out of western medicine for 100 years, and that we have brave people standing up against stigma and bullying, willing to admit that PMDD is REAL and debilitating to those women who suffer as my wife has. I'm so thankful that I have been shown ways to help her. I have the woman i love with all my heart back. Yes it's hard. But i know what's going on now, i know it's not my fault, i know how it works in her, and I've fallen more in love with her because of it. Thank you for this video - i got a lot of good information from it. Please don't stop what you are doing.
It is so hard. I dont have my anger under control. Also i know what to do but in the moment i spiral. Cant stick with all the helpfull things. It is just a disaster
I don't know if there are studies to support this, but my personal anecdote: I have found that taking calcium, magnesium, and the b vitamins help immensely with the irritability, rage, sensitivity, and panic/anxiety. I didn't notice a change with the calcium/magnesium until I had taken it consistently for a month, but the b vitamins work within 24 hours of taking them. This, again, is just my personal experience after my physician recommended taking Optivite PMT. I am careful not to take over the recommended amounts, but I have found it cheaper to buy just those vitamins than the Optivite PMT, plus the Optivite PMT seemed to make me too keyed up.
Thank you for sharing
Thank you!! I had PMDD for 30 years and had a full hysterectomy. now I have CPTSD because of all the trauma. It is so validating to hear this conversation and look forward to reading The Cycle❤
Thanks!
Amazing work ❤ x
Thank you for y'all's commitment to such important research. Women's health has gone so long under the radar and is riddled with misdiagnoses... And honestly a lot of women, including myself, just feeling beside themselves and plain crazy. Thank you thank you.
Thank you for this wonderful conversation that is so needed. I look forward to reading The Cycle and also appreciate the host’s very thoughtful questions and commentary.
🙏🏾🙏🏾💙
❤
Thank you
thanks for sharing this!
They excluded people based on birth control use. But didn’t factor in diet. Are these researchers unaware that the ketogenic diet can treat pmdd. I have heard Dr amen mention this in his book and possibly dr Georgia ede and Dr Palmer.
Thank you!! ❤ I just got diagnosed with pmdd
In my experience SSRIs have no effect on my anxious pmdd and actually make mine worse. And same with birth control pills. I have had success with Gaba. Propranolol when needed at low dose has worked the best for me
I have upended my life in the most chaotic of ways in the days before my period and greatly regretted it as soon as my period came. Now I realize I do things like that so just have the crazy anxiety like I just need to move or change something like quit my job.
I wonder how these mechanisms interact with ADHD. I've watched other videos that say that dopamine dysregulation in ADHD is affected by estrogen.
I have PMDD and bipolar 2. They can coexist. I am sure of it. I have both.
Find a Dr doesn’t exist on your website
It's genetic just saying
*desire to run away/escape* this is so true thank you so much for sharing this research I can relate to all of these!
Thank you so much for all the information you are sharing about PMDD, after suffering for many years it gives me hope and comfort that the IAPMD exists and is helping so many of us. Thank you! Tehla x
I highly recommend anyone with PMDD to try the supplement Jubilance. It has significantly helped me and honestly life changing!
This was so nice thank you!!
The symptoms of BPD are real enough the issue is the scientific validity of the clinical construct. All of the symptoms of BPD can be better explained by CPTSD and bipolar, especially when gender is taken into account.
What a difficult but important speech! Thank you! I'm so sorry you've been through it. It's such a relief to know it isn't me. I've been trying to take control of it, my therapy sessions help all the days except those 4-6 prementrual days. On those days it's like it isn't me, I am extremely fatigued, hypersensitive, depressed, I can't speak. I understand tomorrow is the next day, it always passes, but sometimes it's really unbearable, it's a torture. When I try to explain how I feel, I don't know how to do it, because ithose symptoms don't sound serious or as torturing as they feel. Yet there is hope.
I appreciate the work you've done! I just have a question: 8:35 Could you clarify the part about endometriosis, please? I had an endometrioid cyst removed a year ago, but I've had most of the symptoms over the last 6 months or so (before the surgery too) . Does it mean my symptoms might be caused by endometriosis, not PMDD?
October 2nd is my birthday. I am battling PMDD in Perimenopause. If I am ever well enough again, I want to help spread awareness. Thank you, Missouri! ✨🙏💜
The audio is so loud and high pitched it really does the opposite for me while in full PMDD mode, its irritating vs realaxing. Thank you for making this though.
Couldn’t help but think the exact same.
My husband parental kidnapped my daughter and is forcing me to move out all because of my severe PMDD. I'm borderline suicidal. Has this happened to any other ladies? I'm feel so destroyed.
