How Donna Karan changed fashion. The Architect of Quiet Luxury?
More than just a designer, Donna Karan has become somewhat of a divisive figure in public opinion but her influence on modern womenswear is undeniable. A key pioneer of what we now know as "quiet luxury," Karan shaped how women approach their wardrobes with her practical and empowering designs. From Anne Klein to Donna Karan New York and the youthful DKNY, she championed innovation and practicality. Yet, her impact is complex. While she undeniably influenced modern womenswear and its empowering nature, her missteps, like defending Harvey Weinstein, cannot be ignored. Karan's career offers a stark reminder: even revolutionary figures cast shadows. As the brand looks to relaunch in a new di...

It‘s difficult for the craftsmanship of the bags and this is why they are expensive. While looking at the brand, it’s fair to say that the price is not just based on materials. It’s really important for the people who created the bags getting paid equally to keep this industry going. But yes, this is an expensive luxury and common people will have a hard time investing money into these bags.

What would it be like if they did go the route of say creating more functional outdoor wear or techwear like a North Face. Or Arc’teryx. But at the luxury level. Distinctive, heritage, and functional - but no puffer jackets! We've seen the popularity of Canada Goose saturate the streets on London.

I disagree that DK's clothes were anti male gaze. I think they were feminine and sensuous, they were for the male gaze ( there's nothing wrong with that ) but they also appealed to women, because they made women sexy without showing lots of skin ( compare this to Versace/Mugler/Cavalli.) Anti male gaze would be The Row. Phoebe Philo stands on the shoulders of Donna Karan.

I disagree with this. If you know DK, you know she created with women in mind. She never designed for the perspective of men (in her womenswear). A woman can be sexy and it not be for the gaze of men. Thats what makes her a legend. The DK brand of the early days was as anti-male gaze as you could get commercially (this was a women designing clothes for women). A woman’s sense of sensuality should never be tied to what a man will see, or think, or perceive. THAT’s DK!

We need more videos comparing and contrast Virgil compared to Pharrell. I say this because Virgil was the last master designer menswear LV house. Pharrell needs more restraint as some of his looks are gaudy as we move (stylistically) into a more quieter esthetic. It's like I'm watching an 80' and 90 fashion remix. Still I applaud the appointment of Pharrell and look forward to seeing more from him. He was very engaged with Karl at Chanel, plus his own, street kid, hip-hop, surfer, street wear vibe was cutting edge. He's still needs to find his footing. The recent collection was all over the place. The western wear was too costume, but had with some amazing pieces! The trope of Native American always defaults to blue turquoise, heavy beading and southwestern tribal design. There's silver, feathers, red turquoise, wraps/shawls, pottery, drums, horses, bulls, artwork that could have taken inspiration in this collection.

I generally agree with this video. But on the flipside, even though it is just canvas made of cheap material - using high quality technique and adding resin to make it durable. You have to credit the company for making something which is what people want. Status symbol? Really? so many brands have similar design, i don't think it is just a status symbol. They must have got something right to be sustainable as a company for so many years selling the same thing.

Tanner Leatherstein dissected the Anjou bag on his YT channel. His verdict is the quality of materials and craftsmanship was high, but he doesn't think it's worth it. However, only you can detertime if the bag is worth it as each person has a different financial situation. I've done a lot of research and I've decided to get my wife the Anjou GM bag because of the relative large amount of leather used and that you can get two looks out of it because it's reversible.

it should be mentioned how crucial the Asian market is to Miu Miu, there are more stores in Seoul alone than any other city and some countries in the world. Thank you for your comment! We mention the influence of South Korea, specifically the ambassadorship of Im Yoon-ah and Jang Won-young in the podcast which is longer and more detailed. The challenge for us here on YT is that we need to keep our videos short and we try to share a different view. Highlighting the influence of East Asia on the luxury market seems obvious as East Asia drives most of the luxury market across literally every major luxury fashion brand so whilst it is an important factor it feels a little like we are teaching our audience to "suck eggs", perhaps insulting their intelligence a little when stating obvious things. I hope you understand our perspective, but thank you for contributing to the conversation.
