Tobacco Motorwear Co. Protective Riding Jeans Review
I think you should shorten your laces
That’s a really good idea. I hadn’t thought of that
This looks like such a fun trip. I kind of want to follow your tracks. But you should have used a bike with longer range! Many bikes can do 300 on a tank!
Thanks for watching! I used this bike because it’s the one I have 😄
Well what happened at the dealership?? What was causing the diminishing fuel efficiency?
The chalked it up to excessive speed into headwinds.
I would not try to do this ride on a Harley. And I've been riding for over 40 years. The Dalton is best with a 4wd truck. You have my respect.
Very cool! When I saw the caption pop up that stated 2003 Road King Classic, I had to pause and back up to make sure I got that right. Besides my GoldWing, I also ride an old carbureted 2002 Electra Glide TC-88 with stage 2 and always wondered how she would do on the Dalton. I don't think I would attempt it on the FLHT, but I would definitely do it on an ADV bike to your point. Kudos to you for a successful trip.
For sure an ADV bike next time.
In 2001 August I rode from Texas to Fairbanks and decided not to punish my new Goldwing up the Dalton. I was back into the US in Medford Oregon on 9-11-2001, the day our world changed forever.
That day sticks with us all. Thanks for watching
I love milk
It does a body good!
Are you in Charlotte NC. I'm just north in Mount Airy
Yessir
@@CrunchMoto wish I had the time and money to do the trips you do
You are pushing it! Dawson Creek b.c here.
Beautiful area, Dawson Creek. I hope to be back soon.
You need to put better context. Video yourself just riding is very boring
@@reymartinez8830 Thanks for sharing your opinion. 81,000 other people disagree with you.
I've watched your cross country Ca to Fla before, just watched it again and then found this trip, love your RK, I just recently got a 99. Looking to do a long trip also, do you still have the 5 speed or is it a 6 speed? Does the 5 speed hinder you in any way? Coming from a bike with a 6 speed.
Awesome! Thanks for watching. Yes- I have the 5speed. A 6th gear would have been nice for high-speed highway cruising, otherwise the 5 was fine.
@@CrunchMoto thank you for your response! Stay safe and can't wait to see your next adventure.
Can’t believe it took me this long to find this series!! Beautiful anniversary road king! I have a 02 RK myself great bikes 💪💪
@@codystrom8708 thanks! I’m glad you found it
Outstanding series of vide, thank you so much, this has always been a dream of mine and watching this has really inspired me. Hopefully one day.
Go for it!
I can’t ride, yes I can, F it I’ll do it. 🙌🏻👍
One of my favorite lines of the whole series…. I learned how to censor words just for that line because it truly encompasses how I felt.
Those metal grid bridges, when wet, can be pretty scary.
Scariest part of the trip… until I reached the Dalton.
It seems like it can become a grind at times, but guessing you will carry the good moments with you forever. Not to mention the challenge you presented yourself with and example you set for your children.
Very true!

I am planning on going from Los Angeles to Dead Horse August 2024. (One month from now). I am on a KLR 650 (2007- Gen 1). I've done round trip Route 66 on this bike, Mojave and Nevada BDR, all of PCH Hwy 1 and Hwy 101. How do you book the shuttle to the Ocean? How do you book rooms in Dead Horse and Cold Foot? I will be traveling with a tent as back up. Also traveling with a friend on an Africa Twin.
You book rooms in deadhorse and coldfoot like you would any other hotel, directly on their websites or via 3rd party 'trip' website. They are essentially the same as large industrial work camps or drilling rig camps appearance wise but they are functionally the same as regular hotels. Book well in advance.
@@Mr_Smarty_Pants What about the shuttle bus that brings you from Dead Horse to the Artic Ocean?
@@adventurevin7600 Iirc one of the hotels up there handles the booking directly, 'Deadhorse Camp' I think. The shuttle would also have a website and phone number I believe to contact directly etc. I"ve never taken it and have only been up there for work a few times.
@@Mr_Smarty_Pants Holy crap! You've worked up there? Well, thanks for the answers. I plan on staying in Cold Foot one night before Dead Horse. Then two nights in Dead Horse and one night again in Dead Foot. I am retired Air Force so I will probably spend two nights at Fairchild Air Force Base to get some good rest and do some motorcycle maintenance.
@@adventurevin7600 ya several years ago now, winters on a rotation on drilling rigs, I wouldn't mind taking a trip back up there in the summer though one day.... maybe on 4 wheels though haha. Sounds like you have a plan....this guy put up a neat video series, was really hammering out the miles too wow, my hat off to him...and on a RoadGlide to boot.👍
I would do it on my dirt bike but not on my Harley, no way!@!
Smart choice. Having done it once, I would love to do it again but only on an ADV bike
Bike Prep: Not Much. New tires, hard bags, tour pack, gas container, change oil, dealer inspection, tighten bolts, hand protecters. Good thing you prepped for that road.
Well when you put it like that… I suppose I did prep the bike a bit
When I got to that intersection to make that right turn for Deadhorse ,, I saw two guys on adventure bikes coming from Deadhorse, they were COVERED in mud so bad you couldn’t tell what clothes they were wearing or what color their bikes were,,, I said NOPE !! My Ultra Limited wasn’t made for that and I knew I would be asking for trouble 😉👍🇺🇸
I'd never admit that kind of thing but each to their own.
An Ultra would be very difficult on the Dalton. Wise choice.
I did that trip in 2012 ,,, Fort Myers to Fairbanks 5000 miles on my Ultra Limited ,, trip of a lifetime,, hard on the bike though,, 😉👍🇺🇸
Right on!
I noticed your wearing a black helmet, black jacket,, your cooking yourself in the Florida Sun ! In this Florida heat I wear BRIGHT/REFLECTIVE Colors ,, it reflects the hot sun and makes me more visible to these wonderful Florida drivers ,, I put on the dark colors in fall when I want the sun to help keep me warm 😉👍🇺🇸
I find the Arai helmet to very well ventilated and the black jacket is a Dianese air mesh… I had no problem with either while moving, but being stopped or in slow traffic was absolutely brutal. I’m not sure color would make too much difference
Cool , I've done it four times on a Harley , first in 1979 , that was a trip for sure .. Hope to go at least once more in this lifetime .. ADV bike would be a plus ..
Cool- I’d love to do the trip again on an ADV
The room in Coldfoot @6:33 looks almost identical (the rooms all looked the same) to when I stayed there in 92 while driving hydro-axe on the Price road project. Made a lot of money there, bought my girlfriend a diamond ring, she married me, 30th anniversary this year.
Sounds like the work was worth it. Congrats on 30 years!
I live in Yuma why didn’t you just stay on the 8 from mission beach to Yuma, there was no need to get off it
I like to ride a mix of interstate and state roads.
Excellent adventure and videos!!! Just watched the series and it was epic.
Thank you
Hello. How much did you pay for bike shipping? Thank you!
I think it was $3500 but I don’t remember exactly.
I found company to transfer my bike from Anchorage to PA for $2000.
Never go through Atlanta, go around on the loops, in west palm, pick up 70 west to 27/98 south, takes you down the center of the state, ( NO MIAMI BS) 27 to chrome 997 to over seas hwy to key west. ( on the northside of key largo, you have to try Bob's BUNs)
Harriett’s is my go-to breakfast spot
What type of books are you buying?
I’m not buying books. All the money donated via the link on my website crunchmoto.com goes directly to Promising Pages and they buy books at a significant discount.
Great video I lived in AK and rode a lot The roads are not great 👍
Great scenery… questionable road surfaces 😁
Crome to 27 good choice if you take us 1 from 17st Ft Lauderdale north though west palm nice estates do it early
Oh ware a camel back down here
Agree about A1A from FTL to West Palm. Used to live in FTL myself.
Kuddos to you! I rode up to Deadhorse about a month before you on a BMW GSA, don't think I would try it on a Harley Road King. We lucked out with the weather, no rain or mud.
No rain or mud? Does that even count as riding the Dalton? Jk, sounds like a great time
@@CrunchMoto I take that back, it was raining the morning we left Deadhorse. It cleared up when we got to Atigun Pass and blue skies all the way to Fairbanks. It was so nice, we rode all the way to Fairbanks in one day.
I noticed the Back of the Dragon sticker. I'm about an hour from it and ride out regularly. I was born in Winston-Salem. I love close to Blacksburg Va now. Pretty awesome to see people close to me.
Yessir- I’m down in Charlotte and take RT 16 straight up. The OTR event is in a couple of weeks. Check it out
@@CrunchMoto I was thinking about going. I missed last year.
Adventure road for those from the outside, road to avoid for the locals in motorbikes

There's no such thing as a "Perfect Motorcycle Helmet". There's always going to be some compromising or a few things you won't like.
I have no complaints about my Arai Quantum X
deleting apps from his cell phone......what a badass!
Danger is my middle name
Hey, just saw your video. Very nice! We live in Clover SC. This August Me and an old Marine buddy from Baton Rouge are meeting in Birmingham, heading up through Michigan then turning west to Jackson Hole WY and back. Plan on taking Highway 2 there and 90 back. Always like watching others on their trips!
Very cool! Sounds like a great trip
That’s what I call an ADVENTURE!! Great videos, hope to see more of your things on two wheels 🛵
More to come! Thanks for watching
New subscriber....very cool ride. Question....you stayed in Key West.....was it hotle or AirBNB? Just heading there in a few days and looking for a recommended place.
We stayed at the Fitch Lodge by Kimpton. Thanks for watching
@@CrunchMoto Thanks...jI came across Part 7 first...wow....and just finished Part 2....and laughing as in Part 7 you have no idea of what was ahead....quite the adventure...
Enjoyed your short video... In 2021 I made it to Arctic circle and had to turn back due to mud/ weather... This July I am leaving Key West and heading north to AK... I pray I make it this time as I will be on the Dalton the 3rd week of July, said to be the bestbtime to ride it... Wish me luck
Good luck!
Did you not make it to Prudo Bay ? Videos abruptly end.
Yes, I made it to Prudhoe Bay. Watch part 7.
Dont do 600 miles days. Dont just cover ground. Covering ground for time is bad.
That is my biggest regret, but as I said, I had to make the most of the time I had.
@@CrunchMoto I hope you get a chance to hook up with the Great American Convoy 2.0 with Adam Sandoval. It starts on July 6th in upstate New York.
@@richpuller1348 To be honest, I rarely do group rides bigger than 3-4 bikes. BUT I firmly believe “to each his own” and support anyone who does group rides, long distance, short distance, bike weeks, solo rides, camping, hotels, whatever gets you on the road!
@@richpuller1348 and, Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Editing takes a long time and I love hearing from people who watch… good feedback and negative.
@@CrunchMoto Many dont like group rides. Step 1. Show up Step 2. Meet the riders. Many are similar to you. Step 3. Give it a try. If you dont like it. Just ride away
Great trip and the videos! I wonder if your MPG issues were caused by higher elevation (less air for the motor) and you riding uphill. Looks like the fuel economy went back to normal after you crossed the Rockies and the elevation dropped. Excessive speed, like you said, can also be a factor. All the best from SFL!
Great point! Could be
this is one of the best put together cross country motorcycle trips that I have seen on RUclips!
Thank you! I really appreciate that, I put a ton of effort into editing.
maybe I missed it in the last video but, what was the reason for the excessive fuel consumption you were experiencing?
Turns out it was just excessive speed into a headwind
Just found your channel and watched through this amazing journey of yours. Wow!
I’m glad you found it! Thanks for watching
I also have a series from San Diego to Jacksonville FL… it was earlier in my RUclips career so some of the editing is quite as good, but still very watchable.
I noticed the USBP patch on your bag, was wondering if you are a former or current agent? I’m retired out San Diego Sector. Like your videos!
I’m not, but I have a friend who is currently an agent. He started in Sand Diego sector but has since transferred to the northern border.
Just stumbled across your channel. Having ridden from Key West to Alaska myself in late June/early July myself, I am looking forward to seeing your trip.
Nice! I see you are Hoka Hey rider. I’d love that challenge some day
Incredible series. Do you still have that 2003 Road King? What kind of condition is it in now? Major repairs needed after that ride?
Thank you. Yes, I still have it. No major repairs needed, but I’d like to upgrade the suspension in the near future
