Was the steering wheel straight?
replaced my steering rack on a 2018 Cadillac XT5. I replaced the motor from my old one to this one thinking about the computer and to save reprogramming issues. I had never done this and just inserted the motor and tighten the screws at the same spots the other ones were at. Now I have a noise and steering feels lose. Is there anything i can do ? Do I have to tension the belt?
I replaced the motor but no change in the steering, should I change the torque censor also?
Secondly I am swapping with complete motor torque sensor and computer module, still I need programming?
Great video, I bought used assembly , this shaft is not going down or up what I should do?
How much is the sensor
good video man, I have done two of these cars now one Malibu and the other was a Pontiac G6.
Did you have a recalibrate the torque sensor before you did anything else
The yellow and red airbag electrical clip on top of the steering column will not come off.. is there a trick to this? I work on our vehicles myself 90 percent of the time..never had a clip fight me like this.. anyone have any pointers before i get crazy on it? Everything else has went smooth so far
After regrouping and deep breaths, i got it
Where are you located so I could take the car to you? 😂 that’s a lot of work.
I can't get the torque sensor back onto the steering column I have two steering wheels in my room rn lol
You said urs was splined idk what that means
😂😂😂😂
😂
Can you Make a video on how to program the new once with a scan tool
How do you know if it's the torque sensor or motor?
The best thing to do is replace it both.. therfore you don't pay twice or do it twice
the only other info that would be even more helpful would be to list the place where you got the part from. other than that great video.
Got it from a pull-a-part junkyard
@@brandonmorrison1409 ok thanks i foud the part on ebay thanks for your awesome video 👍
This video helped the bunch thank you very much
Very good. Thank you.
Brandon Morrison, You did excellent job explaining everything that goes on in this video ! I also have a 2009 Chevy Malibu with the exact same problem . . So, even though I can't fix it myself due to a disability , BUT I learned a lot as to what my mechanic will be going through . Thank you Brandon Morrison ! Have a great week ahead .
Your a great teacher I really enjoyed watching this video and I really learned a lot. Thank your you very much for sharing. Very informing and you didn't skip nothing. I've heard about the new electric p/s but I didn't know anything about them now I know a lot more thanks
You didn't have to get the steering wheel calibrated? I'm having the same issue gm poor design
REALLY Great Video!!!!! Thank you 😊 (I’d of added starting it and showing the system works …. )
my steering wheel would turn all the way to the left or right after installing a oem gm part 3 times and wouldnt let me reprogram. what i did was get the whole power steering assembly from the junkyard for 78 bucks. worked great.
It sounds like your sensor wasn't lined up/installed properly. Very critical for calibrating.
Outstanding video, thank you
I was told that if you take the column out to be sure that the front wheels are straight and to not turn the steering wheel at all during replacement because it’ll mess up calibration
Did you break the clock spring?
Added tip, you can remove the caliper and the caliper bracket together. Depressing the caliper pistons in with the small pry bar is a good idea, then just remove the 2 caliper bracket bolts and the whole thing will come off together. Save a little time and effort. And, anti-seize is your friend on a job like this. But thanks for taking the time to make this video. It was helpful, brother.
You skipped the part about what tool you use to take the bolts out there aren’t normal bolts and I can’t figure them out help
What are those black bolts I almost stripped mine cuz I couldn’t figure out that shape plz help
Having change heater core so have take the whole dash panel apart, so the power steering control was in the way of getting to the brackets that hold dash on back of fire wall.
Thank you for this video, didn’t realize I could remove the top plate!!! Feel like such a dummy! 😅
Ok, that's the universal that lets you put Mutiple ball mounts on it.
The base is for a 2020 Ram 2500. Mounting pattern fits right at the factory dash screws. The mount on that will allow for several other ball mounts on it as well.
Nice explanations. Thanks
When you plugged in the new components did you have to reprogram them to the vehicle or was it plug & play?
Than you so much
Hi. If I have a bad electric power steering motor n I put on a new intermediate shaft can it go bad because of the bad power steering motor. 2008 chevy malibu lt.
Good video, one suggestion would be to actually show replacement of the torque sensor, not just the motor sensor assembly. There are a couple steps for making sure the sensor is lined up properly. Also, after replacing the torque sensor it needs to be recalibrated using a scan tool with special functions for the system to work properly. I replaced a lot of these at the dealer I used to work at.
I noticed that it calls to be recalibrated. Could you tell me if I have to have fix assist scanner to recalibrate or can I just use a harbour freight scan tool to do this? The dealer told us before that they couldn't get a scan tool to work on our car for some reason. Thanks so much if you have the time to respond.
@@christopherw4527 Sorry for the late reply, the notification showed up in a different email folder. I can't tell you if fix assist works or not as I have not used that brand or any scanners from Harbor freight. I've used GM factory scanners, Snap-on and Matco scanners. I would assume any decent full fledged scan tool with special functions menu will be capable of it. A generic Code Reader or scanner that only does powertrain/airbag/abs probably won't because you have to communicate with the Electric power steering module(computer) to be able to access this special function. There are two calibrations to do. One is torque sensor calibration, the other is steering angle sensor calibration. there may be one other one i'm forgetting. Hope this still helps after 5 months
@@brandonlangenfeld9814 Thanks for the reply. I actually have the car still, but it is literally buried under snow which has now turned to ice. I'll be able to check it in another month or so. I'm considering buying high nickel scan tool this spring. I think you are right on the two different calibrations if I remember correctly.
After installing a used lower column/motor assembly, I got everything back to together, it works great. The steering wheel before was very straight now when I drive straight the steering wheel seams to be pointed left bit a small amount. My question: Can the top column be pulled out and rotated (right) a tooth on the spline or is the spline keyed where you can only install one way?
Do you remember what tool you used for the black bolts
@@weecha7063 I only needed to remove the 2 front bolts. I believe they were 13m.. socket with an extension. I did pull and replace the whole column and motor assembly.
@@GeorgeHamberhill thank you
excellent video, did you by chance have a noise prior to replacement .. see the link to my video ruclips.net/video/TRUrHsTMOgU/видео.html
Thank you, that is an excellent video, very much appreciated!
Where did you get the parts? How much was the parts?
I really thank u so much showing to sample remove and replacing the tor and motor on chev Malibu
How can I diagnose if my car needs the motor replaced ? I mean clearly something is wrong with my power steering but how can I see what I need to replace
I have the same issue. My ps just went out but occasionally works then goes back out so I'm thinking it's a sensor first.
did you break the clock spring turning the wheel lol
My car stopped reversing and driving it still turns on anyone know why
Can u offer up part numbers for both pieces
Hi how you pull the Stering wheel out of the other part to replace a torque angle sensor thanks
What kinda bolt is on the power steering to take off
Fr I can’t figure that out plz lmk if you figured it out
Hello do I need calibration after installation
