Is Garrett's Ace Apex Metal Detector right for you?
This is not your right out of the box review. I have logged quite a few hours now with the Apex and I have learned the good and the bad. I hope this review helps you decide if this is the right machine for you.

My Dad and I have always competed in various ways (video games, chess, driving, whatever. Now we have a showdown with the Garrett Ace Apex to see who gets the best find out of 10 targets. Rules are simple, you get 30 minutes to mark 10 targets with flags and then they are dug up one at a time to see who gets the best stuff.

This is the third installment of our Quickdig videos. This video is to feature our new camera mounts that will provide our viewers with a view of the display on our metal detectors. I joined that TH club that Anok is in and I’d like to go hunt in those old areas in the country. Maybe this fall 2024
Why do you need a pulse machine there? A Manticore or Deus II won’t work well?
I would rather hunt there than at the beaches. I’ve watched some Thailand beach detecting videos and it’s just the same tourist jewelry and modern stuff (junk) that we find here in the states.
Do you go on vacation or live there? Are there many other Farangs to detect with?
What’s the soil like I see your 800 is in prospect mode . Did you bring that scoop over or buy it there?
Are you still active on RUclips? As well as are you still traveling to Thailand?
Just found your channel today, do you make any new content anymore saw its been awhike for you, bring it back you make good content.
Minilab X-Terra Pro, Hate to say it, being a Garrett man from the 80's They keep the same shaft from the 80's....Please!

500$ or less beginner metal detecter 13:44
Not true. If price is the only thing you base this on, you're very misunderstood
@@Jbonn6141 huh
the apex reminds me of my at pro all the buttions are the same but apex having more price point you cant beat
Exactly! I have been using it lately to introduce new people to the hobby also. I think it is a great beginner machine that packs a punch and usable for years.
Nice
Thanks
Can u still metal detect or is it a problem. I'd like to come over asap..
You can still detect here but do pay attention to the rules and regulations
There is a tsunami of buddhist amulets and brass rings in thailand but people love buddah so much in thailand only the wealthy can afford gold housings for their favorite amulet to be worn arou d their neck. I have a video of some ancient beads in my collection from thailand which many came from farmers who till the land located near ancient or old temples. They a r e not reproductions as seen everywhere in south east asia. I like your channel. Cool. Chauk dee na krap.
Hi! SO SORRY I didn't see your comments before now. I really need to get notifications set correctly!! Thanks for watching and commenting. Let me know if you are gonna be in country and maybe we can connect.
Cool adventures. Sawasdeee kop sabidee
I've been to Northern Thailand many times in pursuit of ancient beads which we sifted some ancient grounds for artifacts and beads. Do you know what the gentleman did with those rings . Usually they will be sold to antique shops I. Bangkok or they have a broker who purchases them
As to what happens with the items these guys found, I am personally not sure. I was just along for the experience of the hunt.
Great Video. I live in Bangkok but travel everywhere. im working on getting some permissions but i dont have a group. I have a pulse induction machine and would love to connect sometime at your convience. I think the garrett PI machines are all pretty similar but im not an expert. I wouldnt mind trying a Deus in Thai soil but I dont yet own it.
Thanks for watching. You can direct message me on Instagram. Discovered_underground is the account. Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks for watching. Yes. I am still in Thailand on a permanent basis.

Beautiful spot.
Very much so. It’s always a hard decision though. When the waterfalls are running full force, it’s hard to detect. When they are almost dry, much better for detecting but not as pretty to visit.
Hi, My names Scott....your the only one connected to Thailand that seems to know some about Thailand detecting. I take it you have a home in Thailand? In addition to America. I too have a home in Thailand with my Thai wife, about 5 minutes to the Mekong river on the east side of Ubon by Khong Chiam and also live in Hawaii, USA. I have been preparing to adopt this hobby in Thailand. Curious if you plan to do more videos and if you know more about the Mekong River, and making a connection that is acquainted to Thailand would be awesome.
SCOTT! Not only are we in the same country but only a short drive from each other! It would be great to connect. I will be heading back to Thailand in about one month.
Scott, DM me on Instagram at: @Discovered_Underground
You are pretty close to me and it would be a fun and easy connection for sure
Just bought the same detector new to hunting great video very helpful thanks
Are there any detecting clubs in Thailand..?? I'm in Nakhon Phanom
Hi Michael. We aren’t too far from each other. I am in Amnat. I will be heading back to Thailand in about a month. Let’s plan to connect. There is another western guy not far from us down in Ubon.
DM me on Instagram at: @Discovered_Underground
Let’s try and get connected.
The ring with purple crystal would be owned by the military, the Artillery army in Thailand. but not sure of the exact year.
Yes! That is the same thing I determined about it. Thanks for watching!
I am heading to Thailand very soon... Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Phuket... I need any an all advice... even clarification on laws and such that would be obvious... Please reach out
Ryan. So sorry I didn’t see this message. I have been busy prepping a trip back to America. It is almost time to return to Thailand though. Have you already made your trip?
That to think of when detecting in Thailand? First time trying
Great video. Im in Thailand and getting ready to purchase a garret or the fisher pulse. After watching your video I’m assuming i need a pulse machine for thai soil. Look forward to more videos!
Thanks for watching. After more time and experience, I am discovering that the Garrett ATMax and similar machines do work well. You just have to learn how to adapt to the environment. I have gone on to have some really successful hunts since then. If you can afford a PI machine, I think it has its advantages but it isn’t a requirement.
Great video! I've been using my Apex for a year. I've found lots of coins and relics with it. I really like how light it is and recently purchased the raider coil for it.
I really need to snag a Raider coil next time I’m back in America.
Where did you buy it for $140??
Yeah. In the video, I corrected my error with text overlay. I didn’t notice my mistake until I was already editing and didn’t want to reshoot. Ha. Thanks for watching.
What areas are good up here in Chaing Mai?
I have connected with some friends up there who have taken me to privately owned fields. Freshly plowed rice (or any crop for that matter) fields are great if you can get permission. Also connecting with local communities and detecting some of the old forest land that isn’t national park is doable.
I want to avail the machine please email me thanks
Where are you located?
Great video nice small coil must make make lighter 👍.
It is SO LIGHT!!! That is one of my favorite parts of the machine! Very little arm fatigue.
I Think you should get some professional to Look at the bracelet thing
PS Great review! I run the ATMAX but one of by detecting pals bought an Apex last year and loves it.
New to your channel, I thought it was really interesting how you used your shovel as a camera holder - very interesting (learn something new every day!). Cheers, Ro
I am sorry I missed your comment. Thank you for watching! I had forgotten my little gorilla pod at the house and had to improvise. HA. I love my ATMax and it is my go to machine. This makes a great second and really easy to teach to someone new to detecting. I can bring it with and get new folks hooked. Again, thanks for watching.
Hello. First of all: thanks for this video! 👍 I’m Jacob from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 I search with the Apex for a couple of months now. And… some great finds with this machine for sure. Now I’ve decided to buy the largest available coil for the Apex: detech ultimate 33 cm. On the fields were I like to detect there’s another guy who is using the Equinox 800. He finds many more (silver) coins with his machine. Again and again. Now I’m wondering of the big coil on the Apex will make significant difference for me… Or is it better to buy a better machine like an Equinox as well?
I am SO SORRY I missed your comment and question. I would be interested to see what your results are with the bigger coil next to the Equinox. The Equinox is a much more expensive machine as you know and potentially a different class if that makes sense. BUT, it would be cool to see how the big coil makes a difference for you. Swing slow and the Apex will reward you I think. It does not seem to have a super fast recovery speed. But like I mentioned in the video, for the price point, a great machine to get into the hobby with and keep with you a long time. If you do want to move up a "level", look into the ATMax. It is a fine machine and I swing it more than my Equinox 800 most of the time.
how did you get permission to metal detect on land?
The local guys handled that.
Good video, DUG. The Apex is really decent, once a user takes the time to learn it, as you stated. The mix of technology and performance is great at its price point. With the addition of a Raider coil, you can get a bit more depth without affecting the separation much. I’ve been using it for over a year now, and I’m happy with its performance. I’ve found a lot of coins and relics with it. 👍
I wanted to get the Raider but it wasn’t available before I left the US. Someday. Took it to the beach recently and it worked REALLY well. May do an update video with those finds.
Greeting from metal Detector Bali ♥️🥰
Where are you these days? I enjoyed watching your Thailand videos.
Finally back in Thailand. I will get some videos going from Thailand. I finally have a consistent crew to go detecting with here. Thanks for watching.
Good fun!!
Are there people in Chiang Mai using metal detectors?
Yes. There are.
Now I'm wanting to come water hunt in Thailand
C’mon!
Some interesting finds
If you ever find yourself heading over this way, let me know. I promise to find a better spot than last time. Lol.
To think how many times have these fields been plowed, harvested and burned and yet you find these things. Best of luck guys.
Thanks. There is almost always things to be found.
