2021 Turbo Levo - 4 Month Review
Просмотров 15 тыс.4 года назад
We take a look back at the last four months of owning a 2021 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp, largely focusing on what's gone wrong for the bike (because in truth, it's kick-ass good when it's good). I also explain why I haven't made many videos lately, and shout out to Mo Vahedi for asking if I'm okay. Thanks Mo Vahedi! Recent rides I've done with the motor turned off with others: - www.strava.com...
2021 Turbo Levo: TRAIL Range Test, Part 1
Просмотров 6 тыс.4 года назад
Originally, this video set out to continue the 2021 Turbo Levo Range testing. The previous video saw us test the range of the e-bike in Turbo mode for the entire duration, whereas this video (and the next) aim to compare this to Trail and Eco mode, all on very similar terrain and trails to best provide accurate results and contrasts. However, one and a half hours into the range test, we begun e...
Dengfu Frame Review

We review the Chinese-made Dengfu FM098 road frame, based on two years of having ridden the bike 3 to 5 times a week. We explore how the frameset and Novatec wheelset was purchased, how it rode for both racing and adventure riding, as well as how the bike eventually met its demise. Be sure to leave a like, comment on your Dengfu experience, and subscribe for more content in the future!
E-MTB's vs. Regular Mountain Bikes
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.4 года назад
In the video we explore some of the major differences and similarities between electric mountain bikes and traditional, non-electric mountain bikes. As a reference point, the bikes we're *mostly* contrasting are that of the 2021 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp and the 2019 Yeti SB5.5 TURQ. These are the two bikes I have most previously ridden, both electric and traditional, and will be taking these...
2021 Turbo Levo: TURBO Range Test
Просмотров 27 тыс.4 года назад
We explore how much riding we can get with the 2021 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp on Turbo mode, or 100% motor and battery use - the highest level of pedal assistance available. While remembering that the variables within this test are enormous, we give it a go anyway - with similar Trail and Eco modes to have their range tested in a similar environment in the future. Be sure to leave a like if y...

A dedicated video to address the many questions regarding the saddlebag I was using in the recent Tarmac SL6 vs SL7 comparison video - The Cyckit Aeroclam. We explore the Cyckit Aeroclam, addressing both the functionality and aesthetic design, both on and off the bike. We have at the different options available, as well as what can fit in the different sizes. To view or purchase the Aeroclam: w...
2021 Turbo Levo: Trail Riding
Просмотров 19 тыс.4 года назад
We spend the day riding the local trails around the foothills of Mount Wellington, Tasmania, with the 2021 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp. After a quick overview of the bike for those unfamiliar, we head straight out, trying to ride a variety of terrain to see how the bike goes. This is more of a riding video with general commentary, rather than an analytical review. Just a good old day out on the...
2021 Turbo Levo: Battery Warranty
Просмотров 8 тыс.4 года назад
A follow-up to having taken the 2021 Turbo levo Comp to the local Specialized retailer, we explore what eventuated in terms of a full battery warranty. The bike is just under three weeks old, and a replacement battery has been dispatched. In the meantime, the retailer has given me a temporary battery - the entire process has been excellent, albeit the warranty in the first place.
Shimano Steps E8000: Charger Review
Просмотров 6 тыс.4 года назад
We explore the Shimano Steps E8000 charger, with what rather limited exploration we can do. We show you how to use the charger, as well as some minor pros and cons of the charger design itself. The bike shown in the video is a Commencal Meta Power Essential 29.
Should I upgrade my S-Works Tarmac SL6 to the 2021 SL7?
Просмотров 12 тыс.4 года назад
We explore the financial feasibility of upgrading your current Specialized Tarmac SL6 to the newer, 2021 SL7 Tarmac model. A rough overview is given of some of the *major* differences between the SL6 and SL7, including that of weight, aerodynamics, visual aesthetic and components. Both bikes explored are Di2 equipped models. We then get to the elephant in the room - the cost. We weigh up if the...
Shimano Steps E8000: Reinforced Motor Cover
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.4 года назад
We have a look at a cracked plastic cover for a Shimano Steps E8000 motor, and explore the process of reinforcing it with carbon fibre (or fiber for non-Australians) to both save on purchasing a new one, as well as increasing its durability for the long-term. The motor cover has never been impacted from a crash (the bike hasn't actually been crashed), rather I suspect it was caused from either ...
2021 Turbo Levo: First Problems?
Просмотров 18 тыс.4 года назад
In what begins as a minimum temperature test for the 2021 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp battery and motor, we soon encounters some unfortunate circumstances which leave us unable to reach the -3 degrees celsius summit of our destination. After a few hours of riding trails nonetheless, eventually we discover the first two potential issues with the 2021 Turbo Levo moving forward - an almost too sen...
How hard is transporting your e-Bike?
Просмотров 21 тыс.4 года назад
We have a look at how difficult it is to transport your e-mountain bike if you're unable to ride directly to the trails from your doorstep. Using the 2021 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp as our example, we assess how the extra weight of the e-bike affects the different transport positions on and within your car. After a few examples, we hit the trails, albeit briefly, before returning home.
2021 Turbo Levo Comp Pros & Cons
Просмотров 59 тыс.4 года назад
We take a look at the 2021 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp, and address the three biggest takeaways from the bike that I so far have come to appreciate the most I've found since owning the e-mountain bike, as well as the three (albeit very minor) things I've found which could be better. Whilst I could've easily made a video just listing everything that's great about this bike, I tried to be equal i...

2021 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Review
Is there any difference between 2021 and 2022.
You have to hold the button to turn it off, my knee never touches it anyway, the bike turns off after taking a big hit, might be why your buddies think they're accidentally turning it off on a rocky descent.
My wife just bought a beast of an e-bike. Brilliant performance for her, but moving it is such a struggle. I had planned to add a tow bar and rack, but that practically doubles the cost - and we already spent more than intended! Still looking for a reasonable alternative. In the meantime it goes in the back; my muscles are increasing, as is my back pain.
Can the battery be charged off the bike? (ie; remove the batttery and take it somewhere else to charge)?
I'll never forget the guy who sold me my Speicalised Turbo Levo saying "whatever you do, when charging the battery make sure you blah blah blah before you plug it in otherwise it could lead to damage..." I replied with "yeah yeah, no worries and sped out of his bike shop as fast as the bike could go as I was on a crazy high from purchasing my first bad ass E-bike. Eventually the battery drained and I pulled out the big battery pack ready to charge it. I couldn't remember a single word the guy at the bike shop had said about what to do / what NOT to do when charging the Levo so I pulled out the manual and read it in detail. There was absolutely nothing in there regarding what the Salesman had originally told me about the process of charging the battery. So I just plugged it in at the wall with the mains switch off, then plugged it into my bike, then switched it on at the mains. I figued this was the only thing that could possibly stop any damage to the charger / battery. All seemed to go well except the charger itself immediately became incredibly hot. So i sat there' drinking beer, watching the bike and charger for hours in a slight panic before it was finally fully charged and luckily nothing exploded / melted... etc It never occurred to me for 1 second to turn to the internet for advice. That's what I get for being an 80's kid I suppose! 😅 Those battery packs still get super hot though! 🔥
Thank you . I couldn't really find out how long it takes to charge and anything on the yellow changing to Green ...but ya I couldn't find that anywhere... 👍
I can get two 50-60 lb e-bikes into my '04 Prius. I use sheets of cardboard (from the boxes the bikes came in) to reduce the friction and protect the car. One sheet lies flat on the bottom and the bike slides easily in. Then I put the other sheet on top of that bike and slide the other bike in over the first bike (I put the pedal of the bottom bike through a hole in the top cardboard so that layer can lie flat). Of course I remove the front tires. Works like a charm and I'm almost 60 years old. Oh, and pro tip: remove the batteries to reduce the lift weight.
So basiclly all you showed was how to plug a charger in and switch it on ?
Cleaned my bike today and noticed that the cover was cracked. Thanks for the video.Yep. It's super flimsy, unessesarily lightweight. Mine was slightly cracking up, just the screw holes, until I trailered the bike a couple of thousand km. The vibration is the cause imo. There's plenty of room on the inside for glue and reinforcing mat or whatever.
I put my levo on top of my car using a seasucker mini bomber placing it in the Middle spot. I take the battery out and ofcourse the front wheel is off for mounting it on the seasucker. No issues for me.. bike's weight is around 16kg without the front wheel and battery removed 🤷🏽♂️
How are making out using the seersucker rack? Any issues yet?
I struggle all the time with getting the charge port cover to close. Have you come up with anything to help getting it closed?
Love the humor, coffee & brevity. Strong work
this is the most un efficient charger iv used. had to turn it off before fully charged because it got so hot. so much heat loss is un efficient in my view. i no chargers get warm but this takes the piss
What about removing from Frame?? And Charging battery OFF the frame
I always charge my e-bike to full, and use it to 1 bar then charge full.
Wouldn't you want to put the ebike on the rack, then lift the rack and the ebike on the mount on the roof? It's a 2 person job, but it seems better than attempting to Hulk the thing up there.
You can take the battery out
Many people say you must put brake pad spacers if you got hydraulic brakes and take the front wheel off. What do you do? I want to transport my ebike the same way.
You selling the SL6 anytime soon?
Dengfu now makes tons of frames for ebike manufacturers. Wattwagons, lunacycle I believe, a few others I'm pretty sure.
Geez use a damn tripod so you can use both hands when showing something instead of struggling with 1 hand. Using 1 hand to hold the camra makes the video really bad quality with a the movement and shaking.
Just got my Levo home tonight and there is nothing in the manual I received about the motor or battery. What the?
The out put is definitely not unidirectional. It's DC direct current. The power point coment while showing the output plug was irrelevant and to be honest quite bizarre. Domestic power is transmitted or distributed using AC alternating current at very high voltages. Then stepped down using Transformers that you can even see on your street If you look up at the powerpoles. You will see them here and there maybe one per block. It's not described as being unidirectional. One pin is the active while the other is the neutral. As long as your equipment is double insulated it doesn't really pose much of a problem. But it would in certain situations.
You have a great bike. I just viewed your video and I hope you have kept your bike. It is at the top of the food chain. Unless bikes fly you can stop and know your SL6 is the best it will ever be. Just keep it.
As someone who now has tendonitis in his arm from lifting an Ebike in to a pickup truck (tailgate) I can assure anyone else the roof rack is going to eventually wear you down. Also many wagons now in the United States have large glass panel roofs, so if it slips out of your hands it could be a very expensive moment. My elbow is going to take several months to heal, and my truck is a Tacoma which isn't that tall. I simply could not imagine trying to put my bike on the roof of a wagon.
I can get two 50-60 lb e-bikes into my '04 Prius trunk. I use sheets of cardboard (from the boxes the bikes came in) to reduce the friction and protect the car. One sheet lies flat on the bottom and the bike slides easily in (I also put a small piece of cardboard under the bottom pedal so that it easily slides over the main cardboard layer). Then I put the other sheet on top of that bike and slide the other bike in over the first bike (I first put the top pedal of the bottom bike through a hole in the top cardboard so that layer can lie flat). Of course I remove the front tires. Works like a charm and I'm almost 60 years old. Oh, and pro tip: remove the batteries to reduce the lift weight. I would like to put the bikes on the top of my Tesla, but I think I would have to make a ramp that can be placed alongside or towards the back of the car b/c it would be a back-breaker to lift them. Maybe a ramp made out of cardboard and one that can be disassembled for easy trunk storage.
Awesome video! Do you mind me asking what S size have you gone for and how tall are you? I'm between S3/4 being 180cm and it's killing me to decide. Thanks
This model was before the S sizing. This year still used the small, medium, large, XL sizes.
Just got the same bike (in Oak Green) last week as 21 leftover. Some good deals out there if you can find them. What amazes me is the lack of shifting needed. I ride single track without a lot of elevation changes and use maybe a couple gears, but typically stay in the same one. Just hilly terrain you could say. With my analog I was shifting gears every 2 seconds it seemed! I debated for a year to get an ebike, should have done it sooner! No regrets with the Turbo Levo Comp.
I can not remove the battery of my turbo levo Comp Alloy.
2022
Awesome video! This is hilarious. I own an SL6 and only considered the possibility for just a moment of upgrading to an SL7. This puts that thought to rest for sure. I would love a new husky, Pathfinder, mountain bike, jet ski, Oculus, drone, and GoPro instead. Thanks for a great video.
The blinking green bars on the bottom wont work on mine upon plugging the charger, is there problem on my charger?
that port is really bad covered, but so is it with bosch
Nice I’m thinking to get a base tarmac 😊
Does the body of the charger get hot? Mine is pretty hot to the touch. I can still hold it in my hand
I’ve been considering buying a left over new 2021 levo comp but now hesitant even living in a dry climate. I’d say wash the bike upside down after masking off motor; but for the price it’s kind of silly to have to worry about hitting a puddle or the occasional rain.
How much does this weigh?
It's been a year since I bought DENGFU's TTBIKE frame. I have to say that the frame of this manufacturer is highly reliable.
the battery is charging on the go?
Can't believe you are riding it like that 😕 you must really like it
Thanks, some helpful tips, and I enjoy your humor, man.
Does your charger get hot when charging Andrew Evans
Mine does
Mine does. It gets extremely hot! But so far it's not exploded! However I think they should incorporate some kind of cooling mechanism for future battery packs as I'm sure all that heat can't be good for the internal components. Especially for those of us living out in Australia when we hit 40 degree days in the summer! I still bring my Levo indoors and turn on the air-con / fans when I charge it just to avoid the boiling temperatures.
I have this exact same bike, I love it.
Uh. You're aware they extended the batteries and motors warranties for a few more years. Sorry to hear you sold! But bikes a bike. Live and let live.
After charging I note that you pulled out charge cable before turning off at wall. I thought you said it could lead to error codes?
You could clean it
can the battery be charged while off the bike
Yes, you get a special port for charging the battery separately.
@@tomaspov does it mean no if you dont have the adapter?
@@chrismade123 correct , but the adapter will come with the charger so you don’t have to buy anything extra
For me the only teasing that has given me data that is meaningful is my own riding. I have had my 2021 turbo Levo comp for a few months and ridden everyday. So far my daily rides are either a bike path trainer ride or a focused trail ride in both cases the 700 watt battery has had plenty of juice. I use eco mode most because it gives me more of a workout. Your mileage may vary. So far my only drivetrain issues have been on the trail some hard hits have knocked the charging port cover loose enough to cut the power.
Did you get a new Levo? I had my Levo cut power a couple of times and the red light flashed. On inspection of the plug there was blue corrosion around one pin on the male and female sides. I cleaned it s up hopefully that was the issue. I think this is the worst plug design and placement for a ebike .
Lovely to hear from you James. You’re always so positive, it’s uplifting. I’m riding an Orbea Rise at the moment, you should check them out their pretty special. Being so light is just awesome and requiring a bit more physical input is actually a bonus. Thanks for taking the time 😊
What if you didn't own the SL6 but had the option of upgrading your frameset to an SL6 for 4500-5000AUD v the SL7 which is 8000-8700?
