I just did this last night, and it’s amazing!! After decades of knowing that hairstylists would put some sort of “gloss” on my hair to tone it, I knew it was out there but I had been buying purple and blue shampoos. I finally decided to Google it and I did a bunch of searching until I found this video and literally ran out and bought.clariol 5c and followed your instructions and my hair looks exactly like I wanted it to. I read through all the comments so I wanted to leave one myself for anyone who is reading this. She posted this so many years ago so I wanted to leave a fresh comment. @@wendy8561 Its light and dark blonde and now it is all like a cooler version. I think this would work, I would just use it on the brassy parts. Are the brassy parts the highlights? Not the brown hair, right?

Balayage and shadow root aren't the same thing. Balayage is free painting lightener to achieve extremely natural hilites. Shadow root is what this is and before anyone comes at me, if someone is going to put a how to video up for others to follow correct terminology and technique should be used.
It's meant to achieve the "look" of a balayage. Thanks for watching

Forgive me for my ignorance but are you only using the 5c and water ? I’ve never done my own hair at home but I’m looking for that color ? What exactly are the ingredients besides 5C
yes I diluted the hair dye with water.
Those are permanent colors from wella Tho. Those make my roots organgy.. Even when using a 10 volume... I use a demi..

Wow that’s so awesome what a good idea I have been putting a little brown dye in conditioner with some purple additives and a little developer and leaving it on for like 10 mins seems to work but this looks so much easier! Thank you

I don't know if Mandy is a hairdresser or not. Regardless, if Ya'll don't have anything nice to say then maybe you need to put your talent on here. I think it turned out nice either way. I am not a hairdresser but have been to many. Never came home and liked it! I got so fed up with paying for something that I was unhappy with. So, 16 years ago I taught myself. I do my own roots and highlights. I'm sure no one would know I do my own. Point being hairdressers are definitely not perfect either. They usually cover their mistakes with toners, which never last long. I never tone my hair. It's never necessary.
This worked great for me. My hair was orangey-red, golden brown with highlights and now it looks more dark blonde with highlights. I left it on a little longer than in this video, because my hair is darker. A word of warning, though. When I was applying it to my hair, over my bathroom sink, the liquid went everywhere and now I have to re-paint my wall and the cabinet face of my vanity! I tried to wipe it all off right away, but the water makes it look clear so it's hard to see. It also stained my marble countertop and marble floor! Next time I'll do it in the shower. Proceed with caution!

As a hair stylist I'm cringing watching you do this I'm very ocd.i wouldn't even do my own roots as my hair is very thick and sits at the start of my butt! Your hair is very patchy.im not being mean towards you it's just from a qualified hairstylist this is wrong on every level. Sorry to have to say that. 😔
Great job! You painted 🎨 and blended the paints superbly! Only thing was the music was much louder than your soft voice! Even turning up volume your soft voice was lost in the loud music unfortunately so I just had to watch with volume off ! Maybe don't have music while your talking? I would of liked to hear what you were saying! Other than that a great diy! Thank you for sharing your God given gifts with us all! Excellent video/hack!!! You can also mix that and a neutral brown shade with conditioner instead of water and use with a comb to do a shadow/smudge root.
