      Thank you so much for your comment. I'm sorry you have felt lost. Art is not an easy thing to do. We think it is because children do it so freely, but they haven't been burdened by inhibition yet! I wish you well on your journey to rediscover the joy of painting 🤗

    Thank you for sharing this video. I have dyed fabrics but never paper. I am now learning how to make books and I have seen comments of members of a group I'm in using dyed papers. I will try this. One question, and you may have mentioned it, but how long did you leave the papers in the dye?

    • @RoseWildsmith
      @RoseWildsmith 19 дней назад

      Have fun! It’s nice to see the unexpected results from dying your own papers. I usually leave my papers and fabric overnight in the dye, or at least for a few hours. It depends how impatient I am to see the results 😆

    Hello Rose 🌹 you are so creative and an amazing artist! I crocheted for more than forty years (learned how to crochet when I 8 years of age). I agree it is a very relaxing activity. Sadly I tore my rotator cuff so find it difficult to crochet or knit for very long. So I tried stitch meditations (slow stitching) and loved it. Very therapeutic and gentle. I love your hexagon quilt and your wedding outfit ❤❤😍 so colourful and bright 🌞 you are so talented! Loved hearing your story! You now have a new subscriber ❤ thank you so much for sharing

    Yes! Absolutely! This is all so true, Rose. I have all these fears too. I have a huge collection of "collage fodder", and so much of it is "too precious" to use in collages!! It is ridiculous! I will probably never get around to using it all....

    • @RoseWildsmith
      @RoseWildsmith 2 месяца назад

      Ahhh another fear I hadn’t thought of! I also hoard collage fodder and worry about using it up on the wrong piece because it’s the only one. Better to use it than leave it to rot in the cupboard though! If you have very precious pieces you could take a photo of them or colour copy them perhaps?

  • @mariach46

      @sandrafisherhayes3219 2 месяца назад

      I love love love your glasses Rose! Very cheerful and colourful 😊 Re: fears or fearlessness. I'm quite fearless about experimenting with different media and techniques in my sketchbooks and with painting...however it is moving on from that stage and how to utilise these experimental pieces into my artwork where I get stuck if that makes sense Rose? For example my latest obsession is creating momigami and joomchi fabric/papers and knowing what to do with them once they are made...like where do I go from here? The fear of wasting all of these pieces has caused my latest creative block

    • @RoseWildsmith
      @RoseWildsmith 2 месяца назад

      Ahhh thank you for the glasses compliment! I can totally relate to the feeling of not wanting to waste your beautiful hand made papers! I have a collection of those too. I would remind yourself that you know how to make more, and that if you don’t use them in your projects, they will just sit in a cupboard. I also really like the approach of Shelley Rhodes, who will often cut up and reuse old artworks that she doesn’t like to make new ones. She often patchworks together bits and pieces of old work and comes up with something totally new. So that’s another way to look at it- if you make a piece that incorporates the handmade papers and don’t like it, that doesn’t need to be the final destination for that piece. You could cut up little bits and stick them to the front of greetings cards! Anyway I hope that helps and trust me you are not alone! I struggle with all the same stuff and made this video for myself as much as anyone else 😆 xxx

    Really enjoyed this video, thank you. It reminded of using same technique I discovered through my own experimental play years and years ago. The technique wasn't new then and it's not new now but I loved the moment I 'discovered it' just through exploration. It's great when textile artists like Shelly, and yourself of course, share techniques like this so we can all be reminded of them or even better, discover them for the first time. I have Shelly's book... loads of brilliant ideas in there and reminders of some I need to revisit. I feel a grid coming on... it's been a while..

    here in brazil the Hahnemuhle's D&S sketchbook is really expensive... since art supplies here are so expensive we're actually used to a lot worse quality sketchbooks (and other art supplies in general), like the Canson's ArtBook One 100g wich is the most common for people to buy, so really any of the hahnemuhle's sketchbooks are very high quality for us! great video, thanks for the review :D

      Canson Universal sketchbook is the best you can get and it's not expensive. It's better than the Artbook one, the Canson Artbook 180 has exactly the same paper as the Universal but the magnetic strap gets in the way! Get the Canson Universal it's the best sketchbook out there!! I own all the Hahnemuhle sketchbooks and even though the quality is very high, I still use Canson way more.

  • @RoseWildsmith
    @RoseWildsmith 7 месяцев назад

    CORRECTION: I said in the video that dye-na-flow doesn’t need to be heat set, but in fact it does if you want it to be washable. On Jacquard’s website it says: “Dye-na-flow is permanent on any porous or semi-porous surface… it spreads on fabric until it is thoroughly absorbed and even, sinking into the fibers like a dye instead of sitting on the surface like thicker paints and inks. The colors are super vibrant & washfast and will not change the feel of the fabric.” I totally got the wrong end of the stick from this description and thought it meant heat setting is not necessary in order for it to be permanent. In fact in reading further it seems that if you’re not intending to wash it, you don’t really need to heat set it, but it DOES need to be heat set for true permanence. You can easily do this with a hot iron. Sorry for the misinformation!

      Thanks so much for pointing that out- I don’t know where I got the idea that it doesn’t need to be heat set! 🙈 I don’t want to spread misinformation so I will post a correction comment. Thanks for letting me know so gently!! 😘

      @@RoseWildsmith I think it’s fine not to heat set as long as it won’t be laundered or in contact with a fabric that it could transfer on to. Lovely results on the gauze x

    Love the effect but…what’s the advantage of using those dyes rather than say diluted acrylic inks? Is it that they don’t stiffen the fabric? I’m thinking to use acrylic inks on thin plastic & then use the marks left as transfer sheets.

      Acrylic inks would work too, I just happened to have these in my stash. The dye-na-flow is specifically designed for fabric and is permanent (washable) without changing the hand of the fabric. I don’t know whether acrylic ink would be permanent without heat setting, and could make the fabric stiffer as you say. If you’re using it in artwork the difference probably isn’t too much, but if you wanted to use it in textile work and for it to be washable you might prefer the dye-na-flow.
