Watched a few reviews of this and similar books, and one thing I think is being missed is that these books should be seen as erotic dreams, with convenient logic and highly contrived arrangements of circumstances and people. This is not realism, it is p*nography (among other things), and I don't intend that word pejoratively. It is a genre in its own right, and examples of it can be found far back in history. There are connections to Gothic romances, to Southern Gothic, all the way to the subcategory of step-*(brother/sister/father/mother) p*rn on modern p*rn-sites. So, at least for me, what is interesting about this phenomenon is not the vaunted shock value (because it is not that surprising against the background of the genre), but what people are getting out of it. We have a unique confluence of genres (Harlequin romance meets Gothic darkness meets unabashed raunch), and a largely female audience. Books could be written, and I am guessing eventually will be written, on how a large readership is receiving and responding to what can only be called an explosion in the genre of women's romance.

Hope you are doing OK. I have a physical disease ( is that a good way to describe it!) And I get really unwell and it can be really bad for months or years at a time. Being unwell is so hard.

As soon as i saw the Kendare Blake book I knew exactly what series it was. That series was weirdly big back in the day coz the original book was published with three different covers, one for each sister. I vaguely remember it being advertised as having multiple endings depending on which cover you picked but i don’t know if that was true or not
