Training for Hard Enduro (1) - KTM excf 350
Finally got my race license and I'm signed up to my first race. I had a short period of time to get as much bike time as possible. This is the first in a series of this training leading up to the race 😬

    Mate really intrigued about your experience. I am looking to do a similar thing so I'd like to know what made you go for a closed cartridge setup? What are you running for the rear suspension? What is your weight? From your last video I noted to went for softer springs. Can you confirm the springs you finally set on front and back? Thank you in adavmcr 😊

      I have the Tractive Extreme Pro on the rear with a 205 spring. On the front I’m now using 5.6 N/mm. I weigh about 90kg with gear. The whole experience was crap to be honest and I’m still not 100% convinced it’s correct. My advice is to try do the whole thing with a local suspension shop and have them set it up etc. whatever you do don’t go with off-de-road 😂 Their customer service is a disgrace

    Hello Jason, I can't seem to find any information about power restrictions and any other types of regulations for the EU market. All I'm finding is US models with their own restrictions (smog pump, evaporative canister, intake reeds...). I presume yours is stock without any modifications... What does your bike come with and how does it feel power wise (35ish HP?). Greetings from Croatia.

    • @motorbikediaries
      @motorbikediaries Месяц назад

      It’s hard to say, as you say there is so much conflicting info online with US info seeming to make up the most of it. When I bought my bike here in Ireland, they got me to sign a waiver that I was happy for them to ‘unrestrict’ the bike. That meant a map switch and ECU flash, uncork exhaust, reeds taken out etc. I would say it’s maybe 35-40bhp with that done but it’s so hard to know. What I will say is I’ve never wanted for more power while off-road

    • @ivankaraga4216
      @ivankaraga4216 Месяц назад

      @@motorbikediaries Interesting situation with that waiver, I'll have to ask my dealership about that. As far as the power is concerned, I'm not crazy about it either, I'm finding the weight and power of my 790 too much for off road, even 500 sounds overwhelming, 350 would seem right... Anyway, thanks for your time and enjoy that sweet bike of yours 🙂

    • @motorbikediaries
      @motorbikediaries Месяц назад

      @@ivankaraga4216 Ye it was funny, they had already done all the work for me when I was picking the bike up. Just told me after the fact to sign the waiver 😂 KTM clearly make the bike a certain way to get through emissions but have no intention selling the bike like that. I bought from the main KTM dealer here. I get the feeling the Americans have the same issue but unlike here the dealers can’t make those changes when handing the bike over so it’s left to the customer. Speculating here but certainly the impression I get.

    With the rear tyre make sure your not running road pressure. Just drop the pressure a small bit so you can just start to push the centre of the rear tyre in with your thumb then your good for off road and on road. But it makes so much difference to how your tyre flexes off road.

      @@motorbikediaries Question: can you elaborate on why the experience of riding a heavy beast like the T7 is so fun or rewarding on single track? I've watched a good number of your videos and have seen your struggles and triumphs and wonder if I would like the T7? I have a WR250R, which is about 68kg lighter than the T7 and I wonder if the weight or anything else off road would annoy me? Any thoughts/insights would be appreciated!

    • @motorbikediaries
      @motorbikediaries Месяц назад

      @@maybeerainmaybeesnow This is a harder question to answer then I thought it would be 😂 It’s hard to say, it’s a real struggle at times and no fun at all, others I wouldn’t change it for the world. I obviously got my KTM because of the weight ‘issue’. I believe the KTM has made me a much better rider (albeit with a long way to go). The T7 is a real unicorn in my opinion once you understand what it is and stop trying to make it something it isn’t. That was a bit of a learning curve for me, I kept throwing money at the T7 but at the end of the day it’s a 220kg adventure bike with a very mediocre rider at best on it. Get the T7 while understanding it will never perform like your WR however it will take you places it has no right, and that’s where the satisfaction comes. Try bringing it up swampy single track with little momentum and that’s where you will find yourself frustrated real quick. The T7 is incredible on the road and off, the motor is one of the best out there and is well documented as the most reliable. It’s a top heavy bike, and you’ll notice it the instant you throw a leg over, depending on your build it could be make or break. I’m not sure if this answer helps or not 😂

    • @motorbikediaries
      @motorbikediaries Месяц назад

      @@maybeerainmaybeesnow also just to add and actually answer part of your question. Riding the T7 on single track, due to its weight brings a lot more adrenaline at much lower speeds. So you get a great buzz from riding a bigger bike in my opinion. The motor is also really user friendly and jumping it is super easy. I’ve jumped things on the T7 and then try on the ktm and nearly flip the bike. So the user friendly nature is fantastic

    • @maybeerainmaybeesnow
      @maybeerainmaybeesnow Месяц назад

      @@motorbikediaries Thank you very much for your thoughts compadre! The reliability of WRs has been so great for the past 14 years, which is one of the most attractive features of the T7. I've read a lot about the CP2 and look at the T7 just like my WRs, an investment that can last a really long time. I love my WRs, but if I have a passenger with me the single cylinder 250cc is not enough on hilly or mountain roads. I hope to test ride a T7 soon! I have sat on a few T7s before and know that I can lean the bike about 30-40 degrees before I might have to lay it down. Safe and happy riding friend. : )

    i just bought the +25mm CC fork and rally shock from rally raid UK. the shock im happy with but the forks not so much yet. still dialing it in to be soft enough for rough terrain but stiff enough for hard hits. also find its not actually using up all 225mm travel

      Welcome to my world 😂 The springs will definitely become a bit softer over a couple of spins as they ‘bed in’. Best of luck with it

      Not a bad shout actually. I’ve played around with the Tachometer further since this video, it has 3 settings, 4 stroke, 2 stroke & ‘other’ stroke. I was obviously using 4 stroke before but I switched it to ‘other’ and the rpm was reading 2200. I dialled it back a touch to 2100 so I’ll ride it like that and see how it goes. The device might also just be junk 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

      It’s a great spot. Short though, small hills here in Ireland. I look at what’s on offer in places like the US or Aus or even Wales and I find myself very jealous
