Any recommendations for getting the pelvis aligned fit wise? I can only see 1 video on this and cleat staggering was the solution over time. Ex.right ASIS sits further back than the left one.
I would immediately think if I got enough extra money to buy a saddle
I'm 70 with a gut and weak abs. How much does that affect the no hands ability? Seems almost impossible for me.
Terrible video
That emoji is cringeworthy. And some people should start to understand that road bikes are meant to be ridden with the torso at steep angles. Those who complain about neck and shoulder pain and mount short stems in order to ride an a vertical position would probably be better off riding hybrid bikes.
Hey mvm9407, thanks for sharing your opinion. While I agree with what you're saying about road bikes needing a longer and lower handlebar height, the decision isn't always black and white. I educate everyone on the consequences of changing bar reach and height, but you have to consider and respect the person's decision. If they can make an informed decision for themselves then I consider my role to be successful. Some examples: they may not have the means to buy a new bike, or they may have attached sentimental value to their bike. Also, as a health care practitioner I'm happy to take the heat on that emoji if it helps to protect my patients' privacy.
if i move each pedal in 2mm should i worry about raising my saddle height?
Stance width doesn't typically affect your overall reach to the bottom of the pedal stroke.
Very good video. Short and to the point. I’ve been experiencing the same problem with a 110mm stem and been guessing I need a shorter one. I will definitely try out a shorter one, probably 80mm actually.
Did the shorter stem work out well for you?
TY!!
Thanks for your support!
How much does fire/aft play into this especially on a MTB? Also assuming the fit is correct can it come from the body being unbalanced?
Also, when using the 38cm bars, he has widder shoulders, if you measure the white lines going downwards
Cool but WHAT DID YOU DO
I have the same issue and have seen this with other riders. Found it had nothing to do with my fit and everything to do with newer shimano brake hoods. They are smaller/narrower than older versions, thus placing the heal of the palm in that spot. I have two bikes, the same model, everything. One new and one older. Older bike has wider Shimano hoods, no issues. Both bike setup the same.
Hate to disagree but your main focus on fore and aft adjustment should be knee loading....or at least that is I was told by some top coaches.
Yes knee loading is something to tune into for sure. In general, the more aft the saddle, the more hamstrings load. And the more fore the saddle, the more quads load.
If your falling forward, your saddle is too far back.
You didn’t mention how overweight I got over the winter, which I believe is part of my pain 😂. Thank you for this great video, SHOWING the hips.
😂
Hi there. Thanks for the excellent video, although i have a doubt. I have pain on the outside of my right knee. Should I bring the heel closer to the frame or move it away?? Thanks.
If you have pain on the outside back the foot should be rotated heel out. For pain on the outside front of the knee, the foot should be rotated toe out. For outside center knee pain, move the foot away from the bike.
I have weak ankles and have a problem releasing my left foot from the pedal. Ok if I release inward. Harder to the outside, What should I do?
Did you already try loosening the spring tension on the cleats? Outside of that, work on specific ankle strengthening to target that specific movement.
I had a trimalleour fracture 6 weeks ago. I had ORIF surgery. I was just given the ok to full weight bearing. My knee is killing me. I do start PT tomorrow so hopefully they can address this.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
I have knee pain. My knee collapses inward and brushes the top tube. I think I might be internally rotating my femurs on the downstroke. My toes point out so if I reduce stand width too much my shoes/heel strikes the crank arm and even the chainstays sometimes. Any suggestions? Maybe I just need to focus on hip/glute strength to keep my knees more in line with ankle? Thanks!
Thats a great video, with clear demonstration 👍 great job
Glad you liked it!
i will give it a try. just a question, i believe a certain motion of the hips from the back view needs to happen right? i found mine also a little like in your video and lowered the sit height, however still some motion (but not as before) thanks
Yes you still want your pelvis to rotate forwards evenly on each side during the pedal stroke
what about the pedaling strenght during the test.? i noticed that at high load, its much easier to keep the hands off compared to low load or high cadence. i have my seat a way back but still cant remove the hands without a little effort on increasing the cadence...
Yes effort is another variable that will help dictate how to set this part of the bike up. If you race your bike and want to be dialed in during threshold efforts, then the saddle may be a bit more forwards and front end of the bike lower. Whereas if you wish to be more comfortable during an endurance pace the saddle may be a little more aft in comparison.
which length is too short in your opinion?
why do I get extreme pain after only 10-15 km, but only in my left sit bone?
When the fit is not right you subconsciously shift one way or the other to protect your dominant leg, leading to one sided pain.
You're likely dealing with some level of asymmetry with your body.
I have a pain deep in my left glute when putting power out. Im 34 now. Im a cat1 cyclists planning to race again next year. I had to stop racing because of this issue at 25. Its gotten better with a wider saddle and some strength exercises but still comes up when really putting power out. I have a leg discrep on the right but shimming didnt help back in the day. I even rode shorter crank arms on one side to deal with shorter femur as I was told by a cycling pediatrist that I had 8mm shorter tibia and 8mm shorter femur on the right leg. Still never over came it
I believe pain is glute med
I have 100% the same problem. And looking for solution..
@@mangel3490 i just did a clinical bike fit yesterday and actually he took all my shims out. But a month ago i figured out the actual problem. For some reason i sat with my pelvis twisted. So on my right side i pushed my pelvis forward and it looked like i was sitting to the right on my saddle. When actually i needed to push my pelvis back. Make sure you’re sitting square on the saddle. Also my hamstring is weak and the pain was actually at the head of the hamstring and not the glute
@@iananddani aha okei. My problem is also my cleats position. Right on is more closer to the crank and the push me more over to the left. And Then i Get overloaded left hip. But if i change the cleats position on the right. Then i Get knee pain..
I am having issues with knee popping only when going downstairs and riding. Sometimes locking when going downstairs. Also having sitbone pains. The knee cap tracking popping is what worries me. Any suggestions? Can the hips be the cause of all of this pain?
You’re videos are incredible! Hope you return to RUclips 🙏
I wish I had watched this video before I kept jacking up the seat on my bicycle, now I have some serious sit bone soreness. Thanks for your video. I will be lowering my seat and try try riding again once the pain goes away.
Thanks! that works :)
I started with 80 mm, but the bike was not stable on high speeds, after that I set 110mm, it was ok. After 4 months I have set 130mm, because it looks cool and more stable on 60+ kmh. Have no pain, I'm 182cm height on 56-size of the chinese tarmac sl6.
1 have limb length discrepancy.. My right and my arm is longer on the right side.. I try cleat simetric left & right.. Just don't work.. for 2 month, my hip flexor just dying... Because my pelvic is rocking heavy.. Try shim and get hot pain because the spacer.. Last try stagger for and aft ; 3mm, and everything is happy... 😂 Since my left foot is bigger and longer than my right foot... Sound's contradiction... But thats it..
Saves so much electricity compared to the heat pump. Wish it was a little less noisy.
Hiding the head is pretty weird
Hello. How would the fit be for a mountain bike?
Who's going to do all these angles check while sitting on a bike
Hi EC, any chance you could do a reach fit video for mountain bikes?
Wow! Premium bike for a great price!
Yes indeed..I love the content..I just got refitted for my Tarmac sl7 road bike..I ride a 60cm frame and I'm 6 foot 2 with a 35inseam..I swapped out my 110mm stem for a 100mm stem..just that little tweak w seat adjustment made a huge difference..I can ride for over 60miles a day, put down great power and not feel beat up now..
I changed my mountain bikes handle bars which I thought was great until I have upper back pain.
Very helpful thank you
No pain or aches but I constantly find myself slipping forward on the saddle and have to adjust. Tried tilting the saddle backwards but that becomes uncomfortable on the crotch. It's an old rigid Marin MTB riding mainly flat trails (not many hills around here) some road. Overall a great bike but this is only issue.
Shouldn't the leg be almost straight at the bottom of the pedal stroke instead of having a bent knee? Seems like this persons seat should actually be higher not lower
My frame size 46 top tube 50 what size of stem for me thanks for the answer 🙏
I added a seat cushion on my saddle is that ok ? I just need to figure out how to adjust the seat I feel
no, excessive cushioning of the saddle will lose its repulsion and consequently damage the fitting
How would a Q factor affect the sacrum and SI joints? Would a wider one open them up?
Why don't all PT analyze the body like this to determine problem or problems of their clients? My experience has been that they only look at the area you day hurts.
Exactly! Even wher i live in Belgiuim, they tend to just do something they think u have😂
Thanks! I've been wondering if its better to use the foot angle from walking, rather than squatting? I can see that my feet are quite turned out squatting but straight when walking. Do you have any thoughts on this? I get some discomfort around my left knee, but I simply can't figure out what to do with the cleat.
Is that knee chopping inside on the way down normal?
What happens if you struggle to fail the test without having your saddle too low? I guess upper body mass is much less than lower body mass?
