    A vastly underrated learning experience. Do you still use this system? Can you update this?. I am producing a hydro turbine specifically to be used in old water mills here in the UK - of which there are about 10,000. Using it to produce winter heating instead of electricity obviously allows for utility in a low tech mechanisim.

    I was going to comment that a V-belt has some inefficiency to it, but then realised that the inefficiency is loss due to friction heat! That said, to reduce noise, why not mount motor and friction device in-line with a rubber coupling?

    It's not DC my pal. Please do your math correct. It's 3 phase which means to the 2.1A times the 220 Volts you have to multiply it with the Squareroot of 3 which equals 2.1 x 220 x sqrt (3) =800.20 Watt

    He doesn’t sell kits, don’t waste your time writing. And also, do not mount the moving disk Right against the stationary, as he shows. Been there done that ! The keyway of the disks will get destroyed by the steel key, if you do otherwise !. You have to make a large bushing to raise the first moving disk, supported by the bearing. All disks must be very accurately spaced with equal distance on a very tight tolerance, to do well. This is a hard task to build one!

    How is it that you need such a big one horse motor, and can get away with turning it so slow.? The plans I see advise to use a 3200 rpm motor, the painting can design. With the aluminum flashing on the outside canister, and 1/8;top and bottom., with holes tapped in the sides of the disks, for tapping and mounting the flashing.

    I know this is a pretty old video, but you should run the math and experiment more. I wish I had the machine closer to me to test it more . Buy correct me if I am wrong, you said that the friction heater motor uses about 400W of Power ( equals 400W of power consumed in 1H of running, that means that you're using 400W/60min = 6.66W of Power to run that thing 1 minute long.). You're heating 8 Cups of water = 1.9Liters of water in 8 minutes from ~30c to 39c = 9C difference. So 8minutes * 6.66W of Power = 53.28W of Power used to raise the temperature of 1.9L water by 9c. Further you're using 53.28W/9c = 5.92W of Power to Heat 1.9L water by 1c...that means to get the water to a boiling point of 100c you ( 100*5.92W = 592W of Power. I just runned a simple test of my electric heater for coffe.. it uses 1.8kW of Power 1800W / 60 min = 30W of Power per Minute. In 1 minute it heated 1.9L of water from 18c to 31c. ( 13c difference here) . so from 0c to 13c = 30W. ( 30W/13c = 2.3W of Power for a raise of 1c) it would use 2.3W * 100c = 230W to heat from 0c to 100c., yours 592W. By this we came to realize that a electric heater is heating more efficiently then this friction heater. The specific heat of water is 4190 J/(kg*°C). It means that it takes 4190 Joules to heat 1 kg of water by 1°C. Now. I am not sure if your friction heating is starting to heat water faster as time passes. but math should be made and every action of Power consumption should be considered. Please someone correct me

    hi, i wanted to say that this is a good invention from charles Baker that can be adapted for green thermal energy with a VAWT vertical axis wind turbine to move the disk, and also salt as friction material against metal, using molten salt as PCM phase change material for latent heat source or heat storage. also you can improve insulation. this technology probably will be used in the near future.

    the simple version is a ac motor spun without cooling. it does the same, just need to be preheated to work faster. you just use a smaller ac motor to turn a bigger one without the fan and the bigger ac motor will behave like a mechanical heater.

  • @primodernious
    @primodernious 5 лет назад

    leave a air gap between the stationary disc and the rotor disc and the hater will work better and put out more heat and use less machanical force. what happens is that the air friciton between the discs will turn into hot plasma that will self reinforce but the mechanical input become almost zero because the amount of friciton resistance does not increase proportionally to the increase of temperature.

    • @davidheater
      @davidheater 2 года назад

      Hard to fathom “air friction” when you have oil between the disks. Are you recommending not filling oil up to cover all the disks? He mentions oil travel. I’m not clear on whether to cover all the disks,- Otherwise great comments.

  • @primodernious
    @primodernious 5 лет назад

    try just to run a car engine by craking the rotor long enough with the use of a ac motor and see if the whole engine heats up to very hot? pehaps you have to preheat the egine block before atempting this.
