a messy SKETCHBOOK TOUR! 🫠 doodles & drawings from Dec. 2022-Dec. 2024
Welcome to my messy sketchbook tour! Some pages I really like (especially toward the end), and some, I know, need improving...but I chose to share pretty much everything, because it's all part of the process! (The censored parts are simply personal things I had written.)
And...apologies for the less-than-ideal audio...I'm trying out something new and still haven't gotten the hang of it!

It's not uncommon for AI enthusiasts to accuse people who are against generative AI "art" of gatekeeping, but as for myself...that couldn't be further from the truth. Oh, the AI is just terrible at making stories. When it suggests I do a thing, it is wrong some dozens or even a hundred times more than it is right. Its suggestions are context-deprived circular poorly-derived travesties upon language - that said, my husband does enjoy playing with his ‘AI-Dungeon’ and simply delights in the many ways he can break it and shape it. He would rather pursue his own artistic ideal, but works far too hard to afford the time and necessary headspace for the higher creative processes. However, I do use it as a very terrible Labrador-friend of a beta reader, sanity check (wrote a birthing scene and having never experienced such: was adamant that I get it right - even as I have chosen an option related to transverse lie that would be unthinkable to modern doctoring (which was sadly, unavailable)). I use it also as a sounding board for the personal organisation of my wider and wilder ideations, and finally I use it occasionally in the stead of googling for a basic research answer, because between google’s absurd amount of sponsored content (which has made it for me: unusable) and the paywalls across various academia and the sheer time sink written into the websites themselves to better their algorithmic and advertisement performances: It has become the necessary Devil. But there is great difference between using a tool in the manner of a tool, and in pretending it’s writing is better than the many poorly translated Xianxia and Wuxia works I have painfully pushed through in the pursuit of the core conceptions which so thrilled me. Broken English, untranslated idioms, maniacal punctuation: All better than what AI has written in the examples I have seen. Though this might be a poor craftsman’s use of a tool for a job it is very much not the best at. Like a person who wiggles the printing plates and smudges the ink over the whole opposed to the monk who carefully applies every dot and flourish upon his bible. It is entirely possible that there will come a day that an AI is a marvellous brush in the hands of a fabulous artist; when an AI is a magnificent pen in the fingers of a masterful author: But that day does not seem to be today. And should it come to pass, and drive all professional artists and authors out of business, and all the joys of Creation from this Earth: Verily, I shall hobby along, performing a dance in an empty room for none but the pleasure of thineself, and mine few fellow enjoyers of this small and fiscally-maligned pursuit.

    That was very fun to watch. When came out the scooper (no idea what the actual name is), my eyes popped open like dinner plates. I didn’t expect it to transition into three dimensions at all for some reason. This likely shows what a novice I am in artistry. And I am. Only recently starting to make things again, and I like them… but I had to think: what I’ve got going is surely not that unique, but I very much enjoy it. If I investigate the proper way to draw anything as decreed by anyone: will it positively, or negatively affect that core that makes what I’m doing fun? And I don’t know. So I’m going to keep going a while in pure ignorance.

    • @leannedelux
      @leannedelux 9 дней назад

      Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment!! And it's kind of funny, because lately, I've been thinking a lot about enjoyment of art vs. worrying about "getting better at it." I'm so glad that you are getting back to making things, and that you are enjoying it! And I totally get your concern about how learning more might affect the way you view your art. I think you've got a great attitude right now....learning can be great, as long as you keep that spark!!! I really think when it comes to art, you should do what feels best to you.

    • @TalesofTheEndTimes
      @TalesofTheEndTimes 7 дней назад

      @ I appreciate that ^_^ I think I might be a slightly silly to stay completely ignorant. As long as it enthuses me to continue, and does not subsume my own authorial/artorial voice: it surely should not hurt me to enjoy a ‘taste’ of others’ amazing crafts. I must keep it in mind: there is great difference in sipping the sparkling waters of artistry, and in drowning myself in those wondrous waters. Ado inspired me completely to return to writing - a Songstress. As such: Inspiration and Enthusiasm are available to me from many persons, and if I should feel immersed in my artistic pursuits all the more as a result of having witnessed the joys of the extraordinary and effortful… then as with Ado: I should not be afraid to share what I have so delighted in, even if it should quite frighten me to display my imperfections - is not all art only complete when the artist says ‘this is good enough’ or ‘I cannot do better here’? I cannot know what a proper artist, with a proper education and a long-drawn-from practice might say… for my few scratches cannot measure up before such mastery as I have seen in the works of others. And yet, I do so endeavour for completion, if only along the lines of: ‘do I enjoy it enough to put it in my books, and share it with the world?’ As long as I can say ‘yes’ to that question, I will for now have my answer. A very good friend of mine, and the very best Artist I have ever known, I approached for an opinion; for I wondered if I was performing Sins upon artistry that which I might never have lived down. Though I was embarrassed to present my little chicken scratchings to one who can draw worlds out of nothing: She said it wasn’t bad. … And also that anyone who is so bothered by my drawings that they refuse to read my books because of them: is just set on being miserable! I enjoyed the passion with which that thought was expressed very much! So, I will continue to move forward in a way which I am so enjoying, and it is my hope that I shall ‘improve’ with time (as measured by my becoming better at creating the things I wish to create). But I will also subscribe to your channel, because I think it is worth witnessing amazing artistry, and hearing from voices that are genuine and passionate. :) Thank you for all that you do.

    This is great advice except perhaps if the artist is concerned with making money. Then the words "Art Style" usually equate to a marketable brand. Because an artist's work has to be instantly recognizable as that artist's work in the marketplace. That is the way the system has commoditised artists.Though really, art should be about transformation rather than transaction.

      @@leannedeluxIt's exactly the reminder I needed 💕thank you What workedbest for me in the past was drawing for 5 minutes daily and then if I wanted to draw more and had the time, I would. I defaulted to figure drawing because the first time I got into drawing daily was for Figuary and it was helpful to just go to a reference site and draw a random subject without thinking too hard about what to draw. Figure drawing is also a fairly well-rounded practice because you get anatomy in addition to light/shadows, perspective (foreshortening) in some poses/angles, different textures of hair, expressions, etc. I made a lot of progress just day to day when I was doing it. The hardest part was getting into the habit and that's why just 5 minutes was the goal. Off day? Still successful as long as I tried for 5 minutes. It's all about those baby steps for me.
