WHY DO I COLLECT MOVIES? CHANNEL UPDATE!
Awesome collection and really well organised and displayed. Enjoyed watching this first view of your channel and have subscribed. I haven’t uploaded a collection video of my physical media but hope to soon. Will check out your other videos. Thanks for uploaded and keep up the good work. Best of British to you, collector across the pond :)
@@PFCollectorAdam thank you for watching, subscribing, and taking the time to leave a comment. This was actually just a quick glance; I’m planning on doing a more in depth one soon with some minor changes.
Great pickups, i also picked up and watched Bound recently and it is Amazing! Also congrats on the 1000+ subscribers
@@ReVision.. thank you! I also watched Bound and yes it was great!
Sounds like you have a region free blu ray player
@@ositofreitas yeah I do.
Ok so these are DVDs? Audio books? 50 percent off Barnes n Noble’s what? Books ? Not sure what we are looking at.
@@charlesking8943 if you don’t know these are movies then ur on the wrong channel dude. I can’t help stupidity.
@@cinema.inspired I’m not, I’ve never seen discs in a square. Is that something new. I know DVDs that it. But I’m not rich so I don’t have a blu ray thing.
@@cinema.inspired and insulting me doesn’t answer my question. It says something about you , not me. If someone doesn’t know just tell them it’s a chance to educate not brush your own ego. So fuck off.
Jonathan Demme's SOMETHING WILD is the best Criterion
@@yournamehere6002 it was great!
only thing missing is lifesized card board cut outs of your favorite movie characters
Sweet haul man, I don’t think I’m going to be upgrading my Blu rays to 4k but if I had to pick one to do it it would be for Princess Bride. The book is thicker and I’m sure the film really benefits from it the 4k. I’m with you on Blue Velvet. Love the performances.
As someone who picked up the 4k of Trainspotting, I wish I'd gotten the blu ray instead for that exact reason.
@@181andbeyond yeah it was a miss from Criterion on that one.
@cinema.inspired man, I'll be honest, o hate the princess bride book packaging as well and am a bit bummed that when it was released on 4k, the 4k got the book packaging and the updated blu got the case.
@@181andbeyond I don’t mind the princess one actually. It fits well with the other digipack ones. I personally rather have all the releases in regular cases
@cinema.inspired that's me. Plain and uniform. I'm boring though. I don't really even like slipcovers, haha.
@@181andbeyond lol I know what you mean.
I'll take the American version of Funny Games. That film was suffocating. Michael Pitt was brutal while cheeky
@@duewhit310 I need to check out the American version for sure
Sale still going? National?
@@duewhit310 lasts until the 28th of July, United States only for Barnes and Noble but I’m only about two hours away from the border.
Nice! Thanks. I had difficulty with BV and quite a bit of Lynch. Twin Peaks i kinda like. Currently rewatching season 3
@@duewhit310 twin peaks is one that I really want to watch. I’m not a huge fan of shows but that’s one show that peaks my interest.
i did the same with trainspotting. it’s one of my favorite films but the 4k packaging was so weird i just picked up the blu-ray
@@Lucas-6677 glad I’m not the only one lol. Still need to check out the movie but heard great things.
Great haul! Floating Weeds, the silent version is really great. It opened my eyes to how great and deep story telling can be even without dialogue. Worth giving it a shot even before the remake. Since you mentioned stories about racism, I would recommend A Dry White Season. I got the new BFI release of it, but it’s in the Criterion collection as well. Glad to see that you’re making more videos recently.
@@CineArtTherapy thanks for the info, great to see you leaving a comment again. I will check out the silent version, it sounds great. I’ll have to put A Dry White Season on the watchlist, had never heard of it.
@@cinema.inspired Thank you. It was nice to have an opportunity to comment 🙂 I watched The Lost Weekend in the cinemas last weekend and thought of you. An incredible film. I learned about it from your video discussing Billy Wilder films.
@@CineArtTherapy I remember talking about that one! Such a good film, wish it was discussed more. I hope you’re doing well
I also have discovered so many new favourite movies from Criterion blind buys and these B&N 50% off sales are perfect for those finds. If you love movies about the holocaust I can warmly recommend Son of Saul and Zone of Interest if you havn't seen them. Don't think they are in the collection though but they really should be! Both are really great and powerful in their own way.
@@LinouGertz I think Zone might eventually join but yes you are right, so many great blind buys!
I thought I picked up a lot of titles but you got me beat. I have picked up quite a few releases for The Criterion Collection sale this go around. So far I have watched two of them. There are 2 more titles I'm debating on getting right now or not (Straw Dogs [Blu-ray] & Dead Man [Blu-ray]). 4Ks: After Hours Blood Simple (This was a first-time watch and it was good. 7.5 out of 10) Bound Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Mean Streets Night of the Living Dead One False Move Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid Risky Business (Preorder) The Others The Roaring Twenties To Die For Blu-rays: La Bamba Miller's Crossing (Another first-time watch and I really enjoyed this one. I previously owned the regular Blu-ray but never got around to watching it. 8 out of 10)
@@Movie_Collector_Maniac that’s a lot of great titles you got. Blood simple is actually my second favourite coen brothers movie.
Princess Bride is indeed my favorite. I also just grabbed Mulholland Drive, have not seen it yet though. Daddy Longlegs is solid. Safdie brothers haven't disappointed me yet. I want to grab Exotica. Happy Criterion season brotha.
@@hardcopyblus thanks for the support as always
Mulholland Drive is my all-time favourite film 😊
It deleted my other comment for some reason but I love so many of these. Blue Velvet is in my top 5. Trainspotting is in my top 10. Videodrome and Funny Games are bangers. Bound is awesome, just got my Criterion copy after having not seen it for many years. Love Japan but need to see an Ozu still. Need to see Exotica as well as a fellow Torontonian :)
@@hvitekristesdod glad you enjoy so many of these films lol!
Funny Games is wonderful, not sure why Haneke decided to remake his own movie. I guess for the people who don't watch foreign films. 🤣 All That Money Can Buy was pretty good. I might have to re-watch Insomnia because the title really bothered me. Where the hell was the insomnia?! I wish they titled it something else.
@@Holland_Oates was I right about funny games being a like for like remake? Insomnia I really enjoyed, give it another go without that mindset lol
I haven't seen it but everyone says it is yeah.
@@Holland_Oates I was hoping they would make a release with both versions but guess they couldnt get the rights for the remake?
@@cinema.inspired I seen both and yeah it is pretty much frame for frame the same. Mostly just another (american) actors.
Very nice haul. Bound is one of my all-time favorite movies, so I'm happy to see that you got it. And so happy it's now part of the Criterion collection and is getting the recognition it deserves. Mudbound is very good. It's directed by Dee Rees, who also directed Pariah, another great movie that has a Criterion release.
@@r1133 I’m actually in the middle of watching Bound right now!
Nice haul buddy
Great pick ups girl fight is Michelle Rodriguez only film where shes the lead actor
@@chrissoto6331 it was also her first major role wasn’t it? It’s before the fast series.
@@cinema.inspired yep before it all went down hill
@@chrissoto6331 lol yah not a fan of that franchise really
@@cinema.inspired i mean her career look at her record lol
video was so good until you said “unfortunately some ppl only like marvel movies”. like what was the reason for that? could you be more pretentious?
@@planthill954 what’s wrong with saying that? It’s true. Some people only do like marvel movies and those types of films. I have a friend who only cares for super hero films and large action films like the Godzilla vs Kong stuff. I say “unfortunately” because I believe if some people gave other types of films a try, they would find so many amazing films and genres. Before I even got into collecting movies (about 5 years ago now) all I really watched was Marvel and the occasional new big hit and now I’ll watch everything. That comment wasn’t made in “pretentious” manner.
Love seeing your new additions through a showing of your complete collection.
@@PureHangout thanks for watching man!!
@@cinema.inspired sure thing - watched/listened while building the girls’ new bunk beds. 😆 dads gotta find creative ways to get their RUclips time in 😂
@@PureHangout ahah for sure man, time is way more limited now but it’s worth it.
I don't think you're supposed to just collect every Criterion film, i agree that it should reflect each individuals taste .
@@spoonermum I’m glad you agree! Of course it looks beautiful on the shelf but I rather sell it to someone who will enjoy the film more than myself and I can use that money to put towards another. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video and collection! Thanks for sharing. Hope you are enjoying the current sale.
@@20thand21stMovies thank you
Carnival of souls and Eyes without a face are two of my all time favorite older horror movies! You gotta watch Seconds, it’s a crazy sci fi movie with an amazing twist, also Lost Highway and Cure are a must! The one I would recommend you pick up on this sale is Bound, if you weren’t planning on it already, great collection man
@@MovieMadness676 bound is on the list for sure! Seconds I’m interested in diving in without reading anything on it, I’ve heard it great.
Incredible collection
@@chrissoto6331 thank you my friend.
Pale Flower is fantastic slow burn movie. Visually rich B&W, bare bones soundtrack, Japanese gambling game that I don’t understand. It’s a gem. I absolutely adore it but fair warning, the few people I’ve recommended to don’t like it cuz it’s “too boring” 😑
@@Blammo94 nothing wrong with a slow born but I need to check it out for sure! So many titles, it becomes so hard to get to everything
Not finished watching yet but I’ll be watching in pieces. This might’ve inspired me to finally make one of my own 🤔
A true Criterion enthusiast. Thanks for giving your time to make a video of this length.
@@hardcopyblus Thanks vin, and thanks for all the recommendations lol.
Mulholland Drive is my favourite film. Don’t own a ton of these yet but working on it. These are the others I own or will own soon: Blue Velvet Twin Peaks Y Tu Mama Tambien Videodrome Naked Lunch Cure Fantastic Planet Seven Samurai Ghost World Memories of Murder Miller’s Crossing Funny Games The Piano Teacher Blood Simple Bound Paris, Texas Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down Hausu Trainspotting Lady Snowblood Secret Sunshine
@@hvitekristesdod that’s a great collection so far! Bound and funny games are on my list to grab. I love Videodrome
@@cinema.inspired Awesome! Cronenberg isn’t my fave overall but Videodrome and Naked Lunch are really great
Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down was a bit of a blind buy recently, but the director Almodovar is excellent, I also recommend his films The Bad Education and The Skin I Live In
@@hvitekristesdod Videodrome and the fly are my personal favourites from him. Videodrome is a 4k I’m grabbing this sale. I just sold my Bluray copy.
@@hvitekristesdod I’ll check tie me up first.
The Funeral is Juzo Itami the same director as Tampopo. Decent film. The Trial is a trip. People don't like the ending for Midnight Cowboy?! It's perfect!
@@Holland_Oates I’ve heard some people complain about the ending but I agree, thought it was the best way to end it really.
Nice video
Thanks
Did you really watch The Return of the King (the third movie) first? or was that just an error?
@@ReVision.. thanks for pointing that out! I watched fellowship of the ring. I may have just put it in the box set incorrectly.
Those LOTR DVD sets are great. I had them back in the day but sold them 😢
@@hardcopyblus they are beautiful! They are cheap used tho, they were about $10 each but I paid $35 for my set with credit
Great haul! Love Lies Bleeding is my favorite movie of the year so far, so really cool to see that you got that. Definitely show it to your wife! Also, just wanted to say, in a previous video you said you doubted that any women watch your channel, but that's not true. We're out here!
@@r1133 I will be showing her for sure but she’s not too big of a a24 fan after men lol. Oh lol well thank you!
Awesome little haul
@@chrissoto6331 yes sir! Thank you.
Nice haul 😁
@@kylehartman2627 thanks buddy.
Monkey Man and In a Violent Nature are my favorites of the year so far. Have fun smuggling Criterions out of the country.
@@Holland_Oates monkey man was a blast for sure. lol thanks Holland.
Damn that Pan's Labyrinth steelbook is beautiful, and that Ratatouille segment def cost you with the wife.😬😬
The Pans one is incredible, matches the film perfectly and yah maybe I slept on the couch lol

Yes
Eternal Sunshine is an excellent film, definitely watch it 😎
Will do!
@@cinema.inspired Awesome. My fave Charie Kaufman is still Synecdoche New York though 😁
My fav steelbook is Fury. I believe it was the Target release. Nothing has topped it for me just yet.
I’ll have to search that one but I think I know which one it is.
the evil dead and lion king are the two best looking ones.
Yeah those are fantastic and both great movies too. Thanks for checking out the video!
Nice stuff. Really dig that Pans Lab and Eternal Sunshine. 😍
Yeah both are incredible! I really gotta check out the movie itself though for sunshine
I like the coco steelbook
Yah it’s really nice!
Nice steelbook haul
Do you really saws all this movies at the month maybe?? Or just have like storage one jajaja
ahah this month was a big one. I didn’t watch all of these pickups. I have 925 movies in my collection. I have watched and reviewed on letterboxd 72% of them so slowly I will continue
I love the Archive collection, a couple of suggestions that I have for you are The Hidden (1987), Papillon, The World According to Garp and The Man With Two Brains 👍
Thanks! Ive heard of the hidden but never of the other films. I appreciate the suggestions!
