We bought 25 lower hour RAAF airframes, 17 to fly, 8 for parts/training. These jets will be flying through 2032. Fifty years of service for the type.

Can't get parts for them anymore. They are obsolete.

I'd assume that L3 did the 94 birds that got HEP-1 mods and are currently working on the batch of 36 lowest-hour Hornets that are getting HEP-2 upgrades. HEP-2 was scheduled to IOC in '23. Pretty deadly bird. AESA radar allows full range AIM-120D3+ envelope AIM-9X Block-II make the Hornet a potent Air-AIr threat and with the new AGM-158C JSOW Joint Stand Off Weapon with its "break down the door, enter, then detonate" 2 stage BROACH warhead. Same warhead tech displayed against Russian navy-Storm Shadow. Precision guidance and up to 130 kms of standoff range. Impressive capability for Canada.
