Sony PSP 3000 - How to replace super capacitor - Won’t keep date/time

This is how to replace the CMOS on your PSP 3000 motherboard. If it’s visually bulging or leaking, this is the cause for if your system won’t keep a date/time at setup when you remove the battery. It can also be the cause for if your system sometimes won’t turn on with a generic battery and won’t turn on with the charger plugged in, but sometimes it’ll work fine (weird issues like that).

If the charge light comes on solid, but won’t turn on, you’ve likely got a bad power switch. Would this method also fix it if it's making a whirring loud sound while playing a game that doesn't skip or anything? Mine does that and it's highly annoying
Thanks for uploading this video it worked out perfectly I was able to fix 2 of my psp handhelds question with this fix will it be fine now or it is temporary fix will the oil dry up and it go back the way it is again? By me using the multipurpose oil I used like in the video?
Enough time hasn’t passed since this video for feedback to come out on durability, but I’d say it’ll be good for many years. It would be more likely to get loud again if the umd drive compartment is exposed to a lot of debris.
Hello, can you help me with this? I have a PSP 3000 it won't charge and won't turn on when plugged in without battery. The battery is new, and it can turn on with battery only. The charger is also still working, tested with other PSP.
@@IzuLeMat it could be a bad charge port or charging fuse. It wouldn’t be a bad super capacitor if you’re able to turn it on with a charged battery. If it’ll shut off after a few minutes with the battery and not be able to be turned on right away again, then it’s likely a blown charging fuse that then caused damage to a chip on the motherboard. This is most common to occur on the TA-095 motherboard and isn’t really repairable
I love that board holder dood!
my psp won’t turn on at all. no charging light either for both charges…. what should i do?
If you’ve got a good charger, then it could be a dead motherboard or a power switch that is either defective or the flex cable tab isn’t fully closed.
thanks man
Much appreciated brother!
FINALLY IVE FOUND SOMEONE WHO EXPLAINS THIS, thats so muchhhh
Thank you! I just tried out a game i picked up and my trusty ol psp's drive was screeching. I applied oil to the worm gear and it fixed most of it, then found your vid, didn't know about putting it on the back left, fixed all noise, thanks again!
Thank you for the video - Just try it this morning - 2hours work 😂- First time and it's successful- Thanks again
Thanks dood!
For anyone that came over here and is too scared to take their PSP apart all I did was bang the side of it and eventually it read it so give that a try
So.. not worth it.
Awesome! I don’t mind taking apart a console but forget about having to take apart a hand held. Thanks!
Thanks bruh my psp 3000 been making this noise for years and never knew you could silence it. Now it’s quiet as a mouse
Dude, you have saved me from buying a replacement Mobo, I'm straight but I'm literally ready to get down to my knees lad 😂 I owe you one
Where did u buy that screen and is it oem ? And if not is the quality good ?
The screen is OEM from a part-out that I did. I don’t sell too many OEM screens off and I believe the generic ones are decent quality (just expensive)
👌
THANK YOU!!!! literally was gonna buy another psp because I didn’t know the fix. This always be in my Playlist
Thanks a million Blake!!!
Thank you so much bro now i can use my psp
Hi! How can I message you to show you my PSP and could you tell me what’s the problem with it? (Not sure if it’s the charger or the battery) thanks!
My right buttons stopped working. already changed flex cable and console power on but no right buttons. You know what can do?
Will this fix the constant battery drain?
Nice, thank you.
Anyone know a transparent shell for psp go?
Thought i might have had a faulty battery turns out some how it got knocked loose and i just needed to re adjust it so the battery was touching the connectors 😂
Thank you !!!!
I checked your store, but I dont see screens for the Vita 2000 listed on it. Do you have a recommended seller that I might be able to use for one?
I haven’t tried any new generic ones due to them costing too much. I get all of my screens from part-outs. I’d assume most generics are fine though
How does the replacement psp go screen on your website compare to the oem screen?
I have psp 3000, a problem is i switch to a new battery cause my old one run out of battery so fast. The problem start after putting the new battery on it won't charge properly sure theres an orange light that means charging but it turn off after a min of so besides i cant charge it without the battery so any recommendations on fixed?
You’ve likely got the TA-095 motherboard that has a blown charging fuse and an overheating issue that cannot be fixed. So you’d have to replace the motherboard
@@blakeblundell9001 thanks
Thank you! I followed your video and managed to succesfully changed my shell.
I bought a psp 3000 from mercari Japan and they said it was a new battery and it was tested to make sure it worked.. I got it and the charging doesn’t even work with the battery or no battery… I even tried usb. Should I buy a new charger and battery or what should I do? I’m pretty sad since this is my first time buying a psp and it’s not even working 😕
If it won’t turn on with the charger plugged in, then it could either be a bad charger or a bad motherboard (more likely if it’s the TA-095 version with no antenna at the top left corner of the battery compartment).
@@blakeblundell9001 I checked the battery compartment and it does seem to have the antenna, it’s green right? Does this mean it could be the charger? I might take my chances and buy a new charger
There will be a green or blue motherboard at the top right corner, and then the antenna would be green at the top left corner. It would be the cheapest option to order another charger and hope for the best
@@blakeblundell9001 okay, thank you. and I rechecked, it does indeed have the antenna, thanks for clarifying. I will buy a new one and let you know how it works in a few days
@@blakeblundell9001 hello! Update here, I got a brand new charger for it and I charged the psp on with no battery and it WAS indeed a faulty charger! I’m glad it wasn’t a motherboard issue. But thank you again!
Is the quality of the screen the same or you can notice the pixel not that great?
@@MagielynMacalinao it was replaced with a used OEM screen. I haven’t tried any generics
hello friend I would like to ask I have the psp street and when I go to open it the sound comes from the speaker but the screen does not turn on.
You’ll have a blown backlight fuse, which is located near the power switch. These often blow due to the battery being connected when disassembling or reassembling
@@blakeblundell9001 is there a way to make it?
thank you
Is the supercapacitor the same as the psp 2000?
@@pepe-kh5bo they have a different location and the 2000s have a different design for the mounting points. The 1000s and 2000s have the same design
This is a great video showing how to replace the shell and screen together. I bought a used psp go on ebay and when I got it the back of the shell was gross and the screen had a big scratch on it. Bought the replacement shell and a replacement screen. My only critique is you forgot to put the black film and the wireless button holder on the backplate at the end. Realistically you don't need it for functionality anyway. I like how you suggested using the original buttons and switches. At first glance you don't notice but after closer inspection you can tell the quality of ones in the kit are quite worse than the originals. I installed a new red shell and kept the old white buttons and it looks sick. I think the worse button is the ps home button. I originally put the one that came with the kit on and then decided to put the original on because it fits way better.
You're the only one who mentioned this. I owe you my life 💏💏💏💏💏💏💏💏💏💏💏💏💏
Actual lifesaver oh my god thank you
Okay so my little tab is broken. The one that you lift up and down to put the ribbon back. Is that bad? the cables still goes inside just fine and it’s snug. But touchpad doesn’t work.
@@alexjacksonjr35 maybe putting some electrical tape there might give enough pressure for it to be recognized. Otherwise you’d have to replace the port, which is rather difficult
thanks, the way you did it, worked perfectly for my psp
Does this work for a red shell?
Is it possible to only replace the outline of the screen ?
No, you have to buy the whole front plate assembly or a donor console. It seems there are difficulties with assembling the touch and lcd screens. I haven't found anyone successful in replacing *just* the screen.
@@dannyfenton9335 Damn this sucks because I have a white faceplate and I don't wanna spend 60$ to have the white glacier version
@sattyaratowski6098 Yeah, it's kinda unfortunate it was designed this way. Although I think Sony never really intended the vita to be repairable to a large degree.
thank you for this, made me realize what i did wrong
i like these bootleg shells, it's a clever way to show it's not genuine, cuz it's a color it was never in, so it's not fooling anybody on that front, and it gives an older handheld that was only ever in 2 colors some new flavors! And it looks like they're damn nice looking as well, logos and everything.
What i did with mine was keep pressing the memory card in the slot about ten zillion times and it improved. After a while it stops reading again but now i only need to remove and replace the card about once. Maybe as time goes by doing this itd become completely normal. Maybe it gets cleaned
Just came here to say that I purchased from your shop and was extremely satisfied! Love my PSP Go, was a dream deferred as a child and I love it. Thank you!
For anyone wondering what the specific cell is, its a Panasonic EECENOF204J2 3.3V 0.2F Super capacitor. Its really hard to come by, BUT the EECENOF204J1 works as well and that is what I used to replace mine on my PSP 3000.
Do you think this kind of glass lens could work for psp street (e1004) model? Thanks!
@@Doov007 yeah you can install it on a street. There’s just more of a gap around the lens once installed, so try to keep the glue closer to the outer edge so it’s less visible
