Whisky Uncorked
США
Добавлен 26 сен 2023
The one thing I like almost as much as drinking whisky, is talking about whisky. Join me as I continue to explore the expansive world of whisk(e)y both home (USA) and abroad. I love Scotch, Bourbon, Rye, single malts in general, rum, mezcal.... and basically everything in between. If it's good, I want to try it. If it's weird I want to understand it. I will do reviews, podcasts, and eventually livestreams with a long term focus of discussion based content. Slainte! Cheers!

I’m happy you’re covering the independent bottlings. They save us enthusiasts some money when wanting to try something different from a distillery. I agree with the pricing of these 18 year+ IB Scotches. The value isn’t there anymore. Sub 15 year they were worth it. Now pricing is insane.
I got this one and a Distiller edition before the price hikes from the pandemic. I’m one and done with them. They’re ok, but it’s not worth the money now..
I had a Thompson Bros 6 year old, that was actually a 12 yr Macallan. Somehow a little 6 yr grain whisky got into the barrel. I don't know how that happens, but it was a banger scotch for the price.
Love the review. I have never had a Thompson Brothers, Redacted Brothers here in the NY area, that wasn't worth the price. They're a tremendous IB. I've always enjoyed Bowmore so this is absolutely something that will be on my radar.
Enjoying this one myself. It’s an oddball, but once you get into it there’s a lot of charm. Leathery for me; new shoes from a box. Heaps of overripe fruits as you say too. Enjoying sipping along with you. 🥃
Recently been to a whisky festival, where I finally managed to try and analyze the whole Springbank range (liked local barley the most), ardbeg, glenmorangie, Glen Scotia, Ardnamurchan, Arran, Glenallachie, and Bruichladdich. And Bruichladdich easily beat the those, (I prefer Malt forward whisky), and from the Bruichladdich range, I like the Local Barley and Bere Barley the most. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend getting those two and comparing it with the Classic Laddie, if you like Classic.
:D
Sounds fantastic. Glad that TB is still doing right by the enthusiasts and hope I can grab this at some point or something similar. Happy new years everyone!!
I was able to try this in the shop in Dornoch, and was really hoping to like it and purchase the bottle, but ended up walking away from it. It was the 80s Bowmore character I think… I’ve never been a fan of that violet perfume note. Nice review!
Best WOTY review this year! PC18 is, hands down, my spirit animal. (HiProof still has a couple, but oof$$$). Have not tried the Cairdeas yet but that may be NYE pour. Back in California, Russell’s Reserve can do no wrong. Peated whiskies had such a great year but my biggest surprise was Meikle Toir - The Turbo! Billy Walker is coming for the Peatheads. Cheers & Happy Holidays!
Good review and nice choice. Look forward to more in the New Year.
This is a really nice whisky and at a fantastic price but when I try it head to head with other 18 year olds it does feel simple. So I learned to have this and the Glen Moray 18 in isolated moments :) Cheers Brian, happy holidays!
I had a bad batch of Bunnahaban 12, about 5 years ago, maybe I should revisit.
Another great video. Love the unique format.
Haven't tried this one yet! Guess I'll have to find a sample somewhere.....😂😂
Such an underrated channel reviewing such an underrated whisky.
Excellent, informative video, cheers. Now subscribed.
Yes a wonderfully thoughtful video. Enjoyed it a lot and have subscribed.
Agreed. Me too!
The Ledaig 18 is an excellent bottle at a very affordable price. I recently picked up a bottle for under 100 pounds, it makes me happy that there are still a few reasonably priced options out there. Interestingly I also own a cask strength IB of 19 yo which is very similar but just more intense and the mouth feel is much better. However it was also more than 2x the price...
Agree with the others....awesome video format. Cheers!
Please keep up these reviews in the new year. I’ve really been enjoying them. Thank you
Nice format man, a good recap of the year, of your notes and a great pick! I have not tried this one yet but all I hear are good things. Sounds like I need to pick a bottle soon. Cheers!
Love this recap! My additions would be Kilchoman 16 - Laphroaig Elements 2 (honorable mentions: Lagavulin Ink of Legends, Torabhaig Allt Gleann and Highland Park Batch 5)
I really like how you evaluated the contenders in each class. Thoughtful commentary on all. Great format! I really look forward to all your content! Love supporting a fellow “sconnie boy”!🍻
Nice range and nice personal recap. Enjoyed over a night cap and SB 🥃
I would have wanted to buy Port Charlotte 18yo but I asked from Bruichladdich will they sell it somewhere in EU they said no. Only at their webstore I dont want to pay import taxes for one bottle. After long time looking at different 18yo bottles I decided to buy Longrow 18yo 2024 as my very first 18yo bottling. It was 221€ after shipping I think it was good price for it. Already seeing it for sale much higher.
Nice recap. I'm not sure why the Lore is so expensive here in the States (about $120 near me in Maryland), but I took advantage of the Royal Mile Whiskies free US shipping last month and included it in my order. With the exchange rate it was ~$77 delivered (700ml). I also picked up the Bunna 12 CS ($90) to see what the fuss is about. Fingers crossed that RMW does the free shipping promo again next year.
Absolutely love the format of the video. Breaking down your thought process and giving us other options to consider if we are looking for our next bottle. Great choice, phenomenal release. Happy holidays everyone!!
Great year recap and great choice for WoTY! Cheers 🥃
Great choice. I love it Happy holidays and great 2025
Great video very well done! Happy holidays!!
Great video. Nice to see you go through many of them like this. Love the Bunna 12 myself. Looking into what to get from Laphroaig next, and that Cairdeas is one of the contestants, and even moreso now. The only thing is I am more interested in whiskys that I know that I can get a hold of again, and that one is unfortunately a limited edition
I just had a sample recently. Very nice mild PX driven Laphy.
the 18 year is great, a 12 of almost any brand of scotch is no bueno for a seasoned enthusiast.
What? I doubt there are many “seasoned enthusiasts” who would agree with that. Some whiskies have their sweet spot near that age.
Sounds delicious! I've gotten on the Craigellachie bandwagon this last year myself, picking up an OB 23 and 17. Had an 'Old Particular' bottling that was a cracker so that got me in. Slainte! Wish we got more TB bottlings over here but I'll take that I can get.
Happy birthday! I have the same batch, same purchase story different bottle code and no balls to open my first $200 bottle. More than happy to enjoy it vicariously while drinking $100 bottles of Indie Craigs
this one always does well in a blind sherry shootout.
Congrats on 1 year! Definitely see a huge quality progression over that period, both in production and camera presence. Please continue this longer format. As to the whisky: for 500 USD (300 EUR here) there is tons of whisky I'd buy over it, and in multiple instead of just one bottle. Old(er) whisky prices have reached lunatic levels. If I want an old spirit I go for cognac or armangac. Plus: you don't have to like it, even if others do. It's your palate!
Congrats!! No nonsense reviews. Your delivery sounds professional
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!
Congratulations. Please keep going for a long time. I appreciate your style.
Thank you so much!
Great chanel!! Just had a taster of this and loved it. more and more liking the peated expresions. I find this very approachable
found this gem channel love the content you made
Thanks! Cheers!
Chers and congratulations 🙌
You deserve a lot more subscribers!
Congratulations! Very recently found a batch from a couple years ago, and have been savoring it!
Absolutely love this channel. You seem polished for a year in. Please keep it going.
Thank you! I'm enjoying the ride!
Great review. I went through the same process myself. Bought this bottle a couple of years ago. Today I love it. Went through the same sensations you describe and I am doing my best on conserving this bottle, drinking small portions hoping it will last forever.
It is definitely a special dram.
Congratulations! Many years to come.
Congrats on the one year! Keep your format just as is, it is good and engaging. The 23 Batch you reviewed actually has a couple of bottling years all right next to each other. We are all debating whether the juice gets older or not. The WM episode you mentioned is probably the best reference, look at the comments. Phil and Deepa love Craigellachie 23, amazing their drink through episode. During one of my first times after having a dram of it, I actually dreamed about it over night. It is, for lack of a better descriptor, almost a magical experience. It is not for everyone, that’s what keeps it a hidden gem. I’m as lucky as you were on price, but I did clean the shelves whenever I found it - albeit typically they were one offs. I was fortunate to be able to do so at the time. I’m not sure as to the more recent releases, have not tried them. Would I spend $500 on this bottle? I don’t know… but if I could afford it, I would… Specially if it is this old batch.
Thanks for shedding some light on the bottling dates! I don't know if I have ever dreamed about a whisky...maybe Brora :)
I feel that all of those RUclipsrs who LOVE this 18yr old (pick me, pick me) should stop talking about. Don’t tempt others to try it. Let it be our little secret. It would give us a better chance at acquiring a bottle so that we could carve out a quiet moment in our lives and experience scotch heaven. I have only ever had the chance to enjoy a dram at the distillery and my first sip almost made me weep. Keep up the great reviews…..love your gentle approach to tasting.
