I instantly recognized Mayer and Beck. I also recognized Wylde, but only because of his unmistakable tone. If it were longer I'm sure I would also recognize Vai, SRV and Gilbert, since they're among my favorite guitarists. Sadly I couldn't say the same about Slash, Wood, Hill, or Mcready. The last one seems a bit embarrassing since I used to be in a Pearl Jam cover band back in college and learned many of his solos and his style.

1st was Slash, #2 was zakk Wylde, 3 Mike McCready, 4 Ron Wood, 5 Steve Vai, 6 John Mayer, 7 skid row, 8 STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN, 9 Jeff Beck, 10 PAUL GILBERT

The problem with KISS was that 2 of the members were ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC. The other 2 were all about THE MONEY and obviously still are. I haven't bought or listened to anything passed the Destroyer album. Which they followed with a disco album and I was done. The 2 of them showed us who they truly were

The Phat Kats are more articulate, higher-fidelity and, dare I say, a touch nastier than either the buckers or the MM P90s.

Nice podcast. I love Ace and KISS! And his solo album didn't just seem to hold up better than the rest of theirs, it simply did. KISS was my very first favorite band when I discovered them at 11 years old in 1976. Aerosmith took over as my favorites a few months later, BUT I always secretly knew Ace was a better soloist than Joe Perry and that KISS was way better live.

Sure is. Wolfgang is completely capable of stepping in and taking over the crown. But he'll need to surpass Nuno Bettencort and maybe Jerry Cantrell to gain it in my opinion.

Back in the 70s into early 80s I was good at knowing, but there are so many more out there no that it's impossible for me.... There would be probably between 15 and 20 I would undoubtadly know back then, but a lot of today's guitarists have mirrored many of them and some of it mushes together.

Damn! I got them all wrong except for Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, and John Meyer. I can't believe I missed Stevie Ray as I'm such a huge fan but the sound wasn't really good one that one. That was fun!

I think Nuno Betancourt from Extreme is up there in my opinion.

Vinnie never filled in for Ace. Definitely overplayed live, but CotN and LiU are fantastic. And Ace played and wrote nothing on Creatures.

I got MIke McCready, Zakk Wild, Jeff Beck and Steve Vai. Beck and Vai were the easiest, very distinctive players. I would have gotten SRV, and Paul Gilbert if I had stuck to my initial list. Mayer had such a good SRV like attack on the notes that though me off. I should have known SRV would be at "Full Wail" with Mayer being more laid back. Once i got thrown off, its was a quick ride to Confusionville. Fun video!

I feel good about this. Never studied or listened much to mccready, ron wood, but I almost put him for 9, or the skid row guy, don't know him at all by sound The vibrato will tell you man. Although Gilbert was a guess based on "shredder tone and jazz licks" combo, watched the recent beato interview and his sound was fresh in my mind. But I never studied him at all either. Zakk, beck, vai, srv were the only ones I would have put money on. Would not have got anyone else without a list of names..... maybe Mayer too

I got Zakk Wylde, Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert and I was lucky with Ron Wood (more by method of exclusion than actually knowing his tone). I'm embarassed though that I didn't properly recognize Slash and SRV😢

Slash was true to him self. Many of us cannot do it, and just seeking approval. Slash is sigma male example 😅😅

The original lineup was my favorite. It's all very subjective, but differing opinions make the world go round. 😮

BIG Ace fan here. You can't deny what a legend Ace is when he's achieved such a god-like status despite the fact that he can't really play. He's one of the very worst guitarists to ever make it, and indeed, without his fateful encounter with the kiss band members, nobody would have ever heard of Ace Frehley, except maybe the guy who writes the schedule at McDonald's in New York. And don't tell me he's just sloppy. No. There's a difference between sloppy and terrible. He doesn't practice his instrument, nor, evidently does he rehearse for his gigs. And it's painfully apparent when you hear him play. Half the time he can't remember how to play the songs, and when he can, he still lacks the physical capability to nail the parts. Ace is THE most overrated guitarist in the history of entertainment and people do their own credibility a grave disservice by trying to defend his horrific guitar mangling.

Wolfgand is the most talented man in rock and roll. Some day I will jam with him.
