Great results, and no Flannel ! Thanks. I guess the Tea played a major Factor.
@tcm4891 tea is the one thing that's needed for any DIY task lol
What would it look like if you did the cut and polish without the sanding? Would the non-smooth surface be shiny?
@joefoster259 you can still polish it up to a good shine but you need the sanding process to get the best result . Smooth is shiny as texture reflects light differently
Sounds good. I’m doing a topper on an old suburban in fiberglass and thought I’d be ok with the texture left by spraying it with a 2.5 mm gun but I’d like to have the shine of a cut and polish. I appreciate your posting. Awesome finish on that fishing boat. Gotta be proud of your results!
@joefoster259 cheers mate 👍 yeah the boat finished up awesome
Great help! Thanks
Where in Norway were you guys fishing?
@@nicholasdicosmo8716 near bodo
did you dilute it a little bit on styrene monomer ? this roller seems to be working way better than mine...
what about blowing warm air on the surface instead of rubbing with the dry cloth ?
Hey Ricky. Your "How to's" are brilliant. No nonsense straightforward. Making a really daunting task simple. I got my first 14 foot boat 5 months ago. I knew it was going to need a little work. However turned into a can worms! I'm OK with glassing. It's the rest I'm unsure about. Couldn't of been better timing as I'm now moving onto gelcoat and then paint it in the winter. Thanks you for the videos. I look forward to seeing more of restoration and up keep of boats.💪🤙😎
Much quicker and uniform, using a spray gun.
what birds are in the background?
Great video Where do you buy all the stuff needed please
Won't to glass bottom hull 18 foot icelandic wot glass do you recommend
If this doesn’t chase away the blues nothing ever will!😂😂😂
what gelcoat are you using? The blue gelcoat can? Manufacturer? Is it gelcoat or topcoat?
great place to go...but no halibut for us . great video lads well done
It took plenty of time Sat there thinking do we move lol . Had a day of nothing at all then it just came on . Figured we been chucking bait out all day so just as well stick with it . Luckily that time it paid off . Will be back out there in a few months
Whats the normal process for under the water line? I have a boat with hundreds of tiny osmosis blisters, each one about the size of a pinkie fingernail. My plan is too lift, gelcoat plane a couple of layers ofbthe fiberglass. Soda blast to expose any deeper blisters ect. Then leave on the hard for a few months. Fix blisters, a couple of layers of fiber glass. Fill and sand anything uneven. Then i would like to know what else needs to be added to the hull before coppercoat or antifoul? Any tips are really appreciated
Sounds like you have a good plan there. When you have done the topcoat just follow the instructions on what antifouling you choose
You should tell the people the difference between gelcoat and flowcoat... if you use gel coat without a mould it will not set... flow coat is for redoing an exiting surface.. Gel coat is for a new build. This needs FLOW COAT not gel coat.
Looking at all the American videos they appear to be applying several layers gel coat without wax and then finishing off with a top layer of gel coat with wax.
So you only put one coat on?? What if you put two or three do you just wait five minutes between coats?
I did 2 coats on this . I left the first coat to fully harden so I could sand it flat . Second coat lays down better . Follow the guidelines on the material you use for drying times
Can you apply gel coat directly over fibreglass?
Yeah mate just make sure it's got a good key Check out my other vids
Am I in the right place? I'm looking for some tasty gourmet food inspiration - my mother-in-law is coming to visit 🤣
that is pretty impressive from dry 600 to buffing/polish, but becarefull dont go to fast and get to hot. and keep your sand paper clean. i like to do this with a bit of spray water and then more water and do 1000 sanding. but this guy know what he is doing and doing it fast.
What did you use as bait
Mainly herring
Thank you. Ill try the spot tomorrow 🙂
Let me know how you get on
@@westcoastprojects01 sure. Its my first time in norway
We're back out in September. Cabt wait
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
How many coats did you apply before polishing?
I applied 2 on this one
Thanks for the video, maybe we have different terminology in Australia, but my understanding is gelcoat is unwaxed, flow coat is waxed. Aren't you cut and polishing flowcoat ? or have I got it wrong ? thanks, John.
No you are correct there buddy .
That looks terrible
Your just a bundle of joy ain’t ya
is it non wax gelcoat or waxed? im getting ready to do my transom and i have to cut a part of my top cap off and then try and match the white gelcoat to the old stuff. so not the whole boat.
It had the wax addive mixed in with it
هلو الذي نحتاجه هو كيف نصنع الجليكوت وماهي نسب المواد المخلوطه وشكرا
Great vid
THANKS!
I am absolutely crying watching this 😂😂😂
Hello mate how many coats of gel coat did you apply to the boat, did you use a particular company for your gel coat supplies
Hi mate . I applied 2 heavy coats . If you purchase gelcoat get the wax addictive or just buy topcoat . Any brand will be ok
Can’t wait for part 5
Great video you brought that thing back to life great pointers and tips as well😊
Thanks mate
fish n chips
Todays champions 🤣🤣 His Mums mums mum was cleaning gel coat out of his dads overalls and yet.. Listen to the background noise, he doesn’t keep homing pidgins, he keeps seagulls and yet… And yet you all still think you know better. 🙄 Question, why don’t more people spray though, is it just regulations on the hard? I need to do a 44ft full keel and buggered if I’m rollering it for 6 coats. And then anti foul??
Why not using a spray gun to paint the gelcoat ?
Cos the video was intended to show how it can be done without all the equipment in a shop
Very good information What primer did you use? Also I want that gel coat where can I get it from
can you go there on holiday and bring the fish back home to england
Yeah mate 👌 that's what we did
This video helped me more than any of the other ones that had the dude adding a ton of different additives and stuff. I like the simple method, maybe a little more sanding involved but it’s simpler that way.
Where did you got the GelCoat from? What kind of collor is it?
I've sanded out some scratches, it all looks smooth in some light, but in others it still looks matte rather than shiny. Worked on it forever, sponge and buffer. How do I know if I'm using the correct polish?
You want a cutting compound not a polish
Ah, that classic Surströmming spray when you open the can… so you know it’s good.
Hey brother if you keep your roller metal peice on the side you’re pushing/rolling when you paint Ive found it to come out much better and Easier
Nice simple tutorials, thanks mate.
Excellent, thanks mate.
THE GELCOAT MUST BE WITH A5 % OF PARAFINE, OR IT WILL STAY STICKING, CHECK IT WHEN BUYING,,, GELCOAT OR TOP COAT,,
If it as no wax just wipe it whit acetone and then you sand it down and polish if it as wax you still need to wipe it whit acetone sand and polish
Nice work
Excellent tutorial
The big guy in the Volkswagen shirt is basically me if I were doing this challenge
What’s the difference between gel coating a boat and painting a boat ? I plan on doing my boat in a new colour but I’m confused
Gel coat is thick and hard. Paint is paper thin and doesn't last or look good for an external finish
Gelcoat is a lot more labour. Paint is definitely a better finish and easier to maintain. Easier to repair.
Automotive Paints can look good on boats but are much less durable. They will scratch much easier, and chemicals like gasoline may lift/ruin your finish.
