If Jerome had the spine to check Louie properly, she would have never had the chance to betray Franklin. Louie told Jerome to leave Franklin's business, and he did. Louie set up a deal with Teddy behind Franklin's back, and Jerome just went with it. Louie sent killers to get Franklin, and Jerome had no complaints. Jerome wanted to leave the game, and after a weak little speech from Louie, he immediately hopped back in. Unc was quick to check Franklin and turn against him, but was too weak in the legs to go against his hooker wife for his own nephew. Then in the end, suddenly he grew a conscious and started crying like a victim.

I believe pride is what truly destroyed them all and what ultimately let to all the betrayal. Many people point to Louie and Jerome (mostly Louie) going behind Franklin's back to Teddy but as fucked up as it was from Franklin's perspective, I can understand why Louie would want to get out from underneath Franklin from the events of season 4. Louie getting shot, Leon killing Tianna, and the beginnings of Jerome's descent into madness from his first killing in during the Scully ambush, all of these events stemmed from Franklin's decision to side with Manboy instead of Scully in the Compton vs Inglewood war. Louie was the only who said they should've sided with Scully and seeing the aftermath it makes sense that she would want to break away afterwards upon realizing she was right from the start especially when they made peace with Scully. Unfortunately this is where her own pride truly began to show and where her arrogance in believing she was smarter than everyone became her crutch. Franklin walking away was his single most impactful moment of him swallowing his pride but of course Teddy's own pride fucked that up because Teddy had to be in control of everything and never would have let Franklin walk away until he said so, despite the fact that his business could have gone on just fine with Louie. There's not a doubt in my mind that even if Teddy went through with the 37 million split he would have done to Franklin exactly what he did to Alton. Then at the end of it all Franklin's pride ruined him beyond repair. Even after Cissy killed Teddy he just kept chasing after that money and burning that last bridges he had left between his family and friends. He could have just sold the downtown property to Davis, taken whatever money he and V had left and invested it into other manageable properties to slowly build back their wealth or done what V did in the end and left the country to start a new life with his wife and soon-to-be son. However, he just couldn't get over the fact that she offered the downtown property without his approval and after that he was truly alone. Pride got Teddy killed and pride made Franklin and Louie lose everything. That's why the only ones to have a happy ending were Leon who let that pride go and Gustavo who was one of the few characters whose actions were solely motivated by their loved ones more than themselves. Plus Scully had a happy ending who I think had the best character development despite losing damn near everyone he cared about but was still was able to let it all go and become a better person for it.
