I had lived in Bellingham for over 40 years, originally grew up in Seattle. It is a wonderful city and I loved the community feeling. But the unaffordable housing I sold my home and have moved to Thailand. I’m free of All the costs of owning a home and can live here where a nice hotels at $25 and a dinner out for 2 is around $10! No property taxes, internet fiber runs $30 a month! Life is Short, Don’t Blow It!

Within view of this place they have 700k condos/apartments (by the ball). Coffee shop at Grainary closed, Bounday Bay closing, K pop closing, Backcountry Essentials moving out of main downtown, Boardworks will be closing. Need more pressure on the city to do something about the crime and drugs.

Good! Glad people leave because state is blue. I have lived here all of my life. If people leave will home prices and rents get cheaper like they should? No because investment firms are buying properties and prices will remain high. Bellingham is lovely and a college town. Try living in Springfield MO or Alice TX.

The pros: Lots of outdoor activities and awesome selection of places to go to keep healthy and fit! You can snowboard/ski, bike, rock climb, canoe, kayak in the same day! The cons: If you are a single man over 40 years of age, it will be very lonely as it seems nearly impossible to make friends as a single older man. This can easily lead to poor mental health.

Things change. I lived in Bellingham in 1971 to 1972 when the population is Bellingham was 34 k. I rented a house for $125/mo.I also could buy 4 cans of tuna for a dollar and a six pack of beer for a dollar. I visited Bellingham forty years later. Our house was a dump and the population was almost tripled. My wife worked at à daycare for $1.70/ hour.

You should been there in mid 70s. It was magical. I suppose mainly cause I was young. How I miss those days. Really miss the original Tony’s coffee shop.

Not trying to be a Debbie downer. Please make sure whoever is flying your drone shots is part 107 certified. Drone size does not matter with Part 107. If your drone shots make you any money you need a Part 107 no matter how big or small your drone is. (The fact that there was a shot of flying over moving cars makes me think that probably not since that is illegal without a waiver from the FAA) Also, the dji app won't tell you this but most of the boardwalk is class D airspace requiring a waiver to fly. Please do not ruin it for the pilots that work hard to follow the rules.

Wrong on the politics. I come from Iowa/Nebraska. Drugs are huge in the Midwest. Look at WV & OH. You see what you want to see. You're in a blue state so you blame it on the blue. Many of these folks are from red counties. Texas has a huge drug problem too. I really think this perspective is biased despite putting it out there as unbiased & posed as a question. Lived in bellingham since 1968 , drugs and crime homelessness, have ruined whatcom county , also city and county leaders are ruining the place , department of ecology is suing every one who has a water well in the county , also we use to tub the south fork of the nooksak river , well the natives have decided that people floating on tubs kill the fish , but only white people because if your native then you can float /tube the south fork all you want , also the north fork is to cold and swift. Its to dangerous for kids and young teenagers , south fork is a good safe place to bring your family on a nice sunny day , also what are the young kids suppose to do , took away there fun tubing the south fork , so i guess thay can go do drugs for fun , taking away all the stuff thats free and fun , unless your native you can't float the south fork ,

Why didn't you mention the major employers in the education system? Western Washington University and Bellingham Public Schools combined may employ more people than the hospitals. Also, we are seeing some improvement in the homelessness situation. Look at Railroad Avenue in 2024 and compare that with the five previous years. It is better. People are moving TO Bellingham for some of the political reasons that you said that they are moving away! So while you do have some valid points, your perspective is a bit clouded by your political leanings. Of course, everybody's perspective is influenced by such things. The military introduced me to Washington State, Whidbey Island Navy airbase back in 1986. I fell in love with the areas geographic beauty. Being in the Navy you do move around. I left Washington but wanted to come back and I did. I definitely seen the change, especially after leaving military service and moving to Whatcom County. Bellingham is a great place but the political landscape has changed. Something I didn't notice while in military. The sterile and insulated military life I imagine. There is definitely a difference living and interacting with military community of Oak Harbor than Bellingham. However, places like Ferndale, Lynden, Everson and Birch Bay were comparable, especially interacting with the people. That's when you meet the locals that were born and raised in the area. Definitely not a bunch of raging liberals. In fact, many of them consider themselves conservative and very nice people. However, I have meet and interacted with self proclaimed liberals and find many of them rude and a bunch of passive aggressive idiots. Quite a few are passively aggressive racist as well. Based on what came out of their mouths not perception. I'm a black male that prefers to live in the County versus Bellingham. The cost of living is why I'm planning my departure back to my home state, Ohio.

Born and raised in Pacific Northwest. Liberals have been moving here for years and bringing their politics with them. Once it becomes too lib, then they move on to ruin the next place like idaho, etc.
