Some of the stuff in this modpack seems cool, but its dragged down by everything else being either needlessly complex or overly difficult. Mobs use tactics and try not to hit each other? Lets spawn a whole battalion of them and amp up the damage they do. Fuck it lets just add a ton of unbalanced mobs that two-shot you and move faster than you. New world structures with loot that rewards you for exploring? If the light level is any lower than "bright summer day" you lose sanity and have half your screen covered in bullshit. Don't forget the obligatory shader that turns the world into a fogged-up gray and brown blob and changes what everything vanilla looks like so you can't even identify what you're looking at. Cool new magic system you're supposed to use? You never /get/ to use it because of all of the above reasons.

dayum, i was falling asleep and the only thing keeping me awake was the cheap loud jump scare noises.. these yee yee EXE / creppy-pasta looking ass horror mods are goofy..

One of the scariest mods I've encountered was weirdly the epic siege mod. It allowed zombies that spawned with pickaxes to dig to your location, and were given xray vision. Scary as hell.

Seeing how bad and basic they are, I'd be willing to wager that most of these "horror" mods are straight up commissioned by youtubers, for their 12 year old audience videos. It's good enough for a 12 minute video where the scary mob makes an appearance for 30 seconds lol

note to all mod creators jumpscares just momentarily catch someone off guard not scare i repeat scaring someone is building up ambiance and pressure then actually turning it into true dread or an actual well articulated jumpscare, for example think about playing mincraft as a kid and digging a hole in a mountain to stay in because you were too scared to be out at night, thats true fear

the problem is that its literally nothing and then randomly you just hear something loud as shit and die no build up, no ambience, no danger of something lurking outside of vision range just sudden jumpscare for example subnautica being an awesome survival, still manages to be much scarier than these type of minecraft mods

gotta admit, that world gen at 32:11 with the mineshaft intersecting with a geode looks phenomenal

You know? There is this old mod that adds some magical forest creatures and all of that, I forgot it's name, but one lf them, still gave me the creeps every time i saw it. It was the Hidebehind, I had to lower it's spawn rate and even then, I felt intimidated when I saw more than one of them stalking me. No creepy sound needed, no screamer, just silently making his way towards my and my bases, and staring at me. Hardly any mob has made me sk cautions of going into forests. These "scary" mobs are just screamer after screamer. It gets boring.

One mod that was really good is called "from the fog", it adds in a Herobrine that will rarely just spawn behind you and stare at you then disappear. He doesn't attack or do anything weird, except one time where he surprised me by walking about two steps before disappearing. Surprisingly effective for a mod that is entirely visual

The warden is scarier then any of these mods

Herobrine is at his scariest when you never see him just hints that your not alone, which is why your so right about form the fog not being scary.

I do think that each of the dwellers are good in their own ways, only thing is that their sort of overrated at this point. Especially when they do attack you 90% of the time instead of actually stalking you and build the suspense/tension. It isn't really scary anymore, even with some of them do having audio way too loud over everything else. There has to be tension and suspense for things to be scary, instead of being chased by something all the time. Now in saying that some of the dwellers are good in their own ways, but they shouldn't be called a dweller and have their own name instead that would be better fitting for them. Minecraft horror is boring these days, and mod developers can't seem to be more original when making monster or creature mods to make things scary, and just have to copy the exact same mechanics as the original cave dweller or very similar to it, as that was the first mod to kick start all of this.

Horror mods needs to take notes from Minecraft horror ARGs, some of them are genuinely scary. Get rid of jumpscares, it'll only scare people for a couple of seconds. Caves and it's sounds are also a great example of horror atmosphere, it makes you feel like something is watching you or near you, even though there is nothing.

Minecraft simply can't be truly scary. The sandbox gameplay just doesn't lend to it. Danger? Just build a wall. Just dig a hole. Just use a totem of undying from your raid farm. You're never vulnerable, there are never stakes. The only scary moment is when you're playing on hardcore and building above the void in the end.

Modded Minecract mobs that have scare potential: 1. Dragons (Ice & Fire) 2. The Hidebehind (Wisperwoods) 3. Nightmare Stalker (Born in Chaos) The Nightmare Stalker is pretty cool, actaully. The Hidebehind made me panic a few times. Dragons are absolutely terrifying, you know why if you've played the mod.
