I have always loved Gerber products and have been a longtime fan of their knives. This is the first machete I've had from this comopany. The Gerber Gator Jr in the video is the 10" model and cost around $20-25.00 and appears to be a quiality Gerber product as usual. Well after one use in the field, hacking dead tree limbs no bigger than a finger width ( and I have small hands ) for the fire. I ...

      @benlavigueur4275 Месяц назад

      Depends on what you consider high winds and storms. It's not a mountaineering tent by any means, but I believe it would hold up alright. It's small, so don't expect a whole lot of serious protection, plus the material is thin and lightweight.

  • @rbljackson
    @rbljackson 2 месяца назад

    for that interior floor protector, you could use a cut piece of tyvek I think and save some weight while still protection the floor. I think its lighter than that 31 ounces.

    • @benlavigueur4275
      @benlavigueur4275 2 месяца назад

      I've used the floor protector for many other things too. I take it winter camping and ice brought out our onto the frozen lake at night, played it down so my wife and I can lay out and watch the northern lights at night. It's very versatile.

    I don't know about 3 years ago, but BA does not (currently) tell you to set the guylines as you showed. Also, 8 stakes is exactly enough to secure all the corners properly when you attach the top layer corners to the footprint corner stakes. Although I do agree that extra stakes would be beneficial in high wind conditions, to get the attachment point further away.

Found one of these on Amazon used for only $100, so I had to pick one up. I think this will be great to take on trips where I know camping spots might be a bit tighter. Thank you for the tips. Just bought the 2 person tent, which I will use as a spacious solo-tent. Immediately set it up in the backyard. I like the features and the low weight, but I was surprised at how thin the materials are, especially the floor. This is my first lightweight tent, so I’m used to heavier and thicker materials. The durability over time is a concern. Time will tell. I’m definitely adding something to protect the floor from the ground.

    • @benlavigueur4275
      @benlavigueur4275 Год назад

      I hear your concern, and it's a valid one. In order to make the product weigh less, the material needs to be thinner. In truth, I think you'll be surprised at how durable it actually is. The key to preserving the floor is making sure you clear your ground space really well. Remove any sticks or sharp rocks that you can. Pick a site that has soft ground when at all possible. I've gone without using a floor protector many times and just used the optional footprint. I would recommend that, at a minimum, to help with your concerns. Happy camping !

      Technically you could. But it would be difficult. You would have to end up unhooking the tips of the poles from the footprint at each 3 spots and connect them back to the tent body and again to the footprint so everything is secure. It could be done but with some difficulty. You're better off setting up before it really starts pouring .

    5:05. Yeah dude... just turn your tent. The door should face the brunt of the wind in BA tents. Their tents are strongest in that direction

      Actually, I just emailed BA last week and they replied this: "We typically recommend trying to put the head or foot of the tent towards the wind if you can."

    I had the 18 incher and it snapped in half cutting a tiny branch , it's crap . Buy an Imacasa it's dirt cheap and will not bend .

      Dang! Yep, I've lost all hope in Gerber products.

      @@pathwaysalaska8757 here is the funny thing when it broke my friend took the handle off and cut it down to the smaller size , He thought it was just a bad heat treat and decided to buy one for himself but his bent badly instead of breaking like mine did , back in the day Gerber was good they were out of Oregon and would sharpen your knife free , I still have the American made Gerber Steadfast and have had it probably 30 years . For Budget knifes I'm liking Schrade and Kershaw . But for a good machette buy South American versions , Imacasa or Tramontina super cheap , you do have to file the blade sharp and take off all the varnish to get it at optimal performance. I Subbed by the way and thanks for replying.

      I still have my old Machete that I picked up while I was in Belize and it followed me all through Central America. Holds an edge forever and tough as hell. I do like Kershaw for a budget blade Thanks for the Sub!
