Starting a Panther M100 600cc Classic Motorcycle
Today I took my 1951 M100 Panther 600cc out of the shed and started it in real time with no editing after being laid up for about 3 months. It went well apart from a bit of clutch slippage which did not give me an efficient kick to turn the motor over properly. However it started quite well. I have owned the bike since I was 19. So 50 years!

Veteran 1909 P&M (Phelon & Moore) Motorcycle On the Road Testing

After Fitting new Cam and Half Time Pinion I noticed the rear wheel bearings were loose which turned into the usual drawn out fix. I could not get them adjusted properly so I took it all apart to see why. With all the space taken up with 1/4" balls they did not rotate when you turned the axle. just skidded around. So I removed one ball each side and the balls seemed to rotate more freely and al...

    Hmm. Think somebody has been swapping around your levers/controls, i.e.: where they are & what they do. 🤔 Yes I am aware you could have 'your' motorcycle configured the way you stipulated, but.... Here in Blighty, within spitting distance of Sunbeamland, I have an original (except the same replacement AMAL you have - a common thing I'm told by the Marston people) April 1927 model 5 Longstroke. Mine came originally from Lord Dashwood MP of West Wycombe via a good friend, the second owner.

      @lancelottavola9685 I think you mean the Best & Lloyd oil pump. It is semi automatic. You depress the button on the top against a string, and it picks up oil from the tank and delivers it to the engine. It is controlled by a small wheel, and I set it to deliver 20 drops per minute which you can see through the little glass windows.

    • @davidradloff4776
      @davidradloff4776 6 месяцев назад

      Basically, the steering is the same, just heavier duty to cope with the increased weight. Also there is a spring arrangement at the top of the forks that was Triumph's idea to deal with the rough roads. In fact it just elongates the wheelbase and makes it like riding a greyhound dog!! 😮😊

    • @davidradloff4776

      That is the gear lever. The bike has 2 primary chains and the lever operates clutches to engage either one or the other clutches. Unfortunately it slips a bit so I have to hold it in gear. Normally I use an inner tube rubber band around the gear lever and ignition advance lever behind it yo hold it in gear.

      The 1909 P&M was owned by the South Australian Agents and in 1934 took part in the a Rally. It was then sold in 1962 to an enthusiast that tidied it up but could not get it running. I purchased the bike in about 1999 and got it running but the timing gears were very worn and I was afraid the teeth might break off the gear so i made new gears.
