Thermacut SD55 Plasma Cutter Upgrade | Part 2 - The Install
Today's video is the 2nd of a 3 part series on upgrading my existing plasma cutter, to the new Thermacut SD55 unit.
In part 1, you saw me unboxing the plasma cutter and showing you all the parts that came with it.
In part 2, I'll be installing the new machine torch, fabricating trays for the drag chain that secures the machine torch cable and connecting the CNC cable between the unit and the plasma cutting software....the MyPlasm CNC controller and plasma interface unit.
Please make sure you look out for part 3 where I'll be making some test cuts to dial in the new plasma cutter.

From a Photo to a Sculpture | How I Created a CNC Plasma Cutting File from a Photo
Просмотров 65510 месяцев назад
In today's video I'll show you how I took a photo and created a CNC plasma cutting file, to create a garden sculpture. Using Inkscape, a free 2 dimensional Computer Aided Design (CAD) program, I imported the photo, traced around the subject using the Bezier tool, then saved it as a .dxf file that my CNC plasma cutting software, MyPlasm, will recognise. I cut the design out of 3mm mild steel pla...
How To Build A Sheet Metal Bender

In this video I'll be building a sheet metal bender. This bender is designed to bolt to my welding bench, using 5 each 3/4" Whitworth studs. The bender measures 1600mm wide and the clamping bar is 1360mm wide. The base is made from 75x40mm C channel, welded to a piece of 75x10mm flat bar. The clamping bar is constructed from 50x50x5mm angle iron, as is the bending bar. The bending bar is also c...
How to Make an Electromagnetic Clamp

In today's video I'll be making an electromagnetic clamp, to hold the metal pieces I cut on the plasma table, making it easier and quicker to clean them. In the past, I've have to clamp each piece to the welding bench, clean it, then move the clamp to clean the area under the clamp's head. Then unclamp it, turn the piece over, clamp it, and repeat the process. With this electromagnetic clamp, m...
CNC Plasma Cut 5 Layer Outback Scene

In today's video, follow along as I design, cut, paint and assemble this 5 layered rural outback scene. The design measures 500mm x 300mm and is cut from 1.6mm mild steel plate, on my home built CNC plasma cutting table. I got the idea for this design, after building several 2 layer signs, so this one is an extension of those previous designs. My plasma table runs on the MyPlasm CNC controller ...

      @RustysOutbackAdventures Месяц назад

The table is now 2 1/2 years old and while not used every day, has seen quite a few sheets of metal pass over it. As for things I'd change, maybe the ballscrews from 1605 to 2010, just to make it run a bit faster when cutting thin material, but turning the amps down on the plasma cutter and tweaking the cut speed have given me good results, though. If I built a full size table, I'd go with rack & pinion drive system.

The water bath is there to trap the fumes, sparks and smoke that are produced from the plasma cutting process. Breathing in these fumes isn't good for your health. The water also aids in cooling the metal, especially when cutting thin gauge.

If I remove the top clamping plate, then the lower swing arm will travel up and over past 90 degrees. In fact, I notched the end plates on the top clamping plate to allow the bender to go past 90, to allow for a small amount of spring back from the material being bent...if that makes sense.

Nice bender mate. Perfect for the light material that you need to bend.

Well done Rusty, the design works very good and I am impressed that you made an adjustment on the clamping bar to allow for thicker sheet metal. The radius of the bends are smooth and tight, nothing more required. A great job Rusty!

Hi Jordan. Go into your configuration settings (the cog icon next to Communication Status message), open the Machine tab and make sure the 'Axis Soft Limits' box is checked. Also make sure you have entered a value into the X, Y & Z box, which describes the maximum distance each of the 3 axes can travel. Also make sure you have installed and set up your homing switches, too. Hope this helps. If you want to email me, it's rmhyde58@gmail.com

@@RustysMetalCutSignsDesigns There is several recipes on P-Spider for plaz-fluid, did you ever try any Laundry Soda? That is what I am using it kills rust and disinfects the water also. I can treat 350 gals with 3 ea. 55 oz box's for less then a $20. Google the following to find the stuff (I'm sure they sale it down-unda too) "ARM & HAMMER Super Washing Soda Household Cleaner and Laundry Booster, Versatile Natural Home Cleaner, Powder Laundry Additive and Cleaner, 55 oz Box)" This is sodium carbonate which has a higher PH than sodium bicarbonate (aka baking soda) swimming pool / spa stores should carry it as well. You want to keep your water's PH above 10 so get some PH test strips as well.. You owe me a TED or two for that advise 😎😎

Thanks Dai, I tried to get the client to go for a larger version, without success. I did cut a bigger stage coach (without the house numbers) to sell at the local markets.

Thanks Dai. I need to look at getting some computer recording software so I can record what I'm doing during the design process. Can you recommend some software???

Hello do you sale the file ?

That's something I hadn't considered, at this stage. I know there are lots of firepit files for sale online, especially at Etsy, if you're looking to purchase a .dxf file to cut your own firepit.
