The Secret to Rewearing Your Clothes Without Getting Bored
I think it's good you're exploring. I didn't think anything fit "you", but if you play around a bit more I think you'll find your middle ground. I'd also say play around with things you already like and push those boundaries. If you already have a base line slowly work from there.
8:39 Love the skirt colour. Really pretty.
Your description of the first outfit killed me. 😂
The purple of that skirt is gorgina! That outfit (without the scarf lol) is my fave. Realistically tho, i'd go for outfits #2 and #5. Personally i like pairing tights with sneakers lol. I always put on regular socks, either inside or out, black or colorful
sometimes unexpected colors surprise you
Interesting outfits I like colour but it's strange to see wearing the purple skirt and striped sweater. The last two look the best on you
They definitely were out of my comfort zone!
Which kind of steamer do you use?
Just a portable handheld one. I linked a similar one in the description!
just what i need after a long day with the kids ❤😊
here for the Algorithmus ❤
Yes, in a way, everything is bad ;) That's why, in my opinion, we should mostly focus on reducing our consumption. Where we buy is secondary if we strive to shop intentionally and only buy things we actually love, need and wear.
Nothing to do with the video, but I think you could really pull off some bangs…just throwing that out there…. Thanks for the research too!
Looking for stuff for my gf but don’t want to pay so much extra for the name brand. I only care about looks and a nice material so thank you
Two former executives from the LVMH luxury group have joined Parisian label Sézane at the start of 2023, taking over two key positions. I think that’s why sezane changed!
That makes complete sense!
Absolutely agree that the fashion industry is not sustainable at all. There are already so many beautiful well-made garments in the world, we really don't need any more.
I am really torn on synthetics. I don’t think they should be as prevalent as they are; however, I’m extremely allergic to several animal fibers (wool from goat and sheep, angora, etc). So, I do think there is a problem. No doubt, and I have bought ethical or second hand over 90% of the time for years. I just don’t know that I foresee a future for cold weather items for me that don’t involve polyester.
It sounds like you're doing a great job, especially when it comes to something so personally challenging! Remember that our best is enough
Hate how it’s just a complete guessing game- you wonder if it’s worth it to actually aim higher and spend more per piece since money spent really does not seem to = quality
Amazing video, you definitely have a new subscriber
Washing your clothes inside out also helps the graphics on t-shirts last longer because it's not rubbing against the other items in the washer/dryer and fading the design/graphic.
Try oxy clean spray (de red cap) is like magic removing oils!!!
But your earrings look nice.
Something I like to do is air my tops out after wearing. If there are no stains or strong odors, leaving it to air out before putting away helps keep everything fresh!
I did this recently with a suede jacket I bought at the thrift store! Helped a ton
Baking soda also works to take oil or grease out of a stain before laundering. I always travel with a small bottle (travel-size) of Dawn dish soap and a small container of baking soda (old pill bottles work great with the child-proof lid to prevent the cap coming off). That way, I can address any spills or stains as soon as I can 😊
That's a great idea!
❤ fast fashion sucks. 68 items a year. No way. The best advise -- stop shopping wear your clothes. Shop your closet. It’s life changing and the best way to help the planet and develop your style. I’ve done a no buy year this year and it got easier as each month passed.
The Laundress has a liquid stain solution that I swear by and it lasts a really long time! (It's great for oil stains 🙌)
Oooh I'll check this out!
Vinegar and citric acid work as softeners and also clean hard water build up as a bonus. 11:08
Dawn is amazing, dawn power wash also works. I know i buy power wash but I buy other dish detergent. So it's another option for grease stains
It's truly the best
New subscriber :) So glad the algorithm recommended you. I don't think thrifting is an environmental problem, no matter how much people buy - the reality is that by purchasing a shirt you are not in any meaningful way resulting in there being less cool shirts for other thrift shoppers. The excess is extreme, and we only see the very tip of the iceberg at a thrift store. A lot of what is donated never even makes it to the floor of the shop for that reason (I work in an op shop). It is estimated that 1/3 of the clothes produced are never sold. There are enough clothes on this planet for generations of people, and me having lots does not mean there are less for you. Clothing scarcity might exist for individual people but on a global scale is a myth. That being said... at one point I had over 200 shirts in my wardrobe (nearly all thrifted). I am no fashionista... they were tempting solely because they were cute and cheap (even if not exactly my stye). It caused overwhelm and resulted in me recirculating the same few items over and over again. It was very hard to put clothes away so I avoided the whole thing. These days I know what my style is and I am happier to pay more to get those items, rather than sticking with the inexpensive ones. Being more selective does nothing really for the planet, but does result in a far calmer and more enjoyable experience for me. I'm still working on it - it is hard for me to walk past a fill a bag for $5 situation when I know the items will be in landfill within a few weeks - but I can't rescue everything and solving overproduction and keeping items others have purchased out of landfill is not my responsibility.
love that content. My only problem is replacing the urge for shopping with something else - I usually find myself trying to start a new habit and then this starts the urge to have to buying things for this new habit. I have my first Pilates class on Friday and of course I already want to buy a new workout set even though I already have many :(
Have fun, I love pilates!! I recommend trying on all the workout sets you already have. Sometimes putting them on reminds us how much we love them and that we don't need more :)
I can relate when you said “I got used to buying thrifted” . This is so true for me now. I’ve been this way for almost 5 years now and can’t go back. I couldn’t find anything quality in regular stores so far. Prices also have never been so unfair for the new stuff we see for sale. Alyssa surely thrifted that sling back 😊 I love her
I agree completely! Thank you for your comment <3
I'm sure I'd find dozens of the coolest, most unmissable pieces on these budget days at the thrift :D
1:41 this is the point where I liked your video ❤
After watching this earlier today, I went to the local thrift store where I frequently buy things I don’t need because they are good quality, my size, nice looking, or due to FOMO. This time I “interviewed” three items as I tried them on and ended up putting them all back on the rack. In each case, I wasn’t sure about the color, the fit, or whether I needed yet another dark colored turtleneck (I have shedding dogs). Thanks for reminding me that I don’t have to buy everything that looks like a good deal. Surely someone else will find it and enjoy it.
I'm so happy to hear this!!
0:56 By the way, how does semi-synthetic even work? I really like viscose for Summer, I’ve always thought it was natural, but then I learned it is semi-synthetic. How can something only be half synthetic and half natural? It’s either or, isn’t it?
Semi-synthetics originate from a natural source (viscose is made from wood pulp) and then are produced/modified through a chemical process. Whereas synthetics are completely man made the entire process. Great question!
i plan my outfit every evening to reduce stress in the morning 😅
I just wear the same thing for a couple of days, that way I don’t have to think about it as often, and it doesn’t hurt the environment, either.
I'm so glad you can do this for yourself especially because I know you're busy with your kids! <3
@@FeelingGoodAsHail ❤️
I used the app Closet to digitalise my wardrobe. The app changed my life, and it calculates the cost/wear automatically. This information is so important to know what you do with the clothes, and then you have to find how to use your clothes in a way or another to low the cost/wear down, and it's great. You wear more often your clothes and you have to find more inspiration not to get bored. I decided to drastically slow down my purchases (even no longer buy during a long period as it's not really necessary) and this application helps me a lot to keep my motivation. With it I record the outfits I'm inspired to create, and I can also plan what I will be wearing on the long run with the calendar. You have so many statistics to help you to know how you stand with your wardrobe.
Taking the time to plan is my go to. I have also stopped keeping it for some special occasion that never comes, wear it now, enjoy it you will feel better.
i love this format, and the abundance mindset that it promotes in a world where the coolest thing around is showing off a bunch of new purchases.
Barrel jeans look so dumb to me personally. Looks like a cartoon cowboy walking away from a horse.
I’ve found that both grocery and clothing bill shopping is stressful. Food like clothes when thinking for the month ahead is likely to result in compatibility for what you actually want on that day. I’ll go more often but with 1-2 items or what I want to eat that day/week at most.
Ok but even after postponing it for several months, i still want it
well then maybe it is for you?
Girl same
Is it something that could possibly serve you then?
I'm saving this to watch again in the future. I was tempted just now to spend $50 on an impulse item and instead while watching this video put that $50 toward the principal on my mortgage! Thanks!
~Such a VERY much needed mindset ESPECIALLY this time of year!
To your point on reaching out to your local community to source affordable hobby options-an added benefit of doing so is that it has the potential to foster connection with other people via third spaces such as libraries. The youtuber Conscious Consumerism posted a video recently about this, and it seemed so obvious yet I hadn't ever thought of it that way before!
That’s so funny, I don’t think Christina has good style. It’s interesting how we can have our perceptions and preferences. Good luck!
I liked this video and the actionable questions to consider. I also would be curious to hear a video that goes a bit more in depth about how to stop the impulse based on the stressor influencing it. For example, you say not shopping can give a person a sense of knowing that they are in fact in control, in a case where a person is influenced by an outside factor (like losing their home for example) they already feel out of control, thus shopping regains a sense of control instead of not shopping.
That’s a really valid take. There’s so many outside stressors to consider. I’ll add it to my list and see what I can come up with, thank you for watching!
I agree that polyester is bad, but when it comes to outerwear, tights, bras, etc., there is literally no "natural material" option. The problem is not the polyester itself, it is the fast fashion and extreme consumerism that led to poor-quality items being made and sold. We, as consumers, can avoid these synthetic materials in the items where they can be avoided and we can hope for more options in the future.
Got sick of my blanket and decided to look at the material. 100 percent polyester. I replaced all my polyester material with linen and cotton, the linen feels great on my skin by miles.
I’m not super far into this video yet, but my stance coming in is that 100% of the time buying less is the most sustainable option. However, that doesn’t automatically make thrifting and buying new equally bad. Thrifting is miles better than buying new. I feel like a lot of people who are really passionate about this topic often promote a mentality of “doing anything other than the best option makes you part of the problem” and that turns a lot of people away because drastically cutting down the amount they consume seems like an impossible task. If everybody who does outrageous shein hauls did outrageous thrift hauls instead, they would still have a shopping problem and they would still be promoting overconsumption, BUT it would still be a lot LESS harmful than buying it all from shein. We can do a lot of good by encouraging people to trade a horrible option for an okay one, rather than only supporting people who take the best possible option.
