Adding a Bowsprit for a furling Gennaker
We design then fabricate and install a new bowsprit on our Bavaria 44. This design concept can be adapted to many boats The new bowsprit is for a top down furling Gennaker. We show and explain the spinnaker furler setup. We also show the modifications made to stop the anchor chain slipping on the windlass gypsy.

Nice to see someone work with pride and attention to detail. Personally I don’t like to attach windows that way but was done correct. Keep up the good work. Congratulations 🍾🎉🎊🎈
great job my friend !!!!
By far the best looking dodger I've seen. I'm thinking about duplicating your process for my boat. Do you feel it's strong enough to take a beating offshore sailing? Would you do it again the same way?
Great work. Inspiration... I would glue the "plexyglass" instead.
Richard, I've the same boat, same year but the three versions cabin. I hope that my wife never find your channel or I'll have a serious problem. Seriously, amazing job!!!!
What are the actual benefits of having a glasfiber sprayhood/Dodger?
Bravo super boulot je suis en train de réfléchir pour faire une casquette en nidaplast pour mon bateau hors bord pour après mettre un panneau solaire dessus je m.abonne 👍🍻JP du Var
Awesome Bro
Brilliant!! Best dodger build ever !!! Looks great too!! Well done sir ! Fair winds⛵️
I am wooden boat ovner , but to your project I have to say , well done !!!!!
Absolutely brilliant! ✨👌😃
It's an amazing well design improvement, and accomplishment! Thanks for sharing!
Very VERY pretty.
Nice job!
The cost of replacing dodgers is becoming very expensive nowadays , So glad you did the clear fill in at the top & Not silly leaving the pipe work in now clears around the sides & aft & youv got the best cabin in the bay . Well done .
Thanks 👍 having the cockpit usable in any weather will be fantastic
Fascinating to see the systems responsiveness to changes in energy into the system. I'm inspired by the professional installation too. Do you have an electrical engineering background?

@SalingRebelStar nice project and video! Well executed! After completion, do you feel you needed to keep the stainless tubes? Also, do you have an idea of the total weight vs the standard sunbrella?
still need to keep the tubes as they add alot of bracing and i can stand where the tubes are to get at the end of the boom. total increase in weight = 25 kg
@@SailingRebelStarthank you!!
@
I had a 35’sailboat with the same kind of dodger , the dodger you made is one of the best looking I have seen in years ! It looks beautiful fits the boat perfectly, most DIY dodgers are square or look like some types of growth ! The only thing I would have changed was to make it a bit longer into the cockpit for more weather protection! Your a Genius !
Since the furling lines are led aft through fairleads, the furling unit has to stay above decks. When at sea if you want to lower the spinnaker the sailbag would stay lashed on deck, and you release the tack of the sail from the furling unit to stow it below?
the endless furling line can be removed from the furler. All that would remain on deck is the furling line.
Really nice project and narrative. Keep these videos coming.
Thanks, More to come!
So you used the sunbrella for a pattern then used 1708 biaxel glass?
With the sunbrella in position I laid the plastic sheet over the bimini and marked the top panel, then laid another plastic sheet around the front window panel and marked the deck edge and top corner.
in metric the main laminate was 2x 800 Biaxile plus extra laminate around the window cutouts, deck edge and over the stainless tubes.
Nice upgrade. Did you consider the added forces perpendicular to the bow? Both the anchor and genaker will add a bit. Anyway I trust you know so it's just a thought from the top of my head. The added roller in the anchor locker seems like a winner.
I considered all the forces. I can jump up and down on the bowsprit and there is no movement. The bob stay is good at transferring the vertical loads.
@@SailingRebelStar I was thinking about the horizontal momentum (forces) you get in the bow connection. I should have specified that. Anyway, after a hard test run you can check for movement in that area. Wish you and your team happy days on the water.
Thanks for sharing. It's exciting and inspiring to follow along in the boat modifications. Cheers.
Writing things like 1800 watts during 10 hours means 180 watts/h says a lot about the skills of the author. Maybe you should think about the meaning of the unit “watt”. Please make a video in which you explain what watt per hour means to you. To be honest: Wh makes sense W/h is complete nonsense.
Couple of small flexible solar panels could go on there.
This channel deserves a lot more views 😊
Thanks, looks like our views are growing everyday
Excelente trabajo. Aunque yo pintaría toda esa tornilleria de blanco para que pasara desapercibida. El trabajo ha sido magistral.
Thanks Gracias, mi esposa me ha pedido que haga precisamente eso.
Thanks, my wife would like to see the bolts painted white.
Beautiful work! Congrats!!
wow awesome job looks fantastic
Very inspiring content
Awesome
A really well made start on a channel. I got bing-trapped last night.😂 Please put some cruising episodes from the Hong-Kong, Macau and mainland China (if possible?) area on your "ToDo" list when the boat is ready. Best of luck with the project and cruising in the years to come. Regards from Norway ✋
On it!. sailing is on my to do list.. its coming
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
It’s a total interior renovation! Great job! Lame title…
lol . yep
Absolutely magnificent congratulations it’s beautiful that’s what I’ve been looking for
Richard, I swear that watching this video left some grinding dust and bottom paint on my clothes. Boat yards are tough duty. The results are worthy of much celebration, it appears. Congrats!
Mate i have a Bavaria 33 and always wondered if the rudder post keyway came out to allow removal past the lip seal. I really appreciate you sharing this video as i learnt so much. If you ever make it down to Fremantle feel free to make me a hard dodger ❤😊
Glad you found the videos interesting and came away with having learnt something. We are setting this boat up to travel the world...
I wouldn't go teaching people how to add heavy structure that high above the waterline. If I add a dodger, it will go together with a sewing machine and pinking shears.
Fibreglass is light and strong, most of the weight is across the centreline and fairly low on a keel yacht. Can't see it having any significant detrimental effect.
@@mattwright2964 You're the skipper
@@mattwright2964you are correct Matt. Stanley, at best, is an ignorant naive trolling twit.
Fiberglass boat builder her in Iceland told my to do new sprayhood exatly as you did it, excellent job on that project!
Nice idea. Looks good. Could do with a lot less chat and more action (maybe 4xspeed) of you on the tools. More detail on cutting windows and marking them out. Thanks .
super
Nice work!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent project, makes our efforts at cleaning up an old dodger look tame.
Richard, you clearly have a broad sweep of skills....but I'm thinking the two major ones are fortitude and patience. Congrats on a huge amount of work, well accomplished. Looking at your wish list, it's pretty clear Rebel Star will be the POSH boat in the anchorage once you shove off. And if you don't mind a Q, I think you mentioned in the dodger video you were currently based in Hong Kong. Thru-out this video, I keep wondering how easy/hard it is there to source marine materials & hardware for all these ambitious projects you have tackled.
Excellent job, many thanks. I've been wanting to do this to my Pearson, now I might just go for it!
Go for it!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great job!
