I'm pretty thrilled about GR developing a Valiant rpg. The Catalyst version was cool.
I don't know how I got here. But I wish you the very best for your new year!
I am looking for a super game. I really love the sweetspot between rules light and medium crunch. I do a lot of one shots. Conventions. Events. With age groups rangeing from 14 to 60. Do you have any recommendations for that kind of play?
I definitely recommend Tiny Supers then! Super easy to run for one-shots.
Why has it taken so long for Empire models to be released?
I know. As the iconic force of WHF, it's wild it's taken them so long.
@@DiceMonkeyGamesI hopeful they're just updating a few models. But every time I try to find info on whats taking so long, no one knows
sorry to say this but that cannon shot turn 1 shouldnt have happened they cant see over infantry unless on a hill and have height....
You’re right! I talked to by buddy the dwarf player about this so we remember it next time.
Amazing bat rep, i enjoy these shorter ones :) much more palletable
I literally just subscribed because of this video! I love Mordheim and can’t wait to watch this series.
Can we please get teleporter technology up and running please?!?!?!
@@jimmymiller1313 *fires up matter transporter*
Great narrative and game. Love your painted minis
Thank you for your battle report. Nicely painted miniatures. Bretonnians are my favorite. I have an army that I built and painted 30+ years ago. Dwarves are a very hard army to beat based on my experience over the years. Keep up the good work!
They're a TOUGH army. Very durable. We have a new game tomorrow, and we'll be doing a new Battle Report.
Love war hammer but i hate those movement trays so much when you have a good board and you start loosing models 😂
😊
Love the look of an Empire army! Cool!
Thank you!
Cool bat rep, and beautifully painted armies! I'm also loving OW and find it refreshing coming from 40K
@@totalwar69 my friend and I, as we were playing the game, we’re watching a 40k game get set up next to us, and it filled us with dread with all the big objective zones, and rigid rules for terrain.
I love it, I read about this a while ago and it's just a great way to focus instead of just amassing a pile of shame from various armies not finishing any of them. Thanks for sharing
I certainly agree with the ideas around sportsmanship and theme. However having a single list and never varying it? Not for me. Where is the joy in experimentation and exploration? I'd consider the huge variety available in the game one of its strengths. Seeing how different combinations work both in terms of unit selections, army composition etc is one of the joys of the game. If someone else wants to play the same list irrespective of what they have learnt battle to battle, well that's their choice, but for me that feels like a lost opportunity to do more of what you get enjoyment from.
Amazing narrative battle report, really enjoyed it. Looking forward to more of such content! ^^
Awesome narrative stories!
I love it. I do wish more people played Old World this way!
Same!
Nice looking army, armies. And thanks for sharing the first game. Not played since 6th Ed, which i played from start to finish and thouroughly enjoyed.. Hope to get some enjoyment like that again..
Nice to see some fun narrative and background.. I am honestly a bit sick of the min-maxed arseholery and duplicated "good units" times many. the CONSTANT just "competetive" tournamnet play.. This is much more interesting and FUN!
Thanks! The two of us are both really big on narrative, so we try to incorporate it into every game.
@@DiceMonkeyGames Yeah it is fun! i much more enjoy that! Doesn´t have to be much really.. I name my characters and bosses and then play a game.. Might roll.. But then depending on what happens, chose the next instead.. Laugh at the silly stuff.. :D Sounds like a nice plan, good initiative to get stuff to be able to play at home.. Close to the beer or coffee.. ;)
I am with you completely here. Luckily my group, though competitive, tries to play with care to the opponent in terms of meta and spam. I used to play tournaments, and did well, but found them stressful. I so prefer cool narrative and character story, to the point I will nerf my army lol
9:50, cannon cannot shoot over his own units. You need line of sight bro.
@@resnov1 Good to know! Thanks! I’ll keep that in mind for the next game, especially as I’m building my cannon-heavy Nuln army.
Colorado Springs by chance?
This was at Gamer's Haven in Spokane, WA. Though I love the Gamer's Haven in Colorado Springs!
😊
Glad you had fun, can't wait for the next one!
Nice overview, mate! Thanks!! 😊👍
Some games go like this. Good Batrep, I hope to see more
Nice one. Hope to see more Old world battle reps.
Virtual play can be a win for more than just mobility accessibility! I suffer too with keeping up with the game when there is background noise or visuals. Being able to have CC has been a life saver!
Absolutely, yeah! Virtual helps keep the noise level down. And if everyone's getting too noisy, you can turn down your own volume!
👍👍
How badly did those wild riders flub their turn 1 charge? They should have decimated those knights on the turn 1 charge. Crazy old world. Love it though!!
They made their charge, but I got countercharge on it.
@@DiceMonkeyGames they would still have higher initiative, and wipe out most of the Bret knights, before they attack
@@shagmetz Just str 4 AP2 with AB 1 on the charge. Knights can easily survive that with the lady save and regular armor.
@@skeith1543 Not trying to be a rules Nazi or anything but they are Str 5 on the charge with +1 attack for frenzy and +1 for furious charge. So a unit of 5 would be 16 attack with a champion. Hitting on 3s and wounding on 2s. That's alot of saves . I'm just trying to figure out for my own WE army, what not to charge into with them
@@shagmetz str 5? Well that just makes the knights harder to kill. Hitting on 3s, wounding on 2s still need to get past a 5+as (maybe a few 6s) and a 5+ ward save. Even with 16 attacks, you'll lose a good chunk to misses. Assuming you land every wound after that, you still need to get past 5+ armor and 5+ ward. I've seen it happen before, that what should have wiped a knight unit ends up barely hurting them. Chosen knights of Khorne to be specific. It's the lady save in particular that usually ruins the attack plan. Brettonian knights is one of the few units in the game that retains a 5+ ward save. Most everyone else has a 6+ if they have a ward at all, with some of them losing even that to magical attacks, like my poor Phoenix guard. Even regen was reduced to a 5+ in most cases, assuminf fire doesn't knock it out.
I've never played Star Wars but I liked WEG old-canon books, I think the system fit really well that retrofuturistic vibes of the original trilogy. I haven't played FFSW, I like the narrative dice but I want to have the chance to play a distinct group of pilots, jedi, rebels and droids together without having to buy three different games. I feel like restricting the games to "this game is only about rebels" or "this game is only about jedis" is a missed oportunity for fans of the original trilogy.
There really isn't a bad Star Wars system out there. It just depends on how you prefer the game to go.
Absolutely. Each brings a different flavor, but all of them are great.
I have personally been playing the Marvel Multiverse RPG a lot recently, and I think its a pretty great competent system. Nothing special necessarily, but it does exactly what it sets out to do, and fairly well.
I probably should have spent more time talking about this one, since it’s the current most prominent one.
Hi. A few corrections from autistic fan of heroic RPGs :) - The game you've shown at the beginning, DC Heroes is NOT using D6 mechanics, but very old and very crunchy MEGS rules. - Both Marvel and DC RPGs had a lot of incarnations because of licensing. You've even mentioned one of them, also out-of-print Cortex version of Marvel. - Original Marvel RPG, done by the famous TSR (the same TSR as D&D makers) used mechanics called FASERIP by fans (from first letters of abilities used) and the mechanics is still alive even if the Marvel game is dead. Astonishing Superheroes you've mentioned is a FASERIP game. Sadly, its development stopped in eternal beta, but the ideas are used in another FASERIP game called "Heroic" which I highly recommend. - Besides FASERIP and CORTEX versions of Marvel there were also diceless game (almost unknown) and the newest Marvel Multiverse game which uses 3d6, and it's pretty cool. It is also officially a Marvel product so maybe it won't die as soon as previous editions. - Cortex system is also published as a standalone, no-trademark game toolkit, so everyone can build a heroic game using old Marvel-like or Smallville-like rules but without licensed property. - If we are into generic systems, HERO is very heavy, so the better choices could be GURPS (with Powers module), or even better, Savage Worlds (with Superhero companion). There is also BESM system (more anime-oriented but also with superheroic variant called Absolute Power). For narrative game fans there are also superheroic variants of Fate (like Venture City) and Cortex. And for fans of GUMSHOE there is Mutant City Blues, if you like old Batman stories more than current Cinematic Universes.
Thanks for the corrections! I appreciate it. I should look more into the DC Heroes rules.
@@DiceMonkeyGames good luck with finding it, it's pretty rare and unlike FASERIP, Cortex or even D6 it didn't get retro-clones or generic versions. And MEGS was used only in one other game, also out of print (and not in DTRPG)
One system I really like is Mighty Protectors, from Monkey House Games. It's a revised & updated version of the old "Villains & Vigilantes" game from the '80s. It's a d20 system, and has options for both random character creation and point buy. I wouldn't call it "rules light", but it's not as crunchy as something like Champions. Definitely worth a look.
I'll check it out!
Thanks for making this video! I'm a big Superhero/comic fan always looking for newer Superhero ttrpgs. As of right now I consider Sentinels Comics as my favorite because I love how the game handles Henchmen(it's it own system) and the the Dice system allows every skill to be used for any circumstance as long as the player can justify it. A player wants to hack a computer to get info? Their Hacking skill is only a d6 and their Green dice is only 6d but they have a d12 in telekinesis. Player say that while they are hacking they use their Telekinesis to quickly hit the extra keys they need while typing with their also using their fingers. Using their brain in more ways than one to hack. They now can use the d12/d6/d6 dice pool. I've heard of Spectaculars, but my RPG crew plays completely online now. I don't know how well a Big Box game like that translates Online. Big box games tend to have a lot of Deck of cards and things that make it harder to play online. Would llove to try it
I'm just getting into Superhero RPGs myself - I had heard good things about AMP. What's your opinion on that one?
I hadn't heard of that one! I'm looking at it now, and it looks really cool!
@@GenerusCrow Oh, I forgot about AMP. It has very interesting world building but the 2 abilities+D20 mechanics is somehow bland for me. And much like Mutants & Masterminds but with power trees. If you want specific franchise instead of generic heroic RPG, the Aberrant game (the new one, not the original) from Trinity Continuum series is very cool and competent (even if very Iron Age or even anti-heroic) system and has some storyline similarities to AMP (TEG is a studio which don't even pretend they're not massive White Wolf simps). But avoid original White Wolf edition of the game, that was mechanical mess, almost unplayable and a pain even at character creation.
prowlers better
There’s also Essence20: Power Rangers, GI Joe, and Transformers (and My Little Pony, but that’s not relevant to this discussion). Arguably not the best for playing a generic superhero, but definitely easily reskinnable. I haven’t tried building, say, Green Lantern with the system, but I bet I could. I’m already thinking of some ways now that I’ve said it.
I need to check that system out more. It seems really cool!
@@DiceMonkeyGames It definitely has its issues (for one thing, the editing on the books seem nonexistent at times), but there’s a lot of really cool stuff across the different franchises
Just play 5e. They are all superheroes.
lol delusional
Oh man. You didnt even touch Paladium, lol.
And I never will!
Yeah, he has good taste
SUPER HERO!!!!! We are about to play a short shot of champions and we played a short run of Masks last year
I need to run a game of Marvel Heroic for you sometime!
It's been a long time, but I'd love to revisit this game.
Same! We should look at setting up a regular game.
Critical Role are the McDonald's of RPGs and you are a simping fanboy who should close your anemic channel down.
I tried to watch their Session 0 and One-Shot and I felt the game needs streamlined. They are trying to be different from D&D but similar at the same time and it doesn't work. Also I HATE that the Cleric/Paladin is called a Seraph, the Seraph should be an Ancestry. A foil to the Daemon. They can rename the Cleric to Acolyte or Priest. I like the system of using cards and I would recommend if the plan is to use cards for information then the Character sheet should be one page, keep it simplified.
Normal game, yes. Like he said, adapting is easy and can even be a fun challenge. One shot, no. I can't change a whole game night because someone took good old "Sentinel, Polearm Master" for a level 5 one shot.
as a long time gm i respect adaptation but rules are often important without them the game becomes swiftly broken and railroaded.
I'm pretty new to GM'ing so take this with a teaspoon of salt. Yes. Within certain bounds, I don't care WHAT you play so long as you're having a good time. (And aren't messing with other players fun.)
I would always rather let my players feel cool than ban things, whether that be races, classes, spells, or combos
I start games at level 3 and they get a free feat
