Flosstube: Handsewn Cross Stitch Pillow Tutorial
Melissa, thank you for sharing your review and experience flipping through these books. There are some great pieces in each book you showed today!
It was fun to flip through the books! Thank you so much for watching!!
Hello. I enjoyed this fun video. My local library has some cross stitch books. I currently have borrowed the Max Pigeon book, Storyland cross stitch by Sophie Simpson and Jayne Netley Mahew's Animal collection. Storyland is amazing and the author/designer describes patterns in a wonderfully wry manner. Theses books also carry the patterns across the pages. I will copy them, cut and tape the pages together.
That’s a great idea about taping the pages. I have to look for Storyland. Thanks so much for the recommendation! And thank you so much for watching!!
I’m watching this and I’m…actually stitching! Haha. Some great tips for sure.
Yay for stitching! Were you working on something spooky? Thanks so much for watching!!
I love stitching in a small hoop. I'd rather move the hoop around than be uncomfortable while stitching.
I agree with you! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment and for watching!
Good advice
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you found something helpful. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and for watching!
❤ Great tips especially for me about mystery SALS and designer mystery retreat projects. Also about gifts for a particular date.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you found some helpful tips. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment and watch. It means so much to me.
Hi Stitching Lis :) There are so many ways to enjoy cross stitching. Thank you for sharing all these great tips ! Maybe more creative folk will pick up needle and thread and give it a try ! I wonder if people thought of their craft supplies the same way as all those unused jars, canned goods and out of date herbs and spices on the shelf . Would they feel different about that project that has been waiting as well to see the light of day ? Just like Michael McIntyre My name is Five Spice ! ruclips.net/video/OnQTDO8lL8I/видео.html
You brought up such good points! I do wonder if there are more sentimental feelings attached to crafts projects and supplies. Thank you so much for sharing the video clip. I love clean stand up comedy. Thank you so much for your comment and for watching!!
Hi Stitching Lis :) I watched this review last week. Then a few days later I was thinking " Where did I see that great quote about too many people ?" . Looked and looked and here it is ! " Stay home it's too peopley out there ! " Perfect for me ! Then I went and googled. There it is in abundance ! Now I know ! Thank you for sharing this on your channel :)
So happy you found it! I liked that one too. It was fun to stitch. I hope you enjoy it!
Great advice as usual. Really like all your tips and I completely agree!🧵
Thank you so much!! I’m so glad some of the tips hit home with you as well. Thank you so much for watching!!
Hi there! I'm new to your channel. You are so right. I always say comparison is the thief of joy! I just started making FT videos, and after the first couple, I told my spouse how bummed I was because I couldn't even get to 1,000 subscribers. Then I said, "Becky, first of all, you're way too old to care what others think🥰. Second, I'm making videos because I want to document my crafting journey for myself, my kids, and my grands! And because I love sharing with others. My spouse had to remind me to just keep doing it because I love it. I was hurt at first that some of these "big Flosstubers" were giving shout-outs to new FTers but not me. Lol. Silly! Must be after cancer emotions lol. We laughed, and I said, "Becky, stop! Who cares?" You're deciding to document your crafty makes, sewing, quilting, and stitching for yourself, which is huge because you beat breast cancer last year. Whoever loves your videos, great! You won't be everyone's cup of tea. So, I guess with my long message, I want to say thank you for this reminder to this old woman flosstuber and crafter. I'm glad I found your channel! Happy Stitching! I
Hi Becky Crafty Mama, well done for posting and leaving this reply :) Good for you to keep on cross stitching ! You're looking great for beating breast cancer last year! I just checked out your Floss tube # 1. It is hard to get the momentum going . I had breast cancer and finished chemo June 2022. I love cross stitching ! Stitching Lis is a great inspiration to me as well. With kind regards, Joanne
Hi Becky! First of all thank you so much for watching and leaving this comment. You are so wise. I love your quote that comparison is the thief of joy. I think you definitely have to do Flosstube because you enjoy it. Because RUclips is unpredictable. I will definitely be subscribing to your channel. I am so happy for you that you beat cancer. It must have taken so much strength and courage to get through that. That’s what counts about you. Not your RUclips statistics. Thank you so much for being here.
Yes! Thank you so much💞
Another great, inspiring video. Thank you so much for being part of this community! Sparkle n Shine ✨ Julie
Thank you so much!! Your support and kindness means so much to me. Wish we didn’t live in different countries so we could stitch together.
Your positivity and empathy is so infectious Lis! These are great reminders ❤
Thank you so much!! These kind words mean so much to me. Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment and for watching!!
You are right about these tips. I see stitchers put themselves in stressful situations because of arbitrary rules and challenges. It should be fun. Cross stitching is my meditation, so I honor that and stitch what and where feels right. Thank you for the video.
Thank you so much! I can relate to cross stitch being your meditation. I especially find that with my temperature chart. Thank you so much for watching!!
❤❤❤
Thank you so much for watching!!
My favorite color is seafoam green. Love all the charts!
Thank you so much for watching!! I’m so glad you like green!
Hi Stitching Lis :) Thanks for this review ! I was searching for Nurge hoop review and here I am :) There are a few look alike types out there but the nurge seems to be the one that promotes its " groves that hold fabric better" system. The others focus on the screw . Great video !
Thank you so much! I’m so glad there was something helpful for you here. I have really enjoyed my Nurge hoop the more I use it. I hope you like it too. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and thank you for watching!!
@@stitchinglis Great to hear/read you are still enjoying these Nurge hoops one year later :)
Good advice! Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. It means so much to me! Thank you so much for watching!
I have several of those hoops with the scew tightened. I like the ones with the ones that have a squeezable release. The ones with the screens loosen too quickly impo. Good needles are essential. I love needlepoint point, Temari Balls. And embroidery more than cross stitch. Do you use six strands of three? In needle pint we use 3 strands. I have all of my embroidery thread organized. It helps a lot. Using our stash is imperative. I don't understand what you are saying about monthly. What? Styles? The entire practice is healing our souls. I agree 100% with going with your soul's desire!!!
Temari Balls are beautiful! So great that you enjoy embroidery. Glad you have methods that work well for you. Thank you so much for watching!!
There is much wisdom in your tips. Thank you.
Thank you so much!! Your comment means so much to me. Thank you so much for watching!!
I love all of your marketplace haul. Do you like the colour green? If so, which shade is your favourite? Sparkle n Shine ✨️ Julie
Thank you so much, although I think I may have gone overboard. My favorite shade of green is clover. Thank you so much for watching!!
The Cittlewick Green sampler is gorgeous, and your kitty is so sweet. I love your temperature stitch.
Thank you so much about my cat! He is such a good boy. I’m so glad you like the sampler. Thank you so much for watching!!
How did you attach your piece to the cutting board? Glue? I love all shades of green.
Thanks so much for watching! I used double-sided fabric tape. It works so well for me. If you want a link to exactly what I buy, just let me know. Glad you like green!
@@stitchinglis Thanks. I’ve used double-sided tape. Your FFO was so smooth on the wood, it made me wonder.
Green is my favorite color. Those Joan Elliott charts are so pretty.
Thanks so much for watching! Joan Elliot is so versatile and her designs are so pretty. Glad you like green!
I really like the summer splendor chart. I hadn't seen that one before. One thing I love about summer is all of the green trees and grass. But I am looking forward to the leaves changing soon. So pretty.
Thank you so much for watching! Petal Pusher is a really underrated designer. She did Summer Splendor. I’m glad you like green but know what you mean about the beautiful fall colors.
Absolutely love your haul! We are enjoying the trees Chang from GREEN to beautiful fall colors here in Colorado.
Thank you so much! I may have gone a bit overboard with my shopping. It’s so funny because when I think of Colorado I think of mountains not trees. I’m glad you get to see the colors change but glad you like green too!
Your cat is adorable..glad he is feeling better. I think I will have to get that issue of crosstitcher mag. I love joan elliot patterns. Green is my favorite color.
Thank you so much about my cat! I am biased but think he’s the handsomest cat anywhere 😂. The magazine is World of Cross Stitching in case you look for it. I’m glad you like green!
I appreciate your insight to stitching. It gave me something to think about with my stitching. I used to your think a needle is a needle but that’s not true. I’ve found some to shred my floss! I will try the brand you like. I think any hobby should be enjoyable! I really liked your tips!❤
Thank you so much for your kind words! They mean so much! I hope you like the Piecemakers if you try them. Thank you so much for watching!!
Another fantastic episode 😊 I agree with everything you mentioned, and while listening, I was able to reflect and be grateful of the opertunity this community has given to me and all those who enjoy the craft ❤ Sparkle n Shine ✨️ Julie
Thank you so much!! I’m so glad that you resonated with some of my thoughts. I’m so grateful to have people like you in our community. Thanks so much for watching!!
Hi Lis, thanks for the video! You've inspired me to figure out what *I* like in stitching and not worry if others do it differently. I also stitch using this size of Nurge hoop and I keep my floss on floss drops or Pako organizers, and this setup seems to work just fine for me, yet I keep having doubts that maybe I need to do something differently and it will work even better. Thanks for the reminder that there's no need to have it all perfect!
Thank you so much! I know what you mean about questioning if you could or should do something differently. It can feel like a lot of pressure. But I’m glad you have a system that works for you and you enjoy. Your comment means so much to me. Thank you so much for watching!!
Looks great ! Thanks for the ideas ! I purchased DMC Diamant metalic spools in different colours. What a treat ! This gave me an idea. How about storing them in a crystal bonbon dish, one of those with the lid? So I went looking and found a plastic version of a crystal bon bon dish ! They look glittery and are fun to look at :)
I love the idea of the bon bon dish! That must look beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this with me and thank you so much for watching!!
I’ve started listening to audiobooks rather than “watching” things because it lets more of me become part of the rhythm of my stitching. And the community of stitching with a friend or two makes things better in a different way!
That’s such a good point about audiobooks letting you engage more in your actual stitching. And I definitely agree that stitching with another person or group elevates it in a whole other way. I can’t wait for you to go to Stitch Con and see what 300 people in the room feels like!
I completely agree with all your points again. Cross stitch always brings me peace and comfort❤️
Thank you so much! I’m so glad that cross stitch brings you peace and comfort. It is amazing how simple things- needle, thread and fabric can really make us feel better. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. It means so much!
Well stated. This art is an amazing medium, drawing together people from all ages and walks of life. It has brought me incredible healing. Maybe I can explain more later. Hurricane Helene destroyed our electical grid so we have no power. I do not type well on my phone.
Oh my goodness!! I hope you’re safe and that power gets restored soon from the Hurricane. This was a really bad one. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment through all that!! I like how you call cross stitch an art. That’s so beautiful! Please take good care!
I just discovered your flosstube last week! You have a sense of calmness, and I really enjoy listening to you. Your explanation of cross stitch is wonderful, too. I have always referred to my stitching time as my therapy. It has helped me through a lot of anxiety and some depression and it's something I really, really enjoy doing.
I’m so happy you found my videos and decided to watch! Thank you so much for your kind words! They mean a lot. I think the way you describe cross stitching as your therapy is so accurate! It’s amazing how much it helps to take out a project and stitch. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment!!
You are truly an inspiration…if I didn’t already cross stitch your videos would make me want to try. I lost my dad in a car accident less than 2 years ago and stitching has helped me to cope with the grief. Thanks for your videos❤️
I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. My heart goes out to you. I am so glad your stitching brings you comfort and has helped you. Your words about my video are so kind. It means so very much to me. Thank you so much for your comment and for watching.
Thanks for you transparency about your journey. And you're right, do what makes you happy!
Thank you so much for this kind comment! I hope you enjoy your stitching! Thank you so much for watching!
I recently got back into cross stitch after many years of not stitching and I'm enjoying it SO much. These are all great tips and I will keep all of them in mind as I continue in this hobby, so I don't get burned out. Thank you for sharing them!
Yay for a returning stitcher!! So glad you’re enjoying it again! Thank you so much for watching!!
I liked the video from the beginning but started to love it when you mentioned kitting up from stash! Of course everyone can make their own decisions but I myself try to keep my stash as minimal as possible because hoarding a million flosses is impractical and also a waste of money to me. And therefore I sometimes have a hard time enjoying videos where people have huge floss storages because it's not how I roll. Thanks for sharing that opinion, keep the work up 🥰
Thank you so much! I understand not wanting to have a big inventory to manage. We each do what works best for us, right? Thank you so much for watching!!
Hi, Lis What an =excellent= video! Thank you very much. 💐
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the time you took to leave this kind comment! Thank you so much for watching!
Great tips. Will be looking for Nurge hoops and Piecemaker Needles. Worth a try 😊. Thank you.
Thank you so much!! I hope you like the hoops and needles! Thank you so much for watching!!
I love how you explain things. You are very clear and concise ! Loved your floss tube!❤❤❤
Thank you so much! These kind words mean so much to me! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your comment and for watching!!
I use the wooden Nurge hoops. I have sizes 1, 2, and 3. No. 2 is my favorite since it is about 5".
That’s about my favorite size too! But I only have the plastic hoops. I should try the wooden ones. Thanks so much for watching!!
So much fun, Melissa! You're so good at trying out new ways of stitching!!
Thank you so much, Olivia! It has been really fun to try new things. Thank you so much for watching!!
New viewer and subscriber here! Just for funsies-the hoop you loved from Michaels, is the exact same as the store brand (Artiste) of hoops from Hobby Lobby! They are wonderful, I love them!
That’s such a great tip! Thank you so much! I really appreciate your subscription and your watching!!
I enjoyed this video and seeing your stitching. I love the look of the Prairie linen! If I won, I'd be stitching like a Flosstuber aka you 😅
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you watched! I hope you’re doing well!!
Priàre
I actually just bought my first Nurge in the same color. I need to check out other needles. I tend to just get mine from Michaels. Thanks for all the tips!
I hope you like your Nurge hoop! Needles made a difference for me but that’s not the same for everyone. Thank you so much for watching!!
@@stitchinglis I am using it on a full cover at the moment and loving it so far. 💕
@@StitchingSistersinChrist That's amazing! You're so brave to do a full coverage piece. I'm so glad you're loving your Nurge hoop!
I like poofy stitches too. 😃 Great start on this project. ❤
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you relate to poofy stitches!! I hope you’re doing well and have a great week!!
Hi Lis, thanks for your great floss tube episode. So well thought out and really made me think! I agree with your points - particularly about the SALs.
Thank you so much!! I’m so glad you resonated with some of my thoughts. I know everyone has a different experience. Thank you so much for watching!!
Great Video - When picking colors, you say it has to be close, when in reality it doesn't. Make it yours, if you are using stash and you don't have a color that closely matches, use another color you like that will work. Colorado Stitcher Sherrie always changes or adds color to a project, and they look amazing. Again, this is a hobby, do you and what makes you happy. You don't have to please anyone but you. So glad you are feeling better about stitching. I get it I have moments where it isn't fun anymore. It is usually when I feel like I have to do what others think, when I get that out of my head, I feel so much better. Also, I too have stopped SALs, it feels like a competition in my mind, If we all got together and stitched it, then it may be fun but other than that I don't see the point of them anymore.
Such great points about colors in projects! I’m so grateful you shared. I agree, I don’t like feeling any kind of pressure in my stitching. I really appreciate your comment and thank you for watching!!
