UMTB 24 - Farewell Run
Went for a farewell run a couple of days after my DNF to say goodbye to this amazingly beautiful place. I wish my legs felt like that a couple days earlier. But I have to come back now - no business left unfinished. What a race. What a place. What a great community.

It still feels like a dream. What an amazing race. What an amazing crowd. Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc 2024. While this was my first DNF it was just absolutely amazing. Thank you to all the crowds who cheered us on. Thank you to my wife for supporting this dream.

Ring The Springs 50k in Colorado Springs by Aravaipa Running, finishing at Garden Of The Gods. Friendly and supportive people at the start, at the aid stations and the finish line who genuinely cared and just as awesome runners around. Day was hot with almost zero cloud coverage and zero breeze. The last hill packed a punch. Thanks to the organizers, volunteers and other runners. Loved the comm...

The finish that almost wasn't. Until it wasn't. 1.5 weeks before the race I broke my toe. During the race I barely made the first cutoff with less than 10 mins to spare. I had to chase cutoff times almost throughout the entire race. My right knee gave out 30 km in. Downhill I was slower than uphill and couldn't make up time lost on the ascents. It was an insane mud (and cow sh#t) fest, windy, r...

2023 Catalina Island Half Marathon [Triple Crown]

Headed to Catalina Island for a third time this year to claim the Catalina Island Triple Crown which is awarded to runners completing all three events in a year - the Ultramarathon in January, the Marathon in March and the Half Marathon in November. After running the Catalina Island Marathon every year for a decade, this course brought me to new parts of the island I hadn't seen before. It was ...
2023 Desert Rats by UTMB Ultramarathon - 100k alternative (50k)

My first attempt at the 100km distance in the high desert of West Colorado near Grand Junction - the Desert Rats by UTMB. The race was washed out the day off, so we had the opportunity to run the 50km version of the trail running festival the following day. The race follows the Colorado River, with nice sections along the rim of the canyon.
2023 Catalina Island Ultra Marathon - Avalon 50 Mile Benefit Run - Jan 7 '23

Finally got to edit my first Ultra Marathon on Catalina Island in California just outside of LA. With a 4 am start, about 6000 feet elevation gain, 50 Miles / 80 kilometer of distance and a climate rather different to snowy Colorado, this was not an easy one. But knowing Catalina Island from 10 years of Catalina Island Marathons, I got to enjoy the island for a bit longer this time and during a...
'23 Val d'Aran - Training Run - Còth de Varradós (2050m)

Went up to Còth de Varradós, the third aid station of the CDH at 2050m elevation, a couple of days before the race, to go for a training run at altitude and to check out the area for the 2023 UTMB Val d'Aran CDH. Didn't find the actual trail but still had fun on the dirt road. Amazing! Music: Helmut Schenker - Above the Clouds / courtesy of epidemicsound.com
2023 UTMB Val d'Aran - CDH (110km) Ultra Marathon, Pyrenees, Spain

My (failed) second attempt at a 100 km Ultra Run in the epic Pyrenees Mountains in Spain. I ran the 2023 UTMB Val d'Aran CDH (110km, 6400m elevation gain) until it was cancelled 19.5 hours in at km 96 because of bad weather that completely washed out the trails. What a monumental race this was though! Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers for putting this event together, and for putting t...
Nice run man! Funny to start watching a random video and realize you’re my Strava buddy who I ran the Catalina Marathon with lol
Oh no way - Small world! Hey man! :)
Strong run! I was there for the 50k. What would you change in your training for attempting UTMB a second time?
Thank you! Ultimately probably more dedicated sessions. I think I could have cut back on total time running and do more strength training, hill sprints, intervals etc. And see a PT :D
How did the 50k go?
@@easier-said-than-run as expected, I’ve only been doing this a year and I’m older. Small issue for 5-6 miles that slowed me down but problem solved and got past it. I’m really interested in getting better and I 100% know strength training will do that but for some reason just do the running part. I’m debating occ vs ccc but with my utmb index where it is at I’ll probably do OCC. Chasing cutoffs is no fun.
Nicely done! Also, those T8 Sherpa shorts are amazing! Beautiful trails!
Thanks! I really like the T8 shorts; they're super light weight, moisture wicking and offer some storage
Beautiful trails! I've lived in Colorado for over 9 years and still haven't ran up Pikes Peak. Would love to do an epic long route in the area and tag Pikes Peak along the way. Maybe one of these days soon!
I've heard a lot of peoples undoing is the crowds at the beginning. I think people think they'll be for the first km or so, but they go on for hours. Thankyou for sharing this video, very inspirational!
May I ask what happened? you were looking strong! I'm glad to hear that despite the DNF you enjoyed the race. Best of luck to you, and good work for putting yourself out there and giving your best.
Thanks! It was a mix of a couple of things that made it rough, but the main issue were my quads blew out about 25 miles in. I could barely walk the downhills. Which was surprising as I trained in the mountains, a lot. Other issues (though manageable): barely any sleep / jetlagged going into the race. Heat / Hydration. Nausea. Definitely went out too hard for the first 10k but the crowds were just too amazing 😅
Man I was there and loved it. Thanks for getting good footage to relive it!
What a neat race! Congratulations! I just subscribed too.
HUGE, congrats on your finish! You're correct. It was so hot. I was in the 25K, and the sun wrecked me. Great video!
Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing. subd & 👍7
I was there with you on the day, also stopped at 96k (stops writing and stares into the middle distance) a very hard day but we did it ! New subscriber here 👍
I missed your comment! A very hard day indeed, but one that'll build thick skin!
You did a great job. You really can be proud. I was on the last downhill in the dark and it was a pure hell and felt more like survival than trail running.
To me the last 10 km section into Koppl already felt like that 😂 Congrats on the finish!
Hey, don't worry about you couldn't do the race until the end. I finished it, but it don't felt like "yeah"! In the end it was so cold and it felt more than a survival trip! The most important thing in that race was that no one get hurt on this day. All the best for Charmonix, Hannes
Congrats on the finish!
You can be really proud!! As someone who also took part in the race (finished in 16h:39), I know how bad the conditions were. Anyone who chose to keep going and refused to quit, did an amazing job!!!
Great job on the finish! Yeah, this one for sure built character 😅
Beautiful video!!! Congratulations!!!
Awesome video Jo!!! Way to go 💪🏼💪🏼
Good stuff mate 🙌 bravo on the finish 👏
Thank you!
Yeeeow this is so awesome. Well done mate getting to the finish line strong 👏
@@onthebass1 Thanks :)
Looks awesome! I’m doing this race this year! Super excited. Hoping I get good weather!!!
It's an absolutely amazing trail and scenery. Have fun and fingers crossed for good weather!
Looks awesome! Just signed up for 2025!
@@CyclingGooner The scenery was incredible! Weather wasn't great. too hot in the day so i DNF'd at about 60km. I should have a video about it soming out soon though!
This was so cool! Thank you for sharing
Amazing footage. Thanks for capturing everything.
Thanks! Just watched your video - congrats on first place and the KOMs! Insane pace! Good luck on your chase :)
