Vanlife Outfitters started as a blog that detailed Zach’s journey building DIY camper vans with RAM Promaster vans back in 2016. Now we have a store full of carefully curated, road-tested products for other both DIY and professional builders. We also pride ourselves in the best customer service and tech support in the industry that you can count on during your build process.
VAN TOUR: How To Build A Camper Van In A Week!?!
In this video, Piotr from Rover Vans shows us a really clean build that features some of their new and innovative products at COVE 2024. Some of the highlights of this van are a prefab interior kit, a murphy bed system (see link below), a drop in galley, upper cabinets, Victron Electrical System (see below) and a double seat that converts into a second bed. It seems to us like this entire van could be put together in less than a week!

In this video we ran some completely outrageous and absurd tests to find out...once and for all...which is better...Thinsulate or Wool. This one is mostly for fun. You won't get much actual information in this video because it's purely for entertainment purposes...and it's entertaining for sure. In this video we enlisted a third-party testing lab to find out...once and for all...which is better...Thinsulate or Wool. Van insulation is a pretty hot topic and everyone seems to have an opinion on what is best to insulate their camper van. Well, we wanted to eliminate any bias or opinion and take a more scientific approach. We had the lab test things like weight, thickness, sound absorption...

Great video, what's the difference in this heater on this video and the stainless version? We had the stainless version in a camper build we sold and loved it, but it is more expensive.
Thanks! The Isotemp Spa models (that we show in the video) have the plastic case and are a little shorter and wider. The Slim models are longer and less wide (more slim) and have the stainless case and are therefore a bit more expensive. They are pretty much the same on the interiors and work the same way. www.vanlifeoutfitters.com/?s=isotemp&post_type=product&dgwt_wcas=1
One question I've had is could I layer thinsulate to create an even more effective thermal barrier? I'm based in Maine, which is currently experiencing anywhere from 10 - 30F on average from Jan-March. I'm wondering how effective a single layer of thinsulate is in those conditions. I don't want my heater to be running 24/7 just to barely maintain 50F in the van, so would layering be worthwhile to improve efficacy of heat, and if so, how could I go about that? I know about 3M 90 spray adhesive, but could I simply spray glue and put on a second layer, or is there more involved than that?
Yes you could double the layers but you want to make sure they are expanded and not "smooshed" together inside the wall. So you might need to fir the wall a little out depending on what van you have. Thinsulate works well when it's expanded to it's full potential. I would glue the outer layer to the van skin and the inner layer to your interior wall.
@josh.theberge thanks for the advice! I'll keep that in mind as the project progresses. I'm still in the planning phase, but currently shopping for a van base.
@@rc_player Exciting! Let me know if you need anything else. Vanlife Outfitters has the best products, the best service and the best prices. They usually ship in 24 hours. But don't take my word for it, they have over 120 reviews and they're all 5 stars!
Wool does not off gas like synthetics. Off gassing can negatively harm your health.
Thinsulate does not off gas at all. Wool is treated with Boric Acid and attracts insects if you're concerned about your health.
How about a video detailing the alternator installation on the engine.
Hey there, we did make a video that covers this a bit on a Promaster. ruclips.net/video/2tZdGV-MEQk/видео.html
Do the 50 and 80 models have 120VAC plugs?
Yes, they all have both 12VDC and 120VAC options and the AC connection is a standard, 15 amp male plug. They will all default to 120VAC mode if both 12V and 120V are connected. Thanks!
well i made it 10 min
ha ha, that's pretty good actually. It's a long one :)
I bought one of those. It failed after a month of use. That was 2 1/2 months ago. I’m still waiting for Aqua Hot to fix it. Worst customer service customer service I’ve ever experienced. Especially for a made in the USA company. The communication is awful. I would not buy from them again. My mistake, don’t let it be yours.
Sorry you've had such a bad experience. I'm going to pass this comment onto our contact at Aqua-Hot to see if they can help you out. Where did you buy the unit?
Let me be clear that this problem is not with Vanlife. Vanlife Outfitters are outstanding. Especially Jason, who has been very helpful. I ordered from Vanlife and they had it shipped the very next day and provided a tracking number. The problem seems to be with Aqua Hot. Once they finally agreed to send a new unit, they said it had to be build. That was 18 days ago. I finally heard from them yesterday via email and they said my part was shipped Dec 12th. 42 days ago. I had to tell them again, that was the wrong part sent and then they shipped 2 more circuit boards that didn’t work. I’m really. Not sure what internal problems they are dealing with, but I have no faith in them anymore. If this is not resolved in another week, I’ll most likely buy a different heater and have to take Aqua Hot to small claims court. Three months should have been more than enough time to have this issue fixed. If you are able to reach out to them, I’d be most grateful. I so hate wasting my time complaining.

so, as iOS only user, is there another solution? Windows?
The latest versions of the WS500 "pro" that we're selling now have the Bluetooth connectivity for configuration and monitoring as the graphic says around 12 minutes in this video. For iOS users who have the older models without Bluetooth we recommend borrowing an Android device or purchasing an inexpensive model.
Nice video! Hard to find info/reviews for this combo furnace/heater. What’s the minimum length the exhaust duct needs to be?
🥰
Fiamma are weak garbage. I got one with my 200k 4x4 sprinter and its just flimsy crap unable to take a mid level wind. Just my 0.2c worth. What i would give to have a darche to fit instead.
True!! 👍👍
Wish I’d known about the altitude limitation before I wasted money on a Webasto. Now I get to spend more money and toss my webasto in the wastebin and replace it with a Velit or Espar.
Thanks for the great explanation. I have a Multiplus 2, all victron batteries, and Solar Charge controllers connected to a BMS v2 and Cerbo Gx. When connected to shore power at night, I'd like to have the 120V pass through but the Multiplus want's to charge the batteries. I'd rather prioritize the battery charging for the next day's PV charging. Would using the DVCC setting for limiting the charge current to 0 amps, stop the Multiplus from charging? Or is there an easy way to have the passthrough power while turning off the Charger? Thanks
@LoveTheLand , Great question. You could set the DVCC allowed charge current to "0", which would eliminate all amps going into the batteries. You would need to raise the DVCC charge current to start charging again. A better solution would be to use the Multiplus 2's "Solar & Wind Priority" feature. You need to turn it on within the Multiplus' latest firmware and configuration, then you will have on/off control via the VictronConnect app, VRM or in on your GX device console. Solar & wind power are used to charge the battery, while the shore power is only used to prevent the battery from becoming too deeply discharged. You can select to charge your batteries to 100% with shore power, then shore power will stop charging until 7 days pass or the batteries reach a low level, then the MP2 will start charging off of shore power again. Passthru remains active throughout the process. Hopefully this helps. You can learn all about it here: www.victronenergy.com/media/pg/Solar_&_Wind_Priority/en/index-en.html
@ Thanks a lot Jason...

Excellent info, thank you for differentiating between them.
Where can you buy this fridge in the EU (France)?
Thats just evil !
I have a crazy question. We have auto level on our Class C, but sometimes, it results in the front tires being off the ground. Could this be used to keep those tires stable? (Usually we have to use leveling blocks to do so.)
What's the weight of your class C?
@@josh.theberge 14,500, but just to stabilize the front tires, not lift. The RV has an auto-level system.
@@robhephner Possibly as long as the full weight isn't on them. Unfortunately I don't think the warranty would be enforcable since you'd technically be using them with a vehicle over weight so there's no way to confirm they were used properly.
@@josh.theberge@josh.theberge Oh yeah, I get that 100%. It would honestly just be a safeguard against rocking.
Haha., you've now become the "son of a bitch" channel. Good luck and Happy Holidays l 👍 Rock on 🙂.

Just say no!! to wool kids!!
is the truck battery involved in its operation? It can drain the battery?
Most of our customers (in camper vans or RVs) are wiring the power supply for the Webasto heater to their "house" batteries. However, you can certainly wire the power supply to your vehicle/truck starter battery. There is a low voltage disconnect feature that will turn the heater off before it completely drains the vehicle battery. If you have the SmarTemp digital controller, you can adjust the specific voltage that will trigger this.
@ thank you so much for your answer!
How cold does the freezer get? Cold enough for ice cream?
Yes, in our testing, even during the very hot Florida summer, the freezer compartment stayed cold enough for ice cream. Having adequate ventilation (as detailed in the manual) is really important to cooling performance.
Dear sir i am missing the password my webasto 3.0 please solw my parobulam
Hi guys good Video Can I ask what the benefits are to run your battery parallel wires all the way to the distributor? Seems like a lot of wire and space taken up in the distributor Is there a difference in this set up compared to a standard battery parallel wire diagrams ?? TIA
Thanks! A few reasons to parallel the batteries at the Lynx Power In (or Lynx Distributor). First, it allows you to have a fuse at each battery-to-system connection so that each circuit is protected. Secondly, it allows you to have the same length of cable between each battery and the system so that there is roughly equal resistance. That helps even out the charge/discharge current so that the batteries stay better balanced. Finally, we just like the "Lynx Train" set up with the Lynx Power In on the left side for battery connections, the Lynx BMS in the middle and then one (or more) Lynx Distributors on the right side. It's a really clean and organized setup with all the terminals protected under the covers of the various Lynx components.
Imagine a bigger Roman candle aimed at you while advancing in a phalanx toward it.
Thanks for the video. Our Jayco came with the AquaHot Gen1 gasoline system. Is it normal to make a "clicking" sound when the furnace is running? I am thinking it could be the pump sending the gasoline to the AquaHot. Not sure.
Yes. The clicking noise it typically the pump. Without actually hearing it I can't confirm, but it's probably the pump.
@@TheBoondocker Thank you for the reply. Taking RV to the dealer this week so I will know more.
I think polyeste the best.
Excellent stuff. Thanks for making these videos and for making the Blog. We all appreciate the good advice. Great website.
Lmao less than 50volt being high voltage. Talk to me when you got over 1000volt… and thats still low voltage lol
You guys are professionals!😊
Space blankets applied with adhesive would repel water and insulate FUN FACT you can hide from infrared with a space blanket
Pls go over all the dvcc settings.
Flamethrowers? Dropping mannequins? Now that's a fun video!!
As someone who has used thinsulate and wool I will say yes thinsulate is better. 3m just makes good product's.. I mean they probably all cause cancer but man do they do the jobs they are made for well. I know welding and fabrication stuff when I need abrasive disc or cut off wheels I use 3m they just work better than others objectively lol long live 3m😅
😂
Hi Sarah, Just looking for a real world opinion on this heater so far, I'm following along & just installed mine & digging it so far. Wondering if you have had any issues ? Thanks Dave
Will they work with dual wheels though?
Sorry, no they don't work with dual wheels... All the details on the product page of our website: www.vanlifeoutfitters.com/store/flat-jack-air-tire-level/
I love you guys and have bought from you. But I have to ask you, why didn't you mention the Espar Airtronic B4L M2 heater which is rated to 9,800' in altitude? It has been around for awhile and it works. Why suggest waiting a year for Webasto to catch up with the technology and why suggest more complicate / costly alternative if all they want is a heater?
Verry instructive video
I‘m so confused. I want to have my mppt‘s controlled through the bms and a cerbo so it can load disconnect the mppts whenthe battery is fully charged or to hot. But in my dvcc settings my mppts says: It is not managed by the bms. Also my multiplus has an alarm which says there is a bms assistent installed but the bms can‘t be found 🫠🫠
What BMS are you using?
