I love the comparison of "the dvd extras" - so true! HBO does some really amazing after-show podcasts. The business case for sure, podcasts are cheaper, but where TV and streaming is struggling is deepening the audience engagement which is what podcasts can do for you. Connecting to the super fan and giving those dvd extras to continue their journey with the franchise and the channel

She seems really nice and very naive. She is about to go through a HARD learning curve. And learn that there are some extremely disturbed and disingenuous people in this world, who have no trepidation whatsoever about taking advantage of lovely people like her 😢

It makes sense but it's so wild to me to see 2014 referred to as "the early days of podcasting". Totally by chance someone sent me a link to one in 2008 and I was pretty deep into the podcast world almost immediately. To me, 2005-2013 is the early days and 2014 onward would be when it went mainstream.

Totally agree here, but this conversation was meant to show the lens of when the media world really began paying attention and adding $$ and resources. If you haven't seen, check out the podcasting section of this report: www.edisonresearch.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/The-Infinite-Dial-2023.pdf Lots of info in here that shows the growth year over year, and you can really see when it began to pick up steam.

I would call 2014 a (the?) second golden age of podcasting, since there was a huge jump in podcasting in 2007.
